notyummy Just checked out your photos. Absolutely no bulk there. I do not even aspire to have a body like that, because mine is different [sigh]

overreaction It took me months to conquer Jillian's side planks, and now I am doing Bob Harper and his side planks are different, so I need to learn them all again. (Am a bit uncoordinated, etc.)

Happy I hope you are enjoying L3.

Happypiglet · 24/06/2013 13:49

Well I made it thru L3....can't really say I enjoyed it! It seems so leg heavy that I can already feel the ache!
Not going to make five sessions this week as off to Wimbledon on Thurs squeak!

Jacksterbear · 24/06/2013 16:30

Lovethesea if you've made it through day 2 the worst is over and it will get easier after this, promise! Well done for starting.

Happypiglet L3 Ripped is insane isn't it!

Overreaction great work on 6w6p - are you doing L1?

I am REALLY missing my Ripped and Shred DVDs which I've lent out, and on top of that, seem to have mislaid my ES&S DVD! Arggh! Have been really short on time recently and really miss having a quick 20 min workout to do, and for some reason I don't like doing only part of e.g. NMTZ or BFBM as it doesn't feel like I've done a "full" workout IYSWIM.

So today I resorted to doing Davina's "The Pump" but with 2kgs weights throughout the whole thing incl. the cardio intervals, which actually worked quite well although still not in Jillian's league.

Happyp enjoy Wimbledon! Envy

Lovethesea · 24/06/2013 20:06

Did Day 3 too!! Woohoo! Am very impressed with myself. I've watched some old episodes of Biggest Loser to see where Jillian became famous and keep thinking, if they can work through the pain I can too!

Was glad my pilates class was cancelled tonight though.

Thanks for the encouragement.

bettycocker · 25/06/2013 08:27

Wow, NMTZ is fantastic! I had to pinch myself recently. After not weighing myself for ages, I hopped on the scales on the first day of my period and had lost 5 pounds. Last weigh in was about 6-8 weeks ago.

Are there any relatively low impact Jillian DVD's that don't involve too much jumping? I've been doing Yoga Meltdown, 6w6p and nmtz. It would be good to throw something else in though.

The only thing is the sweating. I read somewhere that you body starts producing more sweat as you get fitter. It gets more efficient at keeping your core temperature down. I am litterally dripping with sweat during a Jillian Micheals workout.

I look like a sweaty beetroot afterwards! People have come round just after I've finished and been like Shock "What the hell have you been doing?"

I now break a sweat so easily though, even just walking at a brisk pace. Blush

notyummy · 25/06/2013 08:44

Hi all!

Lovethesea- well done and keep at it. Once you see the results you will be addicted!

Fab weight loss Betty- is weight loss your main goal? That's a significant amount. It just shows how strength training raises your metabolic rate and can be just as effective for weight loss as cardio.

Still plugging away with the callenetics plus a few workouts that I have got off Pinterest. My callenetics DVD def works me harder than the book, although there are a few sections I can't do because they are tough on the lower back. Restarted my daily press ups quite cautiously, making sure I was using my core to support the back. Having not done any since Feb I wasn't sure how I would get on, but I don't appear to have completely lost fitness. Can still do 40 full ones at a time, so just one set a day at the moment to avoid aggravating the back. Going to see surgeon for post op review on Monday and intend to grill him about exercise. Was wondering whether I could try L1 shred without jumping/running but will see what he says.

Oh- re lower impact Jillian. I am not sure if there is anything really different, but I find L1 Killer Buns and Thighs relatively so.

bettycocker · 25/06/2013 09:07

notyummy What was the surgery for? Sorry is that is personal, in which case just ignore that question.Smile

I'm impressed that you can do 40 full pushups. The fact that you've not done any for ages is even more impressive. I have been doing Jillian Michaels DVDs since March and I still can't manage a full set of pushups.

Regarding the weight loss, I wasn't actually overweight, but was towards the higher end of my acceptable BMI. Improving my body composition and getting in shape was my main goal and I didn't really care if it involved weight loss or not. I'm just shocked, because I always put on a few pounds just before and during my period. I won't be weighing myself again for a while.

Jillian's mix of strength training and cardio intervals is awesome. Weird as it may sound, I can actually feel the fat burning off sometimes after her workouts.

Thanks for the tip about killer buns and thighs btw.

