Anyone 16st+ and low-carbing?

Macloveswill · 11/01/2015 09:57

Hi, I started on 1st Jan at 18st 10lbs and I have so much to lose, it would be lovely to share my journey with others who have over 6 stones to lose.

I know it's going to be a really long slog and I'll need help staying on the straight and narrow. I have to do it this year, no excuses!

So far I have lost 8.4lbs in first 11 days, but that seems tiny when I've got nearly nine stones to lose altogether. My goal is 10st.

Anyone out there? All buddies welcome Grin

Evening, I've been in London all day with dd2. Went down on the 7am train and got the 8pm train home. Walked in 20 minutes ago and I am exhausted. I've walked nearly 8 miles today so I'm having a glass of wine.

Mrsstevejones · 08/02/2015 07:13

well Mrspnut thats perfectly understandable. What a tonne of walking, hope you and DD had a fab time.

We are all off swimming in a bit then going for a carvery - i can easily swerve the roast potatoes its roasted parsnips that will trouble me.

Have a great day everyone

Mrsstevejones · 08/02/2015 17:46

Had a lovely day today. I tried my first green smoothie with raw egg in it, it was fine, i had put loads of ginger in it to disguise any eggy taste - i hate eggs but i am hoping the protein and fat will be worth it.

I am doing uber bootcamp next week in prep for my valentines eve by hubby has planned. We are off out to a ball with 1920s dancing and kids are at grannys, so much drinking and dancing will be done! This will be my second night out since DS was born nearly a year ago so its a big deal for me.

The only suitable dress i own is a navy peplum dress that is very tight but really shows off my hourglass figure. So this week will be super low carb, no dairy or caffeine and i am going to up the walking and planking! Then i am going to buy a pair of spanx and breath in all night!!! I am so looking forwards to it.

We had a carvery after swimming and i managed to avoid all the carbs and had a fab bit of crackling with my pork.

Will be having some left over soup for dinner as still stuffed now.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Must plank once the kids go to bed.

Macloveswill · 08/02/2015 21:48

Well girly weekend went really well, stuck to the vodka slimline tonics and managed low carb amazingly well. Lunch: smoked salmon and prawn salad (without the bread). Then in the restaurant last night....Mussels (without the bread), Duck Confit...yum, yum, yummy (without the potatoes) and the cheese plate (without the plum bread, crackers and chutney). Bet the chef hated me!Smile Then this morning...full English (without the baked beans or the toast). Cashew nuts as a snack for the long drive home. Result, but friends teased me mercilessly for being a fussy mare! Grin

The alcohol does still seem to slow down the weight loss for a few days, but it's worth it!! I'm happy as long as I avoid carbs though really.

Sounds like you're all doing well.

Flame it's lovely getting into things that didn't used to fit isn't it?! Well done you!

MrsP you are doing so well with the exercise! I hope things are getting a bit easier for you?

And Mrs, your 20s do sounds brilliant....I'm sure you will look AMAZING in your peplum dress!

My husband made me the Moussaka from the idiot proof cookbook tonight. Really bland and flavourless, so definitely wouldn't recommend.

Here's to a great week for us all. Planking and walking start again tomorrow for me Smile

Wow Mac you have this going out thing licked - good choices all around and sounds yum.

I weighed in today and i am only a pound down but i am now 13st something, this is fab as i havent been 13st since pre DC. Getting into 13s has always been a massive challenge for me- i am thinking i might deserve another treat, am considering a pedicure.

Planking not going well, i think i have pulled my back as very stiff today so will have a rest day.

I am doing uber bootcamp this week so no dairy or caffeine, its going to be a tough week. Planning on walking more but i am already sat here talking myself out of it!!

Good luck everyone

Macloveswill · 09/02/2015 21:13

Hey Mrs, how's the uber bootcamp going? Well done on getting into the 13s!! Bet that feels great....I'll be getting the bunting out when I reach the 16s in 5lbs time Grin

Just back from my walk, have to confess I didn't get around to doing da plank today. And now all tired and fresh out the bath relaxing, so can't possibly muster the energy. Tomorrow is another day!

Hope you've all had a good start to the week and the scales are being kind.

MrsPnut · 10/02/2015 06:31

Morning, I've been so very busy lately and not making wise food choices.

I need to regroup and start again from the beginning, I am going to start having protein shakes for breakfast because they are really quick and will hopefully keep me going until lunchtime.

Macloveswill · 10/02/2015 07:29

Morning MrsP, it's so easy to get out of sync sometimes, especially if you haven't got the right food to hand.

