New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

Gosh this thread moves fast! Started bootcamp today as I couldn't wait. Weighed in at 16st 8.5oz. Had scrambled egg for breakfast, ham, broccoli & cauliflower homemade soup for lunch, chicken breast with rocket & watercress leaves & a drizzle of chilli olive oil for dinner. Tea/coffee black no sugar & loads of water. Is that ok? Cannot stand butter & something on the tv last night has put me right off my butter substitutes & after dry frying for many years cannot change that but will try to increase olive oil/cream usage. This thread is wonderful & so helpful, my first goal is to reach 14st & then do c25km along side the lc. Husband is trying to continue to put weight on so we will help each other.

Lavenderhoney · 02/01/2013 19:01

Does low carving go with an exercise regime? I havent thought about that as much as I have worried what to have for breakfast:)

PrincessSparkle86 · 02/01/2013 19:02

BIWI MFP is just second nature for me now...been doing it for so long! im meant to keep a food diary of what i eat anyway for my IBS so it helps...im not using it to calorie count but its good to keep check of my portion sizes and adding in my walks :) my friends on there are very supportive also!

I also am quite shocked at how busy these threads are now!

MulledwineGless · 02/01/2013 19:06

Cocolepew - do you like Bovril?
I generally have a cup a day to keep potassium/salt levels up

cocolepew · 02/01/2013 19:14

I've never tried ut but I'll give it a go. If I don't like it DH does. He just told me its like watery oxtail soup, so I should be ok.

Had a spirited discussion Hmm with DH. His workmate was poo pooing low carbing, he's a gym freak. Told Dh I'd get Diabetes if I did it. I told DH I would get it if I didn't do this. He looked surprised, I'm sure he never listens to a word I say.

OTTMummA · 02/01/2013 19:21

Low carb is GOOD for diabetes! my GP also puts some people on the CD as it is low carb/cal and their insulin levels regulate and improve within weeks.
I have PCOS and went on CD in october 2011, lost 1st in 4 weeks and then fell pregnant Grin.

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 19:22

cocolepew - he may be a gym freak, but he's behind the times! Many trainers now advocate low carb eating. They may talk about Primal or Paleo eating - it's essentially the same thing.

And he is ignorant to boot. It's the carbohydrates (which result in loads of sugar being dumped into the blood stream) that are ultimately responsible for diabetes.

Well so far today I've had:

B: Egg and tomato salad with mayonnaise
L: Cheese salad
D: Gammon with creamed leeks and cabbage

Snacks: full fat total yoghurt with vanilla and 1 coffee with cream.

Not felt hungry although did have a sugar craving but the yoghurt and vanilla stopped that.

SoleSource · 02/01/2013 19:24

I have fookin PCOS it is a real nuisance and it LOVES carbs to hurt me.

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 19:26

The issue of carbohydrates and diabetes is a controversial one however (like most things about carbohydrates, it would seem!). Dr John Briffa writes a lot about it, and he's written an interesting blog about it here

I've been finding myself hungry a lot today, which perhaps isn't a surprise, given the amount of carbohydrate that has passed my lips over the last two weeks!

cocolepew · 02/01/2013 19:31

I have ordered him to go in and put him right! I was told by my woo woman to cut the carbs in the summer to help my insulin resistance, DH knew this. He's now sitting smirking because I'm reading out the replies Grin.

cocolepew · 02/01/2013 19:32

I had some soup it was lovely. I used Knorr simply stock, it was the only thing without sugar in it. I reckon I could use that just as a soup Hmm. It's utterly ridiculous how many things have sugar in them.

OTTMummA · 02/01/2013 19:41

I had gestational diabetes in my first pregnancy, the worst culprits to spike my sugar levels were bready things such as sandwhiches and pizza.
As soon as i cut out white bread and flour my levels steadied and i didn't have to end up taking medication.
I have a long standing love affair with carbs, over christmas i have been indulging in fresh bread and cheese with pickles and crackers Blush
I am officially going to start on the 7th as we are celebrating 2 family birthdays at the weekend and i have been looking forward to going to this restaurant for 6 months ( haven't been out for food since DD came along ) but will gradually reduce over the next few days so carb withdrawl doesn't hit me as hard on monday.

Doshusallie · 02/01/2013 20:12

A lovely tea (pork chops, Brussels sprouts, leeks and cabbage cooked with bacon and butter) and 2 table spoons of Greek yog. No booze!!! Day two of my dry month.

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 20:28

So my day:

No breakfast (trying a bit of intermittent fasting over the next few days, until we start again on Monday)
Early lunch - scrambled eggs and smoked salmon
Snack - cucumber and cream cheese/cucumber with pate, piece of cheese whilst cooking dinner
Dinner - roast chicken leg (with the skin from DH and DS2s!), green salad with shallot vinaigrette, roasted cauliflower, spinach in garlic butter, roasted peppers

Have had 4 coffees today, which is more than I really want; am aiming for two per day.

Currently two-thirds of the way through my 2 litres of water; might manage 2.5 today.

And also no alcohol!

I'm joining. Lost 9lb in about 3 weeks last year then had a bit of a mental wobble and everything fell apart. Toast is my demon, along with quality street and bloody chocolate digestives. Gained back the weight, but somehow it looks worse than it did before. I'm ttc this year and have a lot of weight to lose.

Downloading MFP now.

Stylelostinlabour · 02/01/2013 20:31

Quick question I have some of this in the fridge left over from Christmas can I eat it or not?

WhoTookMyDough · 02/01/2013 20:35

Eggs, chorizo and mushrooms

Leftover roast chicken, with leaves, olives and sundried toms (just two) and artichoke hearts

Omlette with blue cheese, broccoli on the side.

Lush :)

Good news is that I'm almost a stone lighter than I thought. Still overweight though (no pathological body dysmorphism here) - 11st 2. Want to get down to 9 st if I can, by spring.

MulledwineGless · 02/01/2013 20:40

Style - I can't see the link

B - bacon egg and mushrooms
L- chicken breast with 5 spices sprinkled on and salad with dollop of mayo
D roast chicken with skin on, buttered cabbage, sports and a few carrots.

It's amazing how sweet carries taste compared to the other veg

Also had cheese on slices of cucumber as a snack as starving
2.5 litres of water so far but been on lemsip as ill and it's so sweet

Rooobs · 02/01/2013 20:46

ugh. Day 1. Have felt sluggish and headachey all day.

And now I could MURDER a wee bit of chocolate Sad

Have had plenty of water (about 2 litres)

Time to go to bed I think.

Stylelostinlabour · 02/01/2013 20:46

Sorry it contains this

Loving food at ASDA. A selection of three favour meat delicacies from Spain - Spicy Chorizo Picante (Spanish paprika and cayenne), 11 month cured Serrano Ham, Lomo Curado.

Prolificmincepiebreeder · 02/01/2013 20:53

I had to share with you that I had double cream, bacon, sprouts and broccoli with my roasted ham tonight. It was lovely!
Still getting sugar cravings but its day one! I never knew I was this addicted to sugar!
Do sweeteners stop you losing weight? I know they are artificial and we are avoiding that I just want to know if that's the only reason we are avoiding them.

MulledwineGless · 02/01/2013 20:55

Style sounds fine to me. We are eating clean and sometimes too much processed food can stall but eat em up!

Dosh - well done on day 2. Proud of you, gel ;)

Cocolepew- get DH to send his work mate a link to this blog

Prolificmincepiebreeder · 02/01/2013 20:58

That was meant to be underlined!
