Anyone up for a post-natal weight loss support thread?

DC3 is now 6 weeks and I am 15kg heavier than I want to be (about 10kg higher than pre-pregnancy, when I was already a bit over my 'ideal' weight). For my health, and to get into my old clothes, I want to lose at least 10kg, preferably 15kg.

My plan is to vaguely follow Slimming World principles and aim to average at least 70,000 steps a week (10,000 a day, in line with recommendations). I also want to do it healthily and whilst avoiding emotional angst (no beating myself up that I'm naughty if one day I eat chocolate fudge cake, just careful eating overall).

Anyone want to join me? I've been promised one buddy already on another thread.

If we are weighing in today, I'm bang on 12 stone

Started walking dog with baby in a sling which is great.
Been a bit lazy with dieting over weekend but if I behave for a few days, I hope to see a 2lb loss this week

I do just love wine

Oh and my potato plants have blight so they HAvE to be eaten...with butter

cadidog · 30/06/2014 08:53

I'm doing ok, meals as normal i.e. usual portions, haven't changed what I normally cook. I've cut out cake (sob!) and actually the first day without I was ravenously hungry but that has calmed down. Cut down on biscuits too.

I'm struggling to walk more but have been trying to park the car further away from places, forcing me to walk. Also forcing me to be constantly late but ah well.

Next phase involves cutting down my meal portions I think. I'd normally ditch cows milk for almond too but I'm breast feeding so I'm reluctant to do that.

IWantToMakePeppaBacon · 30/06/2014 08:53

I am in, weighed in today at 12st 13 Blush just under 2.5 stone to lose to get to a healthy BMI. The curse of severe SPD and crutches when pregnant! Ideally want to get back to 9st 7, pre both DC weight, but will see how I get on.

Aiming to get out for a walk as often as possible with baby (7 weeks) and toddler (2.4) as many days as possible. Trying to convince DC1 into the double buggy is an issue in itself Hmm

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 30/06/2014 09:12

Weighed today and lost 4lb so pretty chuffed with that but under no illusions it will continue at that rate.
Goal for next week is to continue the walking (averaged 14000 steps a day all week) and not give in to the evening munchies. I am trying not to eat through boredom, will be tough this week as DH is away so long evening alone, then going to the ILs for the Tour de Yorkshire next weekend which is bound to involve trifle!

Rockchick1984 · 30/06/2014 10:35

Wow Baking and Penguin you've both done brilliantly!! Any particular diet or just through eating healthier?

I'm now 12st 2lb, so 2lb down but I didn't eat much yesterday so think that's why, I've not stuck to it very well this week!

Lazybones80 · 30/06/2014 11:35

1kg lost this week. If I could keep that up I'd be happy!
I've tried to cut out cake and chocolate. Exercise hasn't happened. I'm not being to strict with meals as I'm EBF 1 month old DS.

bakingtins · 01/07/2014 09:43

I'm loosely following SW rockchick as that's how I lost the weight after DS2. The main difference has been to cut out snacking. I realised the 200g bars of chocolate I would have nibbled at over a day are 1000 calories! Blush I'm having a glass of water first if I feel hungry because BF makes me ferociously thirsty in this hot weather and I don't think I can always tell the difference between thirst and hunger.
I'm pretty cross with myself for letting it get to this stage. I had a shit year 2012-13 with 3 miscarriages and a great deal of comfort eating, so I suspect I was well over my target weight before this pregnancy anyway and have just continued those bad habits. Time to make some positive changes, anyway...

Somanyillustrations · 01/07/2014 09:51

Can I join please. Baby is 11 weeks and EBF. Weighed in at 10 st 6lb today and I'm 5'6". I'd like to get down to 9st3 by September, but in the much shorter term I go back to work 2 days a week on Monday, and my uniform is a bit tight!