You're right to just regroup and go back to the drawing board and you can work out where you find it hardest and give yourself solutions. Things like always having a pack of nuts in your bag, for emergencies, or shoving some babybels in the fridge at work might help. The morning shake sounds a good idea.

This happens to us all at some point, it's very difficult to stick to a totally different way of eating without having these kind of set-backs every now and again, but it's the keeping going that's important, so well done for getting back to it....this is the point when most people give up, but we're definitely not most people and we will be slim by Christmas however much regrouping it takes!!! Go MrsP!!!

Mrsstevejones · 10/02/2015 07:44

Mrsp i have a Bullet proof coffee for breakfast -which is coffee blended with butter and coconut oil using a stick blender - its a great way of getting loads of fat in easily. It is an acquired taste though but i love them.

I struggle with breakfast as no time for anything cooked and i dont eat eggs. Good luck with regrouping, if you need any meal inspiration just shout. I do get a bit fed up with the food sometimes and i need to get creative and organised as its too easy to make a big bowl of pasta or whip up a sandwich.

Uber bootcamp sucks, no cream in coffee, no creamy soup, no nibble of cheese. I did ok yesterday but i did have 2 little bits of cheese. It made me realise how much i rely on it for a go to snack. Will try harder today. No coffee is miserable.

Back is feeling better today so will try planking again today. I WILL walk to playgroup today.

Will be making pork fried rice today for dinner.

My DD is poorly today so its going to be a difficult day, bless her.

MrsPnut · 10/02/2015 19:13

Thank you, it's lovely to have a place to come for a bit of a boost when I'm struggling. I need to buy loads more protein and yoghurt as well as some almonds and pork scratchings for snacking on.

Mrsstevejones · 10/02/2015 20:05

Didnt walk to playgroup but my excuse is DS had a mammoth morning sleep so we didnt get to go as it was nearly over by the time he was up.

We went to soft play instead and had a fab time.Kiddies had lunch there and i had bacon and sausages with mayo - felt a bit odd having to ask for the cooked breakfast with no toast, no beans, no mushrooms, no hash browns, no eggs but was lovely.

DS is poorly and threw up all over my back whilst in the sling whilst i cooked dinner, uurrgghh.

I did stir fried cauli rice with pork belly slices, yum. I am trying to seriously increase my fat intake to see if that speeds things up.

So today i ate
B- 2x BPCs
L - 2x sausage, bacon and 1 plum tomato with mayo
D- Stirfried cauli rice with pork belly slices with shallots, green pepper and broccoli.

I tried on my skinny jeans and i could get them on but there was a considerable muffin top so wont be wearing them this week, but hopefully for next week - eekk.

I have 2 coldsores and i look like i have a trout pout, it hurts so much and i think i am coming down with the lergy - woe is me!!!

Mrsp - shopping and stocking up sounds like a good plan.I find i have to be organised with low carbing so i have lots of tasty stuff in.

Mrsstevejones · 10/02/2015 20:09

This week i aim to make proper pork scratchings, need to head to the butchers tom and google a good recipe. Any good recipes? Its not something i have ever eaten before as too fatty! Quite fancy something crunchy and salty.

Macloveswill · 10/02/2015 21:06

Weird about the cold sores...I also have two (one huge one on top lip, outside my lip line, so looks horrendous and small one on bottom lip). Scabby is never a good look is it?! I've still not planked but have made my walk again. Had no energy for our usual run up the steps at the end though. Period also arrived 6 days early, which it never does and so generally feeling a bit weak and meh! I wonder if it's my body reacting to such a change in diet, or I'm lacking in a particular vitamin or mineral. Who knows?!

I'm just going to have a quiet week as have a big night out on Saturday and want to feel up for partying, so a few early nights are definitely called for.

I must get some coconut oil to try the BPC. Do you just buy it at the supermarket?

OP posts:
Mrsstevejones · 10/02/2015 21:52

Out again?Wow mac, you have some stamina!!

My cold sores are in exactly the same place, bloody hurt at the mo. I thought mine might have been triggered by my facial, she put stingy stuff on my face and some of it went on my lip. Could be a reaction to the diet?

I am not feeling great and i usually get them when run down, i feel knackered at the mo even though i have had loads of sleep I am trying to do my spanish homework but struggling - brain feels like it is wading through glue.

I bought my coconut oil with a groupon deal but i have seen it at sainsburys, apparently the ktc brand is less coconutty tasting so prob best for coffee. Thats what i will buy next, asian supermarkets would be a good bet if you have one locally.

Need to go to town tomorrow for pull me in pants!Just worried i will have vpl squidge as my dress is very tight and you will see it!

flameprincess · 10/02/2015 22:57

Mac they do coconut oil in Tesco for about £6, it's extra virgin and will be with the olive oils. I've not eaten it but I use it on my skin and hair.