Jacksterbear · 25/06/2013 09:25

Ooh that's interesting re the sweating, betty - makes me feel better about the fact that I am quite often dripping by the time I get onto my train to commute to/from work, after power-walking to the station! Blush

bettycocker · 25/06/2013 09:41

The human body is an awesome piece of kit Jacksterbear. It adapts to produce more sweat to cool you down, but that sweat is more diluted. So, you don't lose as many electrolytes - eg salts.

Body building sites are full of useful info!

I was in town the other day and had been walking at quite a brisk pace. I went in to a shop to pick something up and I was dripping with sweat. Blush

Overreactionoftheweek · 25/06/2013 09:46

I'm having a rest day today, have had an awful sinus headache since yesterday so really can't face leaping around and sweating buckets!

Jack I am on lv1, not even using a weight yet! Might try that next week.

betty very interesting about the sweat, guess I'm fitter than I thought Wink

notyummy the press ups are seriously impressive, I have very weak arms and shoulders but am hoping Jillian will soon change that.

I actually have withdrawal symptoms from not doing the workout today, feel very lazy!

notyummy · 25/06/2013 09:59

No, no not personal. Have bored everyone with my tale of woe so happy to share! I had a prolapsed disc that was protruding hugely and causing problems with my right leg (sciatica, numbness, struggling to walk at its worst.) Docs reckoned only op would help.

I have always been keen on fitness so having an enforced period of only being able to do walking; stretching etc is very hard. I thoroughly recommend callenetics though for low impact (similar to yoga; Pilates etc- based on ballet.) I gave seen really good results from something that looks so deceptively gentle you think it cant do anything!

Ponks · 25/06/2013 23:51

Another one here that is relieved that sweating a lot may be a sign of increased fitness - I have never been one to emerge unscathed from a workout but have found that I do drip with sweat quite quickly with JM! Particularly 6w6p L2!

Have been suffering bit of a loss of mojo lately and disappearing into a vicious circle of feeling tired / depressed so not exercising so feeling worse ... etc. Last couple of days I have made myself get changed and do a Shred as soon as I get in from work. I feel tense with stress when I start but such a good feeling to get moving. Got to keep up the good work.

notyummy am so mega impressed with 40 pressups. I did just about 10 today in full pushup position which was soo hard. I think I have puny wrists that just can't take it.

over hope your headache is gone by now, I get bad headaches too so I sympathise muchly.

bettycocker · 26/06/2013 08:32

notyummy, ouch! You poor thing. May you have a speedy recovery. Do you have to go to physio?

I had major open abdominal surgery a couple of years ago, and recovered remarkably quickly. Surgery on your spine must be completely different.

My mum had the callenetics book, but not the motivation to use it.

I am really slack on my yoga and pilates these days. It just takes so long. Once you get used to a hard workout in 30 mins, yoga starts to look less appealing. I might have to force myself and take it up again and try callenetics.

Ponks, I'm addicted to Jillian now. I can relate to feeling better when you exercise. Once you get back into the habit, it will be easy to keep it up. 6W6P L2 is crazy. You do get a feeling of accomplishment afterwards though.

niceupthedance · 26/06/2013 09:39

Hello everyone just checking in, in the middle of a house move so no Jillianing for me until I clear a space!

Might try some press ups later, just to keep my hand in - no way I can do 40 either... Perhaps I'll just do them on my knees!

Overreactionoftheweek · 26/06/2013 10:38

Another day of 6w6p done. Ds watched this time, he laughed and kicked footballs at me...Jillian's got nothing on him!

I'm also addicted to Jillian now, felt rubbish yesterday for not doing it...the junk food may have also contributed, oops Blush
Glad you're back on it ponks

Taking ds swimming later, wrestling a slippery toddler is bound to be good exercise right?! Ha
Then I'm off to the cinema alone this afternoon, it'll be lovely and quiet and I can't wait!

Happypiglet · 26/06/2013 13:53

As predicted this week is not going to plan.... Done L3 Ripped twice but not had time today....well OK I could do some now before pick up but the draw of Leighton Hewitt on the TV is too much.... Did do nearly three hours of housework tho so not been a sedentary day!
Tomorrow I am at Wimbledon eating too much so nothing doing then. Will need to make myself do it again on Friday.
I find that I can only get motivated if I do it as soon as I return from school drop off...if I leave it later in the day I just can 't bring myself to be bothered....I think it's the changing into other clothes thing... Bit of a cop out I know!

Jacksterbear · 27/06/2013 10:58

betty I have the same feeling about yoga, pilates etc. I have so little time to exercise that I need to feel like I'm getting "value for money" with both strength and cardio happening at once - which is why I like JM workouts so much.