I'm doing 30 day shred, and upping veg intake/cutting out crap... Have lost 2 stone since giving birth and I'm sick of hiding away now Hmm

midnight1983 · 01/07/2014 10:36

Hello, would like to join in please! Baby is17 weeks old and when I was weighed at 8 week check I am about a stone heavier than pre-pregnancy, but I think I was a stone heavier than I wanted to be anyway, so I want to lose around 2 stone eventually. I am EBF at the moment, so really don't want to diet ad such but am interested in the 10,000 steps per day. How do you measure this? ATM, I walk a lot with baby in pram and have strarted yoga, but bfing had not provided magic weight loss for me. Also find it hard to be sensible when sleep deprived!

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 01/07/2014 10:54

I am doing a loose Slimming World too. Basically lots of veg, lean meat, pulses, pasta etc and very limited bread, processed food and sugary ssnacks.

Realised I never said thanks anyway for looking for the dress Jelly

Midnight - welcome. Lots of us are breastfeeding so it is more eating healthy and cutting out cake than traditional dieting. I am measuring my steps with a pedometer. Dh is a geek so I have a fitbit, but you can pick up basic ones very cheaply. Just clip to your waistband and check at bedtime. Smile

OP posts:
Rockchick1984 · 01/07/2014 13:17

My phone lets me use the fitbit app (iPhone) but didn't realise that putting it in the pram basket means it doesn't count my steps Blush so it's not worked for me so far!

Baking you were a huge help to me after I miscarried last year so just wanted to say thankyou for it, and I'm made up your little one is here now Thanks

I've decided to try and follow 5:2 diet - did my first fast day yesterday and it was surprisingly easy. Next one will be Friday. Fingers crossed for me that it works!

Cakeismymaster · 01/07/2014 16:26

somany welcome and let's be diet buddies! I have exact same stats as you and back at work this week too. Only difference is my target is mid August (probably not doable I know!)

Cannotbelieveit · 03/07/2014 16:06

Can I join? I'm on another thread too but the more support the better!

DS2 is 9 weeks Saturday and I started SW last week (first weigh in tomorrow, hope I've lost something I've stuck to it 100%). I also have DS1 who is 15 months so a very small age gap means I've accumulated much more weight than I'm happy with. I've set my goal as 11st (tho May change to 10? I was happy with how I looked at 10st3lb. I was 15st7lb when I went to the first meeting last week Shock

bakingtins · 03/07/2014 17:16

Welcome cannot - the more, the merrier. Good luck for weigh in tomorrow!

penguin , who was it who said "no beating myself up that I'm naughty if one day I eat chocolate fudge cake, just careful eating overall" ?? Grin

Cannotbelieveit · 04/07/2014 12:05

First weigh in at SW and lost 6 lbs!! Still so much to lose but a great start Grin

bakingtins · 04/07/2014 15:27

Well done cannot that is a great start!

chemas · 06/07/2014 01:39

Dc2 is 8 weeks tomorrow and whilst I've lost the weight I outbox through pregnancy I had put weight on before falling pregnant and would love to lose 16kgs to feel like my old self again, am trying some clean eating, fingers crossed I see some results 10,000 steps sounds a great steady start to exercise without pushing ourselves into exhaustion given the roller coaster our bodies are going through already! Good luck ladies :)

Thenemesisofthevole · 06/07/2014 20:29

Is it too late to join? After a few false starts I am focussed on getting rid of this extra weight. My ds is 7 months and I still have a lot to lose (I gained 4.5 stone in pregnancy; he was on the 98th centile and I had a lot of fluid!) and I've still got 3 stones to lose. I weigh 13st 3 currently and I'm breastfeeding. I re-started weight watchers this week. I have a shoulder injury so can't really exercise but am upping the walking. Oh and I'm still breast feeding. Well done to those who have already lost weight.

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 06/07/2014 21:13

Of course you can still join. Welcome.

My weigh in is tomorrow. I am expecting to have stayed the same or gained weight. I've had a rough few days - DS caught a cold (his second FFS. He's only 8 weeks), and gave it to me. So poor sleep and illness mean I've been mainlining bread and pasta, plus chocolate. I'm starting afresh as of the morning though. Smile I'm going to do a proper week of writing down what I eat.

Bit worried about weigh in tomorrow, too much of everything except exercise this week. Back on placement tomorrow, really sad about leaving baby and a bit stressed about how expressing is going to work Hmm