MrsSJ are you getting tummy control pants or full on spanx style? I wear the pants but the larger things always make me look worse, I get a definite bulge out of either side, not a good look! Hope you look better in yours haha. I caved and tried on 'the dress' yesterday, and omg I got in it and my upper arms weren't bulging out of the sleeves! (I couldn't pull the skirt part over my hips last time I tried it on haha) I reckon in two weeks time I'll totally be in it - feeling good!

What have you all got planned if anything for Valentine's Day? I normally cook a meal for DP and I'm stumped of what to do that won't completely derail our diets. He is a bbq loving carnivore so I'm looking through some meat heavy recipes!

My only issue this week is I'm really lacking on the exercise front again. I keep getting out late and getting the bus to get to work on time, and I'm so tired after work I can't be bothered to walk back. Really need to get motivated, it's so difficult when it's cold and grey outside.

Mrsstevejones · 11/02/2015 09:04

Hi Flame, we are off to a valentines ball 1920s style hence the spanx - i am worried about bulges and i cant afford full blown spanx as hopefully wont need them for long - might just breathe in lots!!

We usually do a M&S dine in meal so neither of us have to cook - really good steak with celeriac dauphinous would be a good bet -if i could spell! Followed by strawberries dipped in dark choc and clotted . Most of it is make ahead so giving you more time for drinking champers!

Can you try having a walk in the evenings like Mac does? Sacrifice one of your soaps? I used to just not think about it and put my trainers on and head out - the more i thought about it the less it happened - says me who hasnt exercised hardly at all this year and seriously needs to take my own advice!!!!

It does get easier and that dress will fit sooner. Then when the weather warms and its easier to spring out of bed you can walk to work, by then you will be so much fitter that you will hardly even have a rosy glow by the time you get there.

I tried on a few 16s yesterday and whilst they were too tight to wear i could do them up, yay.

I did well on my no dairy and went to bed early to avoid temptation, still knackered - hubby asked me if i slept well as i looked rough! - bless him!

Weighed again today - just in case! and i am still 13.13 so wasnt a blip.

Macloveswill · 12/02/2015 13:39

Haha....my social life is honestly not normally this good. It's just been one of those months where everything falls together. This Sat for Valentine's, we're going to a comedy night, followed by a house party at a friend's house for Mardi Gras.

Wow....just had my first bullet-proof coffee....erm....damn right it's an acquired taste! Shock

Thanks Flame, I found the tesco coconut oil. And way to go getting into your frock! In a couple of weeks you'll look great in it and will be doing a little jig in front of the mirror Grin

Mrs any joy on the pull me in pants? I find the best ones from M&S and come up to just underneath my bra, and that stops any bulges popping out elsewhere. I also have a posh lacy vintage style pair, but they were expensive from figleaves. M&S ones are under £20 I think and work fine. I can just see you strutting your stuff at the Valentine's ball! It will all feel worth it when your dress looks fab!

Still feeling slightly meh....weirdly early period only lasted 1 day, but I still feel bloated and a little weak as though I have my period, so guessing I will still have a period when it was due on 16th. Odd! And I've only lost 0.1 lbs to take me to exactly 20lbs off, so only 1.3lbs in the last week, which is the least I've lost in any week since I started. Plateau maybe?

Hope you're all doing ok. I'm still crying off the planking whilst I feel crappy, but also missed my walk last night, so hoping to go tonight. I really could do with the weight loss starting again, that's what keeps me going. Well that and the thought of looking SUPER SHIT HOT in my Christmas frock....mwhahahahah! Smile

Mrsstevejones · 12/02/2015 14:45

I have the lergy, my kids have been ill this week and yesterday all the cleaning up poo and sick caught up with me -yuck. I went to bed at 8pm and still feeling rough and tired. I have my period its early - apparently you can gain weight or stall at totm due to water retention - so hoping next week for a big drop. Last bootcamp i had a period for like 3 weeks out of 4 - that was fun but its something to do with oestrogen being released from fat cells so its a good sign.

Uber bootcamp still sucks. Hoping all the fat should give me a little boost.

No planking, no walking - just focusing on keeping my food down and keeping off the loo - sorry way tmi.

Mac persevere with the BPC, you will learn to love them and its a good way of getting fat in your diet with no protein or carbs.

I saw a great youtube vid explaining some of the science behind low carb called butter makes your pants fall off - he is a total fitski after losing weight, a real silver fox.

Might pop to town and try the M&S pull in pants - although £20 would be more than the dress (boohoo sale). I just dont want the wobble to be squished out and have an unusually large roll elsewhere.

