OK, I know this isn't massive in the big scheme of things but all my adult life I have weighed about 8 1/2 stone. I'm 5' 6" and have always been a size 8.

I'm 49 now and in the last year I've put on over a stone. I am now 9st 10 and I feel shit! I don't think my eating habits have changed, I think I'm just getting older. I feel really lethargic and like I can't even be bothered to go to the gym. My last swim cost me about £200 it's so long since I went before that.

I am going back to work tomorrow when I will obviously have loads more time than in the holiday as routine will be restored Grin so I am hoping to stop eating crap snacks.

I don't want to go on a diet as I eat pretty healthily anyway. I don't have a sweet tooth which is good. My absolute achilles heel is savoury stuff like crisps and wine. I have had them every night this holiday (I'm a teacher so it's not just a week or so).

I don't want to look drawn and older, but I would like to be 9 stone again by Christmas. I think sensible eating, cutting out wine Shock and crisps (apart from Friday nights) should do the trick.

Anyone out there who feel like me? I know there are people who will think 9.10 is not a lot but for me it feels uncomfortable.

I'm not going to weigh for at least 2 weeks. I rarely weigh anyway, I only did it because my clothes and bra feel tight. I just want to feel better and more like me again.

I may need some encouragement to stay off the wine Blush

Hooray! I went for a run and it wasn't too bad. My cough is still irritating me but it felt OK when I was running. Early night for me I think

I was down to 9.3 last week. I've had a good week but don't want to step on the scales?!?
Nearly there.
Any tips on maintaining your new weight?

Hippychickster · 19/01/2015 22:30

That's brilliant fidelma. I know what you mean about not daring to step on the scales!

I think I've just reached a weight that my body likes again so it's not hard to maintain. I only drink wine at the weekend, eat very sensibly during the week and do loads of exercise (apart from last week). It seems to be working so far!

Just found this thread am in similar position to where you were in aug a stone heavier no inspiration to exercise etc so I'm trying to make small changes started c25k last week back in gym week before this week supplements again anyway I just wanted to say I really liked this thread !

fidelma · 20/01/2015 21:50

Half a lb down in 5 days. (Must not be greedy and want more off)
It all mounts up.
My face is looking thin. I don't want to lose much more off that so I'm probably close to what should be my goal weigh.
I am exercising a lot. Hill walking with the dog (fast pace)

Eastpoint · 21/01/2015 22:25

I've been steady weight wise but am now giving up on the physio's advice - resting my leg doesn't seem to have helped so I'm doing Pilates, a stretch class which is like a toning class & ran again today. I did a body conditioning class on Sunday & was horrified by how unfit I was, but I can still run 5k in under 30 mins. I am eating better & hope that I'll be back where I was on 12th September soon - ready to work hard at losing weight. Well done to you others.

Hippychickster · 22/01/2015 07:15

Morning! Nice to see some old faces still here and welcome any new ones (Parsley1234).

I'm still doing well, after my horrible cold last week I'm back on track with my running and clean eating. It's half term in just over 3 weeks - that's my next weigh in. I think I've stayed the same though, which is fine.

Keep going everyone!

Parsley1234 · 22/01/2015 11:44

Thanks for welcome ! I've done exercise supplements next week am going to try clean eating hippy did you just cut out the crap and exercise that's what it looked like on the thread I find that the hardest to organise x

Eastpoint · 22/01/2015 19:29

Managed to get to the gym this morning for the stretch class - sweat ran off me at a few points which was reassuring. Ate a small meal at Itsu when out with a friend and am hiding upstairs away from pre-dinner nibbles which DH cooks dinner. Long baths after dinner stop me from eating badly after 8pm but I can't do that tonight as DD2 & I watch Death in Paradise together as a treat on Thursdays.

Welcome Parsley1234!

Hippychickster · 22/01/2015 20:08

Yes Parsley that's just about all I did. Cut out alcohol during the week, very healthy eating and loads of water, then at the weekend I have pretty much what I like. Always a few glasses of wine on a Friday night! I also started running. I was rubbish when we started this, but now can comfortably run 5 miles, which I do three or four times a week.

I'm determined not to go on a diet. I don't ever want to feel like I'm denying myself or I'll just give up. It's got to be something I enjoy and can live with forever. Someone at work said I looked really thin today and I felt great! Although that probably has a lot to do with my warped body image!

Eastpoint sounds like you have thrown yourself back into exercise! I so miss having a bath. We moved house last year, and are due to have a huge extension in the summer. At the moment the house is less than desirable(!) and we only have a shower. How I miss lying in the bath with a glass of wine.

