Starting the no 'S' eating regime today to lose weight, anyone want to join in?

Hi, have got decidedly porky over the past few years.
I feel tired and lethargic, and none of my clothes look good anymore.
I also need to lose weight for health reasons and increase my (currently woeful) level of exercise.

I want to follow a simple and 'do-able' eating plan that is fairly simple and that I will be able to sustain ie hoping to lose 0.5 kg each week.

I'm planning to follow the no 'S' "diet":

book here

A summary of the basic rules is:

no snacks
no sweets (it's an American book so that covers puddings as well as biscuits and confectionary)
no seconds

except on days that start with 's' ie the weekend, and 'special' days ie birthdays and big holidays such as Christmas.

I've got the book so can answer further questions but that is basically it!

I'm going to be using MFP to log calories and I have also found the free NHS weight loss plan (includes exercise) helpful too

see here

I am planning to post my weight here Blush every Sunday too (but that is not obligatory of course).

The other reason for posting on here is that I don't want to bore my family and friends to death about it in rl!! But it would be nice to have some companions along the way Smile.

Anyone want to join in?

Hi all, Sunday check-in although not much to check-in about ifyswim Blush

The embarrassing truth is that I have now gone back up to nearly the same weight when I started (save for half a kilo). Weighing in today at 85.4 kilos. I am useless at this and hugely embarrassed to be so lacking in control!

I honestly don't know whether to give up and focus on other things or start again and make a concerted effort in April, May and June. I really need to lose weight for health reasons and I absolutely hate the way I look at the moment. So really need to continue. I'm so involved in food and cooking; it is very hard.

I have lost only 2 kilos since we started and have nearly put it all back on again Blush

Grump that is really brilliant that you have lost a stone! Really happy for you! I've never got to that point myself, but I hear it is harder as you have less to lose so you are doing very well not to regain and great that it is still going down slowly!

eltsihT both of those dresses are gorgeous!! (Love your oh's kilt too!!) Congratulations on fitting in to the newest one; you will look super lovely!

How is everyone else doing? (If you post, at least I can gain pleasure from other people's losses if not my own!! Wink)

grumpysquash3 · 13/03/2016 20:44

eltsihT I have just Googled the dress range and not only is everything in the whole range lovely, it has the rare brilliance of being less expensive than it looks :) That literally never happens, normally the opposite. I want to try some on and then buy anything that fits nicely. I live nowhere near a House of Fraser (nearest in London, I am near Cambridge). :(

eltsihT · 20/03/2016 09:37

61.2kg last week 61.1kg today.

Finding it really slow process arm but at least I am still going down.

Hope you are all well.

grumpysquash3 · 20/03/2016 17:46

Hi everyone,
Here is my updated weight chart. The first part is exactly the same as the last one, then the gap in the middle is the Christmas/New Year break (where I didn't weigh myself) and finally the long slow plateau of Feb/March! I still have 3kg to go to target, but I think what I might need to do is have a little break over Easter, then get back on it for April and May...

I've been having the odd piece of chocolate the last few days and also had a shortbread biscuit yesterday as well as a dessert in a restaurant earlier in the week. What is shocking is the level of craving for sweet stuff I get if I eat something sweet in the first place. I'm like a sugar junkie Shock

I will be taking salad for lunch tomorrow......

How are you all?

Starting the no 'S' eating regime today to lose weight, anyone want to join in?
LazyCake · 21/03/2016 07:34

Saw this on active threads, and was intrigued. Is it too late to join? I dropped sugar a few weeks ago but am still munching on loads of crisps and pigging out at mealtimes! Really need to get some structure and regularity into my eating.

Slimmingcrackers · 21/03/2016 09:37

[Oh dear, what does it say about my commitment that I didn't even bother to weigh myself yesterday and failed to post here. Also, this thread had fallen off my "threads I am on" page. Blush Blush Blush

A warm welcome to Lazycake! Of course you can join!

I started this thread back in September and have failed spectacularly at losing any weight.Blush Others though have had great success with it though! And I still have some hope!

I am taking yet another break from dieting over Easter (too many visitors to cook for and we live in the land of chocolate unfortunately ) but going to start again on 1st April and I still like the sensible down-to-earth approach of some of the principles in the no S regime although I will be following a six small meal pattern when I start again.

Good luck with getting in to a more structured routine that suits you!

Grumpy what a fab weight loss chart! You should be really proud of that! You have really persisted and done well [star

And agree - during the brief weeks when I have managed to give up sugar - it has a startling effect when you succumb again, even moderately!

And well done to eltsihT for keeping going in a downwards direction!

