Stop Bingeing and Start Eating Healthily Thread

Would anyone like to join me? I am a yo yo dieter, a failed WW (could not bear the small portions) failed SW (went wild on Free foods) and I eat too much of the wrong sorts of food. I binge then starve and I want to get out of that cycle. I also enjoy my evening 3 glass of wine a little too much! I feel bloated, pasty, tired and I hate how I look in the mirror. I am about to hit 40, and I refuse to spend any more time hating myself. I want to deal with my psychological food issues, and I want to finally be the woman I am meant to be.

I am 5 ft 2 and weigh 11 stone 3.

My aim- to increase fruit and veg. To cut out wheat as I bloat very badly on wheat. To take as much care over my own diet as I do over the diets of my children and my husband. To not treat my body like a rubbish bin.

As of this morning. I am tired. My skin is pale and blotchy. I am very bloated in the stomach. I am aiming to lose 24 pounds, but want to do it properly and without feeling deprived. I want to make this process luxurious, with a focus on gorgeous healthy food.

Today's plan:

Breakfast - fruit and natural yoghurt with a drizzle of honey.

Lunch - home made carrot and coriander soup.

Dinner - fresh veg risotto.

I need ideas for delicious alcohol-free drinks. Currently I love a splash of grapefruit juice and soda water.

Anyone want to join me? The focus is on good food, and to deal with the psychological issues around bingeing and self hatred. I am not a psychologist, just someone who needs- and can offer support!

Weigh in days will be Mondays and Thursdays.

Oh sorry- that possibly needs a reference... to MissEnglish's blog. There is a 30 day squat challenge. Day 1 - 50 squats.

50shadesofbrown · 12/04/2013 08:37

Hello Smile

not sure re: meal planning. I tried that on Myfitnesspal, Dh was about to cite it as co-respondent for divorce. Think I got a bit obsessed. Other issue is, I mostly like 'healthy' food eg salad, lentils etc, Dh is a carnivorous type, & Dd weaning so have 3 lots of food to organise. being lazy really, but food has become such a chore I often just skip it & then eat bad stuff later... Obvious trap really!

Anyway, today had porridge with skim milk & splodge of jam, tea with skim milk. Not always hungry for lunch so I'll see.

Off to work now.

BambieO · 12/04/2013 18:30

smellie I really want to do that but I'm frightened haha it looks so hard!

Emilythornesbff · 12/04/2013 21:00

Hey fellow revolutionaries.

Four days in and I am a self declared expert! Feeling very prematurely smug. I totally have it licked Grin

Avoided any food when I took ds out for his hot chocolate (I had a skinny cappuccino with sweetener, was v nice).

My current strategy is keeping refined carbs to a minimum (endured the smell of toast and pastiestoday without indulging), and eating small portions of good food.

Easy Grin I hope you'll all be here for me when I fall off the wagon Grin

Emilythornesbff · 12/04/2013 21:01

What's this squat challenge then?

50shadesofbrown · 12/04/2013 21:26

This morning weighed 11st 8lb, am 5'3 tall.

Sigh... Hate that I still crave sweets so much. I never used to until I started BF. Anyway:
Breakfast - skim milk porridge, jam.
Lunch - about 2/3 of a small portion of roast beef dinner at Morrisons.
Tea - 2 turkey rolls with gherkins, no spread. Baby carrots & low fat Hummus.
Snacks - pear, strawberries, low fat strawberry smoothie ice lolly.
Exercise - walked about 4 miles to work & back, to shops with Dd.
Not bad but could do better. I have decided the way to combat snacking is - knitting. Keeps the hands out of the biscuit tin...

Emilythornesbff · 12/04/2013 21:55

Wow 50 shades that's a good walk.
I keep reminding myself about the goal and repeating that well known mantra "nothing tastes as good as being slim feels"

Emilythornesbff · 13/04/2013 11:23

Hey.
Thought i'd try a fasting day (with the possibility of starting 5:2) to boost my weight loss.
I feel a bit hungry (had coffee with s.skim milk and 1 apple so far) but it's actually manageable. I plan to avoid lunch, drink lots of fruit tea / water and have homemade lentil soup (no fat in that) at supper time.
We'll see.
I think the fact that I'm just doing it for one day helps with the motivation. But I am v tired and peckish due to ebf my 11 week old dd

SmellieWellies · 13/04/2013 13:52

Morning all. 4 miles is a great walk 50shades!

Emily the squat challenge is in MissEngolish's blog link. You do it for 30 days, starting at 50 squats, and build up to about 240 or so! i did 55 today. It is fine, I am not stiff, but have to admit that my squats are not very deep. I have bad knees though..... (my excuse!)

I like being a revolutionary, Emily!

I am doing well so far today.
Bk- coffee with soy milk x 3 and 1 banana
Ln- tortilla wrap spread with a scraping of tahini with grated carrot, cucumber and radish.
Dn- will be boiled rice with sauteed veg and soy sauce.

no alcohol, but have just had 2 appeltisers.

have great days!

BambieO · 13/04/2013 14:07

smellie my knee is still temperemental too so I will give it a go and see how I get on!