Yes yes yes to Death in Paradise! We love it in this house too!!

I have downloaded c25k and mfp and inputted all food for two days no wonder I gained weight and didn't lose ! Latte 105 bullet proof coffee 150 peanut butter toast 500 oh my god !! Shocked anyway starting Monday fast two days low carb three days and bit relaxed sat sun plus c25k and personal trainer aka hitler I am writing meal options as I type. Hippy did you mainly stick to regular same meals to make it easier recipe options gratefully received

Hippychickster · 24/01/2015 12:12

I eat a lot of seafood. My favourite meal is a whole crab with a mayo sauce which I just sit and crack with a nutcracker or hammer! I also eat loads of prawns and fish.

One of my other favourite meals is chicken and quinoa. I cook the quinoa in veg stock and then when it's done I mix in fresh lime juice and coriander. Dry fry the chicken (thighs as I like the brown meat) and steam some asparagus. Put it all together and it's delicious. I also eat sweet potatoes.
I don't like the feeling of being full. It feel bloaty and uncomfortable and none of these things bloat me out.

At the weekend I do have what I like. This morning I had a bacon and egg sandwich which was delicious, but I did go for a 6 mile run too.

I make it my aim to ONLY eat food I love. If I don't love it, I find it easy to refuse. Also, now I've lost weight, I don't want to undo all the good work by porking out and putting it all back on! It's my motivation.

That is great inspiration hippy ! When you were losing weight did you calorie watch ? I just feal so pissed off I gained back 14lbs from losing 35 still could be worse I'm on it as of tomorrow x

Eastpoint · 25/01/2015 10:57

Very sore leg/hip after a warm up run before a Pilates class yesterday. There was a new teacher & I didn't like her style of teaching. I also spent about 90 minutes buying food, books, going to the post office so I don't know if carrying heavy bags could have made a difference. I had to walk the dogs today (1hr 40 mins) as my husband was busy & it felt sore the whole time despite my taking an ibuprofen first. Hoping it won't be too bad later & that I can run later or tomorrow.

Hippychickster · 25/01/2015 15:38

I NEVER count calories!!!! The last thing I want is to think about food! I want to eat what I like without worrying. I'm lucky that I do like very healthy foods. For example I always take a salad for lunch at work because I love salad. I take fruit and carrot sticks as snacks because I love those.

When I gave up smoking 11 years ago, I used the Allan Carr Easy way to give up smoking. He said you are not 'giving up smoking'. Once you've smoked your last fag, you are a non smoker. That really hit a chord with me as it didn't feel like denial or giving anything up. I am trying to do the same with food. I'm not trying to eat less, I just am because I'm only eating what I really want. It really works for me. I'm not sure I've explained that very well. I think it's really important to enjoy what you eat. As soon as you feel like it's denial, it's going to fail! Allan Carr said if you want that cigarette, then smoke it, but do you really want it? It takes 5 minutes to smoke and then an hour of feeling bad because you did.

I think about this every time I feel like eating crisps during the week. Choose between what you want now, and what you want most. Well I may want some crisps (which of course I can have at the weekend) but I want to look good in a bikini in the summer more.

Eastpoint take care. Don't do too much if you are in pain or you will make yourself worse. Hope it gets better for you.

Eastpoint · 26/01/2015 18:39

I did a little cardio today but my hip was mega sore. Later I had a private Pilates session & my instructor pinned down my resurgence in pain down to my having had to lie flat on my back during a procedure on Thursday with no support under my knees. I limped in & strode out, a big success. Hoping I'll be back to normal tomorrow.

Oooh what did deborahc123 say? Anyone know?

Sounds like you have sorted yourself East. Let's hope that's it now and you can get on with your exercise as normal.

I've been running every night this week so feeling good. It's a rest day tomorrow and I'm quite looking forward to it.

fidelma · 29/01/2015 21:12

I've not been the best for the last 10 days. Not so much exercise as I have been ill with an ear infection and I had to have a root canal arghhhhh the pain the night before.
So I have eaten more and been slower. I hate it.
I don't think I have weighed myself for a couple if weeks. I suspect I'm about 5 lb off my goal weight (I hope not any more) however I'm not going to look until Tuesday morning. Hopefully that will motivate me again.

brainwashed · 30/01/2015 17:09

It was all going so well..until I broke my arm yesterday :-( So that's any significant exercise out of the question for a while
