Anyone up for a post-natal weight loss support thread?

DC3 is now 6 weeks and I am 15kg heavier than I want to be (about 10kg higher than pre-pregnancy, when I was already a bit over my 'ideal' weight). For my health, and to get into my old clothes, I want to lose at least 10kg, preferably 15kg.

My plan is to vaguely follow Slimming World principles and aim to average at least 70,000 steps a week (10,000 a day, in line with recommendations). I also want to do it healthily and whilst avoiding emotional angst (no beating myself up that I'm naughty if one day I eat chocolate fudge cake, just careful eating overall).

Anyone want to join me? I've been promised one buddy already on another thread.

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 07/07/2014 08:01

New week and new start for both of us.

I've lost a measly 1lb. I know all the stuff about slow progress and right direction but I had a pretty good week so god help me in the bad weeks!!
11.13

bakingtins · 07/07/2014 15:55

Down to 10st9 pretty pleased with that. 23lb to go....

somany hope your first day has gone ok.
suzie keep up the good work. I remember from when I did SW before how disappointing it was if a good week was followed with a small loss or static weight, but often you would see a good result the following week. Don't be disheartened.

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 07/07/2014 20:15

Wow Baking. Well done!

I've had a good few days - feeling positive about the food choices I've made and am hoping my weigh in tomorrow will be ok. Well done to those who've lost this week and lots of encouragement to those who haven't had the result they wanted.

LJBanana · 08/07/2014 14:45

Please can I join in??

Baby 15 weeks DS3. I'm also breast feeding.

I think I have about 2.5 stones to loose. I didn't put 2 stones on during this pregnancy but hadn't lost it all from the last one.
I'm gyming and swimming (in between feeding and everything else).
I've started making smoothies the night before for breakfast, And I'm trying to snack on berries. The intention is there but sometimes the iron will falters!

IWantToMakePeppaBacon · 08/07/2014 15:50

Had my first weigh in yesterday and lost 4 lbs Smile

Only another 50 to go... Hmm

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 08/07/2014 16:24

Well done!

I have come to the conclusion that iron will is unsustainable for me. What derails me from healthy eating is lots of little snacks when I'm trying to resist (finishing off my daughter's cheesecake, when I don't even like that sort of cheesecake, was a particularly fine weekend example). I think I'd do better to just say "Right, I'm eating a Mars bar" or whatever. Because then I would feel that I'd had something sweet and satisfying and not pick at things for three days. I'm sure it would work out healthier and less calorific long term (and is, I suspect, what naturally slim people do).

I lost 1 lb. Slow and steady.

Bluecarrot · 09/07/2014 22:26

Hi everyone. I have a 5.5 month old dd who is breastfed though I'm starting to give her solids now, and am 14st exactly. Hoping to be around the 11st mark eventually ( pref within a year as we want to start ttc again then.) I was 12 st 6 pre-pregnancy.

Problem is weight just isn't shifting no matter what I did... Up til last weekend when we stayed with DPs parents and I had 3 takeaways and far too much cola. But lost 2lbs. What's that about?!

Starting slimming world but not in a class. I did it before and loved it, I just find making the time to cook from scratch hard. I need to get better at advance prep! And having healthy snacks available.

Good luck everyone,

midnight1983 · 10/07/2014 12:05

Hi all. For those of you who are breastfeeding, are you counting calories or just using an exercise approach? I am struggling to fugue out whats appropriate...

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 10/07/2014 13:29

Exercise really won't help you lose weight. Well, it will, but only in combination with diet. You burn very few calories by the sort of amounts of exercise most of us do (as opposed to Jessica Eniss-Hill or someone!). And research shows we tend to over compensate.

So it needs to be diet. I am not calorie counting but doing a loose Slimming World. That allows me to eat unlimited amounts, but making sure I am making (mostly) healthy choices.

Hello, may I join too?

My baby is 8 weeks old and I really want to get back in my normal clothes NOW. But my body is holding onto the weight like it's the crown jewels.
I'm 79kgs and want to get down to 68kg. I'm 5'6.

EBF too. I've drastically stopped eating chocolate for a week now. I don't think I've gone that long without chocolate since I was a baby myself.

This week, my DH has been on holidays so we have been eating out with the dcs and having icecreams everyday. Not good for my weight.

I did a week of counting calories with My Fitness Pal and it gave me a better idea of how many calories is in my usual food. Hence cutting back on the chocolate.

So am now trying to up my exercise and keep an eye on the food intake.

Suzietwo · 10/07/2014 21:32

This is my third time breastfeeding and losing weight. First time I had 5 stone to shift!

I don't eat crap. And cut back on carbs, but nothing drastic. So diet today was big bowl porridge, veges and humous w slice bread for lunch and salmon and veg for dinner. And a corneto. Oops

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 10/07/2014 21:40

Gosh Suzi, snap!

I had bircher muesli (aka 'cold porridge' in our house), then salad with cottage cheese and ham, handful of nuts and raisins and an apple and then salmon with new potatoes and veg. The downside was a calypo and strawberry jelly!

Suzietwo · 10/07/2014 21:43

LJBanana · 11/07/2014 08:26

LJBanana · 11/07/2014 08:26

Suzietwo · 11/07/2014 08:54

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 11/07/2014 09:35

Go! You can do it!

OP posts:
LJBanana · 11/07/2014 11:29

Ahhhh I didn't make it. It was at 9, and dc2 has a club at 9.30. How long is the 1st meeting?I knew I would be pushing it.
I've rung the lady though and at least I know to be organised for next week.

Flickstar · 11/07/2014 21:57

Hello, can I join too please? My DD is 3 weeks old (EBF) and I have a 2 year old DS. I'm 5ft 10 and have 33lb to lose which seems loads! I think I'm going to do MFP but allow extra for BF. I can't exercise just yet as I had a CS but can do more walking. Ill weigh in a s start properly on Monday- I'm excited!

Thenemesisofthevole · 13/07/2014 19:38

How was everyone's weekend? I managed to stick to my ww points even though we went out for a meal yesterday so feeling quite positive. My ds is teething though at the moment and sleeping badly (and bf much more) so my appetite is increasing. Just trying to stay focused.

Somanyillustrations · 13/07/2014 20:28

I've been much better this week Smile gained a pound last week, but have stuck to a sensible diet this week, drank plenty of water and joined the gym! I'm bloody sore, but feeling ok about weigh in tomorrow. Had Friday as a cheat day as we were away, but managed to rein it back in yesterday. That's a massive thing for me, as I usually throw in the towel after any sort of blip...