Happyp, hope you're having a fab time at Wimbledon.

Ponks as a fellow sufferer of fatigue/stress/anxiety/depression I know how you feel and I absolutely swear by exercise as a mood-lifter even when it's the absolute last thing I feel up to doing! Hard though sometimes isn't it!

Overreaction, great going on 6w6p.

3steps where are you? Hope you are ok. You haven't been around on the thread for a while.

Just done a Turbo Jam workout; have also done a Davina and a KBAT this week - really mixing it up!

Keep it up everyone! Smile

Lavenderloves · 27/06/2013 12:17

Ladies can i join you please? I'm revisiting Jillian after a spell of sickness knocked me off track.
I'm going on holiday in two and half weeks and just need to tone up again. I'm starting with Shred and running (30mins a day)
I could do with loosing two inches from my waist (29") and a full body tone is in order. I have flabby arms and shoulders. :-( it's so not a good look.
I'm also limiting calories to 1600 a day until my hols.

Level one session four complete, it gets easier everyday! i need to up the weights

bettycocker · 27/06/2013 14:14

niceupthedance Good luck with the move.

Overreaction, I get twitchy when I miss a day. I know what you mean.

Happypiglet, how are you finding Ripped in 30? Hope you had a good time at Wimbledon.

Jacksterbear, you must be fit doing all those workouts. I get impatient doing yoga and pilates, but I do like them. It can be a bit slow and the instructors on the DVDs tend to be quite prissy and twee. I like the fact that Jillian doesn't mess about. It's a good, honest old fashioned workout.

Lavenderloves, if you're doing it 5 to 6 times a week, you should see a difference. Smile I have noticed a huge difference in my arms and shoulders. They are really ripped. In fact, I'm a tad worried about them getting bulky and manly looking. Unfortunately, the flab is still sticking around everywhere else.

I'm so sore and tired today. I'm going to force myself to do 6W6P later and then collapse in a sweaty heap!

Overreactionoftheweek · 28/06/2013 11:42

Day 5 6p6w done. I didn't do it yesterday cos I woke full of cold and with period pain - excuses, excuses! But dh pestered me into it today, for which I am very grateful!

I always struggle with motivation...I'm just lazy Grin but really want to be fit and healthy and carting around 3 extra stone is certainly not that. I can do more of the exercises already and definitely feel a bit more pulled in, which I think is amazing in just 5 work outs.

Really need to sort out my diet as that lets me down quite a bit, but it is improving bit by bit.

Hope everyone else is feeling motivated today

Ponks · 29/06/2013 10:59

Felt great doing Shred yesterday - even managed 10 full press ups . Still only doing L1 before I move up a gear.

lavender I think you'll find Shred etc make a huge difference to the tone of your arms. Mine look so much better now. Also even after just a few days of Shredding (after my mini injury break) my legs look more toned. Your comment about weights is so true - when it starts to feel easier Jillian doesn't let you coast does she, she encourages you to up the weights again! I am only up to 2kg but still drop to 1.5kg for the side lunges with front raises - find they are a killer on my arms.

notyummy · 29/06/2013 12:19

I have news! Dd at play date this morning so did 5 mile power walk and then thought that maybe, just maybe, I could try something other than callenetics! So did L1 Shred, cautiously (only 1.5 kg weights) and it felt fine. Think the surgeon may tell me off when I see him on Monday! Will see how I feel tomorrow...

Ponks · 29/06/2013 21:46

Good luck with the doc notyummy hopefully you will get the all-clear for more exercise. How is your back feeling day to day? Hope the op has helped you.

Moved up to L2 shred again today - felt really good. Pulled me out of a rut again. Think i have just got to fit the exercise in somehow as otherwise I start sinking mood-wise.

Jacksterbear · 30/06/2013 09:20

Yay notyummy! That's very exciting. Hope u are feeling ok today.

Good work Ponks and Overreaction.

May try to fit in something relatively gentle later, have a stinking cold so not on top form.

Overreactionoftheweek · 01/07/2013 10:28

Day 6 of6p6w done. I had a lazy weekend and felt like I was rubbish this morning, Jillian would've told me off for phoning it in! But at least I did it, and am now planning on getting back into it properly for the rest of the week.

Good luck at the dr's notyummy and well done ponks - I'm living in fear of moving up to level 2 of 6p6w!

Feel better soon jack