Emilythornesbff · 13/04/2013 16:27

Oh smellie that squat challenge sounds tough! I don't think my knee would like that.
Must keep active. Although after my return to gym (see aibu "...waste of go's time") it's been slow.
Had a good walk to the park with DCs today.
Also, having a fasting day(a'la 5:2 style) today.
B: coffee and an apple.
L: ladle full of lentil broth. 2 cherry tomatoes.
D: planned for lentil broth.

Really wanted a yogurt earlier.
But it's just for one day. Tomorrow is roast beef day and I will forgo potatoes and yorkshires.
Good work everyone.

50shadesofbrown · 13/04/2013 19:43

Hi all. Effing starving today.
B - small pot of fruit yoghurt.
L - ryvitas, low fat Philadelphia, carrots & low fat Hummus.
T - chicken pasta bake.
However, caved at the garden centre, traumatised by Dh tales of 11m Dd doing a 'fountain of wee' on the changing table, then another one while stood on the floor as he wiped it up. Had a jam scone.
Exercise - mainly carrying Dd & choosing plants so I can make the yard more friendly to an almost walking baby.

Jeans are DEFINITELY looser than they used to be, I lost a stone before joining this thread but stalled in Feb when I got flu. So at least I have actual choices of clothes now, woohoo!

I did the 5:2 diet for a bit, didn't work for me as made my IBS worse, but it did shift a satisfying amount of flab. I might try it again when IBS calms down a bit.

twinklestar2 · 13/04/2013 22:34

Emily whats your lentil broth recipe, do you mind sharing?

Emilythornesbff · 14/04/2013 07:25

Hi twinkle
The soup is from the covent garden book of soup.
This makes 6 portions.

2 medium onions, 250g carrots, 110g red lentils (I rinse these in cold water), 1.7 litres gammon stock (I used veg stock), fresh ground black pepper. Fresh parsley to garnish.

Finely chop the onions and carrots.
Add all ingredients to pan.
Cover, bring to the boil and simmer for about 20 mins.

They say to liquidisers the soup (but I didn't. It was nice to have a bit of bite.) then garnish with chopped parsley.
It's going to be my fasting day staple.

50shadesofbrown · 14/04/2013 07:33

Ooh that recipe looks nice. I could make it & Dh could have it with bread as he is still resisting tackling his spare tyre, hopefully when he sees me losing weight he will be inspired to cut out some of the rubbish naughty food he eats as well.

Emilythornesbff · 14/04/2013 07:39

50 shades. Great jeans news! You're an inspiration.

If u r hungry and falling off the wagon maybe you're not eating enough.
When I see revitalise I think "diet and deprivation" Grin

Tip: on the Paul McKenna slim thing he says you should eat when you're hungry and only eat food you like. (IYSWIM. I know lots of ppl like ryvita). So the idea would be to enjoy tasty food, really concentrate on eating and enjoying it, eat slowly etc. so you can have something really nice and just eat much less of it (massively paraphrasing and probably misquoting) rather than the "filling up on free foods" type approach on most diets that is counter productive.
Em.

SmellieWellies · 14/04/2013 07:49

Morning all, that soup looks great Emily. I was planning on making a red lentil soup today, so will try that one.

No news here.

Emilythornesbff · 14/04/2013 09:47

Ryvita, of course, not revitalise (bloody obstinate autocorrect)

twinklestar2 · 14/04/2013 12:56

Thx for the soup recipe!

Have had a bad 36 hours food wise grrrr. Light day today!!

BambieO · 14/04/2013 17:47

Don't worry twinkle we all have days like that. I think the key is that we are all holding ourselves accountable for what we eat now. You should be glad you recognise a bad day or so, if you are anything like I was before I started it I would never have even acknowledged a bad day even if it included chips and chocolates!

We are all getting there and should be proud of our attitudes- go us!!! Team thin team thin! Grin

SlimFitWellies · 14/04/2013 18:13

[Sigh]

Have nc again as need a bit of extra motivation.

Have gone back to my starve-binge cycle.... now in binge mode.

Cannot stop myself today so will regroup tomorrow.

SlimFitWellies · 14/04/2013 18:13

Team thin!!!!!

[love that :) ]

Emilythornesbff · 14/04/2013 18:57

Ooh love "team slim" Bambio. Good points you make too.
slimfitwellies gotta stop starving. How about a paul McKenna hypno session? Or having a larger, protein filled breakfast?
How bad is your binge? It's only one day. You can restart tomorrow.

Today:
Bf- porridge (made with water, sweetened with cinnamon and half a banana.
L- small Caesar salad (starter portion as I took ds put for pizza)
D- roast beef, 1 roast potato, NO yorkshires and lots of cabbage. I did then have a mini magnum and half a homemade cupcake (no topping) as I needed to test it for tomorrow's bake sale.
Wondering when next to do a fasting day.
Maybe Tuesday.

Don't think I'm up to the squat challenge. Might just do 50 a day plus some abs, press ups and stretching. Don't want to set myself up to fail.

Emilythornesbff · 14/04/2013 18:58

Oh, add two apples to that. (secret eater obviously)

BambieO · 14/04/2013 18:59

Loving the name change! Don't worry, it's hard to stay on the straight and narrow, you are doing so well. Tomorrow is another day like you say :)

I am having a very unhealthy takeaway for dinner today as I haven't really had time to eat anything today other than a slice of Ham Blush equally as unhealthy not eating enough so I though b-locks to it I'm going to enjoy my dinner and not beat myself up
