New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

Argh, got a huge bruise from falling off the wagon already. Did really well with full fat Greek yogurt for breakfast, smoked salmon salad with lashings of full fat low carb French dressing and then I had bad news and I'm tired from my first day back in work from maternity so had a load of chocolate and toast.

I've also had the squirts today quite badly. Is that the lack of carbs (prior to tonight) and if so will that go away?

SoleSource · 02/01/2013 21:04

Might be the sudden change in food choices Hug.

Prolific

Yes there is evidence that sweetners impede weight loss. Plus in boot camp we are trying to break sugar addiction

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2013 21:15

Hug people people report sometimes quite extreme toilet changes early on but it settles quickly. Sorry to hear about your bad news.

Re sweeteners - we as trying to break the addiction to sweet foods and most sweeteners with the exception of truvia are not natural products. BIWI had some links about it somewhere. They are however carb free so some people use them if they really need to... I personally do use them in stuff as I am diabetic and even small teeny amounts of sugar send my blood sugars soaring out of control!

LucyVFood · 02/01/2013 21:20

Day one. I've got headache (could be cold) and I really want a glass of wine. I don't actually feel that hungry though! Great to see people on MFP too, even though it told me I had 60g of carbs today Angry

Still can't get my head around the butter/cheese/cream thing though.

DharmaBumpkin · 02/01/2013 21:24

Day Two! Carb headaches gone thank goodness! And when 'D'H was talking about which chocolate he'd like - after putting the kids to bed which is historically my key binge time - I didn't feel the urge to instantly eat great quantities of any chocolate whatsoever, which is new for me!

B: smoked salmon & butter scrambled eggs
L: Homemade chicken soup & full fat Greek Yoghurt
D: Sausages with broccoli, carrots & butter mushrooms.

Does anyone have favourite quick & easy sauce suggestions to go with vegetables? It's the only thing I'm really missing, I find the veges just a bit too boring plain.

MulledwineGless · 02/01/2013 21:34

Dharma
I fry them in butter or roast broccoli in chilli flakes and olive oil
Sauces - garlic and cream with herbs depending on main meal or splash is brandy and mustard

On my phone So can't link properly but google www.yourlighterside.com and a blog called I live,I breathe both good for low carb recipes

Have you checked recipe thread?
There is a really nice salmon and feta bake in the IPD cookbook too

TinTinsSexySister · 02/01/2013 21:38

Oh Lordy, iPad won't let me cut and paste to add my name but I'm in.

I was on a few of the earlier threads and lost a stone and a half, which I've managed to maintain for several months. Christmas has been the undoing however.

Thought we weren't starting until the 7th though? Confused...

Doshusallie · 02/01/2013 21:42

Prolific - although I now have my coffee and tea decaf and black, I have never stopped adding sweeteners- couln't drink it without.

Doshusallie · 02/01/2013 21:43

Official start is 7th tin tin - some have started earlier is all....

froufroulala · 02/01/2013 21:45

I'm hungry Sad

MulledwineGless · 02/01/2013 21:48

More water?

What low carb snacks have you got in?
Celery and cream cheese
Cucumber and cream cheese
Cucumber and slices of cheddar
Pâté and celery or cucumber
Slice of ham or salami with Philly in

MulledwineGless · 02/01/2013 21:49

Froufroula - what have you eaten today-apols if already posted

hurricanewyn · 02/01/2013 21:54

Dharma - what about a cheese sauce? Melted cream cheese & some double cream to thin it out. Parsey sauce?

Willie - hats off to you with the spreadsheet this time around.

Re coconut oil - I get a tub of it from my local asian supermarket. Only £2 for 500ml. It's fab - I use it for everything - moisturiser, in my hair & for cooking. I get coconut flour there too.

froufroulala · 02/01/2013 21:56

Scrambled eggs for B. Ham, brocolli & cauliflower homemade soup for L. Chicken breast, rocket, watercress with chilli olive oil for D. Bovril, black tea/coffee & loads of water.

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2013 21:57

We mostly cover our veg with lashings of that butter full if sea salt crystals. Or roast them and add salt, pepper, garlic and herbs. I know others make a cheese sauce sometimes...

MulledwineGless · 02/01/2013 21:59

From, looks fine. By did you use butter in scrambled eggs and what fat content was in yr soup? Swirl of double cream?

If you are hungry now then eat. Once you are in ketosis you won't feel hungry and no cravings in between meals _ I promise!

MulledwineGless · 02/01/2013 22:00

Froufrou- Apols for all the typos

ChristmasJubilee · 02/01/2013 22:01

Can I use herbs and spices?

Sweetiesmum · 02/01/2013 22:02

Am in too, I have 20 kg to lose this yr if poss. Currently 85kg Pre-kids=65kg
I think carrots may be very high carb, Dharma
P.S. My lil princess AKA 'Sweetie' above, has been known to bash up her big bros
If u r hungry, froufrou eat cucumber, lil tomatoes, sweet red capsicum, and cheese cubes, or something low carb

Prolificmincepiebreeder · 02/01/2013 22:02

Thanks all, when I did dukan I used sweeteners and drank diet fizzy drinks. These are my downfall! I am really missing sugar. I have a few vanilla products to look at one I know is sugar free but the brown pots I'm not sure I'm sure I read up thread they were bad!
I've drank nearly 2 litres of water today which is amazing for me. 2 black decaf coffees though. I don't have cream and only had semi skimmed milk. Might get some cream in though. single or double?

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2013 22:03

Christmas - yes, I can't think of any that would be out of bounds! I have learnt to make using so many spices I have never used before and it is delicious!

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 22:04

Do sweeteners stop you from losing weight?

There is some suggestion that they do, although this is disputed. Here's a blog post by Dr John Briffa about it

There are two reasons for avoiding them on Bootcamp. First, we're trying to break the addiction to sugar, therefore by avoiding eating sweet things we can help to do this. Second, they are artificial, and we are trying to eat natural, 'clean' foods.