Your valentines sounds fab - going in fancy dress? I am making 85% choc truffles in little heart shaped moulds - just need to not eat all of them!

Keep the faith everyone

Macloveswill · 12/02/2015 16:31

Sorry to hear you've been poorly Mrs...inevitable I suppose when in such close proximity to little ones. Hope you shake it off soon!

You've set my mind at rest about the period thing, so thank you. Last month came 2 days early, this time an early show. An Oestrogen release makes sense, was beginning to worry something might be up. It shows what we're doing is working then! Good to know.

Although the BPC made me want to gag, I must admit I've felt fantastic and buzzy all afternoon and not felt hungry at all, it surprisingly filled me up. So I might give it another go tomorrow. How much butter and coconut oil do you use per cup? Maybe good for a boost before my walk if I'm a bit tired.

Not full on fancy dress for party, as comedy isn't dress up, but putting mask, wig and feather boa on in the taxi there, just to show willing Grin, but I gather some people will be in full Brazilian carnivale regalia (like I could get away with one of those feather and jewelled bikinis anyway!!) Good news is that I can wear a dress that's very fitted on the bodice and always been a bit too tight and now fits perfectly. It bloody should do, it's a size 20! Naturally, I tell myself it must be a VERY small size 20 Wink

OP posts:
Mrsstevejones · 12/02/2015 16:57

Obvs a teeny tiny size 20 and def came from the same shop as my teeny tiny sized 16 jeans that give me a massive muffin top!

I find the BPC gives me a good whoosh of energy, not sure if its the caffeine or the fat but it rocks. I use 25g butter and 1tbsp of coconut oil and blend with a stick blender - drink whilst hot as its rank lukewarm. I think i read somewhere that caffeine helps temp boost your metabolism so getting more benefit from exercise but as with everything else i say i could have imagined it!

You will have to start sewing on sequins for next years mardi gras do - no wait the bikini will be so tiny it wont take five mins !!

Cant wait for hubby to come home so i can head to bed

Macloveswill · 12/02/2015 17:21

Haha...reminds me of an old episode of The Royal Family, when the girl next door said the sizes from the catalogue were 'all to cock' because her jacket was too tight. I'm always happy to blame small fitting clothes rather than my big fitting body Grin

Yeah sure I'll just need a tiny sequin stuck on each nipple for next year's Mardi Gras party! Smile

Def and early night for you Mrs, it'll all feel better in the morning x

OP posts:
Mrsstevejones · 13/02/2015 08:35

I had loads of sleep last night and still feel rubbish and cold sores still huge but now going nice and crusty. urgh.

Yesterday food wise was rubbish i had
3x bpc, plate of cucumber, mayo, pepperoni and cheese. 25g of 85% dark choc.

Not nearly enough veg so will have some green smoothies to see if that perks me up.

Hubby off work today so i might try and crawl back to bed.

Mrsstevejones · 13/02/2015 18:40

Lovely hubby let me have an afternoon sleep and i feel amazing now. Totm is going, coldsore is going and i much better. Thank the stars.

Hubby and i had a just dance off, which he won but was a fun bit of exercise.
DD and i had a dance around the living room to 80s classics. Got a sweat on, i am so unfit.

I made valentines truffles from 85% choc and ate 6 of them -sigh, so will be given to MIL tom as i cant be trusted. Bloody lovely though.

I am just packing everything for tomorrow and getting all our clothes out and i am very excited for our big night out.

How is everyone else? Flame, Mrsp and Mac?? Got any lovely plans for the weekend?

Macloveswill · 13/02/2015 22:05

Ah he is a good boy Mrs! Glad you're feeling a bit better in time for your celebrations tomorrow night. The chocs sound yum! Have an amazing time!!

We have a child free afternoon and evening tomorrow and looking forward to the comedy night and party afterwards. Nice to wear something that was too tight too! It makes me feel like we're getting somewhere. Oh and cold sores are now past the scabby stage and can at least be hidden with make up Smile

Had a BPC again today....it's growing on me, not so much because of the taste, but it makes me feel great...just loads of energy.

Wishing you all lots of lovely Valentine fun tomorrow Wink have a great weekend all of you!!

MrsPnut · 14/02/2015 16:37

Afternoon, I have been shopping and bought a hundred weight of veg, meat and yoghurt. I also have babybels and pepperami so low carb is back on.

I have spent the afternoon chopping shallots, celery and carrots to make sofrito. I've used some to make a bolognaise with a mix of beef and pork mince with stock and a small carton of pasatta. That will make dinner on Monday, lunch on Tuesday and some for the freezer too.