Where is everyone else I wonder? (Hope my poor show has not put everyone off Blush)

LazyCake · 21/03/2016 13:00

Thanks, slimming. It's a great idea for a thread.

I have already snacked today - gobbled up DD's leftover toast midmorning instead of binning it - but am determined to be good from now on! Halo

eltsihT · 21/03/2016 17:41

Welcome lazycake! I have found no s'ing very hard but very effective.

I try to have a hot drink when my DC eat their tea so I don't polish off their left overs (I write this while eating a bit of left over cheese on toast)

Having the will power to stop yourself is really hard, and I really need to stop snacking to make sure i still fit into my new dress

LazyCake · 21/03/2016 19:37

Thanks, eltsihT. I'll definitely try the hot drink thing. Both DD (3) and I graze far too much, and don't make as much of our shared mealtimes as we should, so s-ing may benefit her too.

eltsihT · 24/03/2016 08:36

I am 60.8kg today, going to have a bit of a break over Easter and possibly the next little while.

Dh is on a bedside vidual with his mum so I am taking the DC down to my parents tonight for Easter as planned but by myself. My parents have also offered to keep the DC for a bit if dh needs some space but wants me home.

Hope everyone has a lovely Easter

Slimmingcrackers · 24/03/2016 09:52

I am so sorry to hear that things are so difficult eltsihT for your mil, your dh and his family and for you. I do hope that you manage to have a rest at your parents even though the situation is so stressful. It is very painful at any time but I think it is particularly poignant when someone is so gravely ill in the spring somehow. Thanks

You have done v well to get down to 60.8 kg with such stresses going on btw.

trickydickie · 25/03/2016 15:32

I would like to join you all. I often start this and before I know it realise I am snacking. I am 10 and a half stone but should really be about 9 stone. I have to get into a dress in 7 weeks time that is about a size too small for me at the moment. My aim is to lose 9 pound within the 7 weeks and then get down to the 9 stone for my holidays.

Eltish - sorry to hear about your mother in law. Good that your family are so supportive.

Slimmingcrackers · 26/03/2016 13:20

A very warm welcome to trickydickie and good luck with your objectives!

trickydickie · 26/03/2016 22:49

Tanks slimming. Hopefully I will update.

Slimmingcrackers · 31/03/2016 09:51

Just reporting in to say that I intend to start again tomorrow (1st April) and want to make a serious effort to lose weight in the next three months.

Unfortunately, I will be away until 5th but at least I will be separated from my Easter egg during that time Grin

Is anyone else around?

If so, how are you all doing?

proudmom135 · 31/03/2016 13:46

Wow! These "S" to avoid are really helpful in my weight lost. Thanks for these! Grin

SpareCrust · 31/03/2016 14:29

Welcome Proudmom135!

SpareCrust · 06/04/2016 15:14

Another "oh dear" situation to report. Combo of hosting/entertaining/travelling all revolving around food [wrings hands in despair]. Another complete fail this week Blush

Anyone else around?

eltsihT · 06/04/2016 16:57

Hey SC.

I haven't weighed myself since I last posted, but we have spent about a fortnight existing on takeaway. Which is not good for the waist line or bank balance.

We have family coming to stay on Saturday so will be eating too much when hosting.

Mil funeral is on Monday so hopefully when family has gone I can get back on track and still fit into this size 8 dress for the wedding on May 14th

In slightly cheery news I became a great aunt today

SpareCrust · 06/04/2016 23:16

Hey Eltsih good to 'see' you!

What a stressful time you and your dh have had. Sincere condolences to you both Flowers I hope your mil's death was as peaceful as possible and that your dh is coping.

It must be hard to be writing about life and death in the same post but huge congratulations to you on becoming a great aunt!

I will be thinking of you on Monday and hope the funeral proves to be a comfort (as much as these things can).

grumpysquash3 · 09/04/2016 10:59

Hi! I am still here.

I seem to have fallen off the no S wagon in a major way and have been binge eating Easter eggs :( I think I ate a whole one yesterday and it wasn't even mine!

I do need to get back on track though, otherwise I'll just end up piling on a load of weight and will be miserable.

Anyone up for starting afresh on Monday?

eltsihT · 09/04/2016 11:04

waves at grumpy

I am planning on restarting on monday 18th.

SpareCrust · 09/04/2016 13:45

Waves to Grumpy! [far too much chocolate still hanging around here too]

I will start again with you if I may eltsihT on 17th!

Will be thinking about you on Monday x

grumpysquash3 · 09/04/2016 15:05

Waves and smiles!
Yes, let's all try again for spring :)

SpareCrust · 10/04/2016 21:23

Yay Grumpy!

[dismisses thoughts of French fries and chocolate consumed today.]
