New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

Do you know way I really love about LCing? It's the almost instant relief from the belatedness and sluggishness that happens when you ditch the wheat and the sugar, within 24 to 48 hours. Even before I've lost any actual weight I start to be thinner around the middle.

FellatioNelson · 02/01/2013 07:08

belatedness? That should have said belatedness. I do wish my autocorrect would mind its own bloody business and let me choose my own words. Hmm

GreenyEyes · 02/01/2013 07:21

Grin at belatedness

I know exactly what you mean though, after a couple of days wheatless, my waist comes back.

I spent boxing day night in agony with stomach cramps

GreenyEyes · 02/01/2013 07:25

Clare I don't overdo the salads when it's cold, so I'll be eating cheesy/ creamy veg.

I can eat anything once you've fried the arse off it in butter tbh

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 02/01/2013 07:38

I am having a slow start this week - just trying to get in to the LC mindset.

Today I have had bacon, mushrooms and egg fried in a little butter for breakfast, have made a ham salad for lunch with a dollop of garlic and onion dip and a pot of veg soup for tea - possibly with chicken breast and veg/ratatouille if it doesnt fill me up.
Pint of no added sugar squash done and 1.5 litre bottle of water for work. Going to try and give the cappuccino a miss and do black coffee if I can.

Am I generally along the right lines? I know ham is not the greatest as its processed and I have no idea about the dip as the packaging had gone - just trying to use up the last of the bad stuff!

hurricanewyn · 02/01/2013 07:53

Morning all. Hope everyone's doing well today.
I had a chicken & bacon omlette for dinner yesterday and it was lovely. But now we've finally finished Sunday's roast chicken so I need to think of something else for dinner tonight. Possibly homemade burgers as there's mince in the fridge.

Taffy - someone more knowledgable will be along later, but that looks fine to me. Ham's not that much different to bacon, so that's fine. Just keep an eye on the carbs in your dip, maybe?

hurricanewyn · 02/01/2013 07:55

Can you remember where you bought it? I can check on myfitnesspal if you like.

I can say I used to buy the Aldi onion & garlic dip and that was relatively low carb.

ArfAPandaTreacle · 02/01/2013 08:18

Day 3. 2lb lost.

How long does carb flu last? Feel terrible. Shaky, dizzy, tired muscles.

GreenyEyes · 02/01/2013 08:25

Not long Arf, hang in there.

You'll feel great once it's gone

musicmusicmusic · 02/01/2013 08:30

Can I join? I need to lose 2.5 stone. Planning to run a < 2hr half marathon in April too (2hr 2mins last time)

Fellatio how did you check if you were in ketosis? This is the first time I've ever done low carbing so am learning as I go!

Eggs scrambled in butter with smoked salmon for brekkie today. Yum!

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 08:34

Arf you should be through the worst very soon. You need salt and potassium - add some/more salt to your food, or drink some hot Bovril/Marmite/Oxo, and eat some salmon/avocado.

Taffy - apart from the dip, which you need to check, the other red flag is the squash. It may be no added sugar, but it does have some in it and, more importantly, it is full of artificial ingredients which we are trying to avoid in Bootcamp.

Fellatio - absolutely agree with you! And well done on such a speedy start!!! Grin

Felt dreadful last night when I went to bed, with the bloating and generally feeling 'meh' about myself. Glad to be back on the wagon.

OP posts:
ArfAPandaTreacle · 02/01/2013 08:37

I'll do that now thank you.

Although it feels strange to make an oxo drink when my body is shouting for a sweet one. Grin

sybilfaulty · 02/01/2013 08:42

Right I am back in. I ate some white bread last night, as I used to love it so much. Now, the butter was tasty but the bread not so much. Am glad to be back to my normal WOE. And, thankfully, the christmas cake has all gone (but not so thankfully some of it was into me!)

Now need to get dressed and then do breakfast. eggs. Yum.

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2013 08:45

Arf, and others, remember there is also a lot of colds about at moment so there is always the possibility you might actually get a cold! Also I found adding salt and taking a multi-vitamin helped me a lot.

ScillyCow · 02/01/2013 08:46

OK so an update - on day 7 today and was 2 lbs down.

Still feel MUCH better - loads of energy, clothes looser - but I thought the weight loss at the start was usually the most and I have STONES to lose!

Humancatapult yes was soda water.

Still am sticking to it.
Grin

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2013 08:46

Sybil know exactly what you mean about the butter being nice but not the bread. I now sometimes have a bit of butter on a slice of cheddar or cucumber when I fancy it!

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2013 08:48

Sciliy stick with it, it will whoosh off at some point, it sounds like you've lost inches and are doing brilliantly! Maybe measure yourself too weekly?

topsi · 02/01/2013 08:52

I am going to get back on the wagon after a slightly carby Xmas and new year. Was my sons BD yesterday and he insisted on McD's for tea and I partook which I don't usually.
Having my usual breki of blue berries and yogurt this morn. I have found some of Tesco's meals quite helpful, chicken wrapped in bacon stuffed with cheese and a similar fish one as well, both very low carb.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/01/2013 08:52

Morning all. Brew

I think I'm going to find it difficult to keep up with you all!

Cutting down from today, hopefully easing the way and avoiding the carb withdrawal and cravings. And I am starting with full on boot camp, so no gin.

ArfAPandaTreacle · 02/01/2013 08:54

BIWI is Barocca allowed in this diet?

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 08:54

Are you scales accurate enough, Scilly? If your clothes are looser it would suggest that you have lost more than 2lbs!

And the thing to remember, is that everyone is different. It's not a competition. Although we are sharing our experiences, it's all about you, and your body will do things differently from everyone else - because you will be eating/drinking/exercising differently from everyone else as much as anything.

The key thing to focus on is that you are losing weight. And try to visualise it - 2lbs is 4 packs of lard, if that helps Grin

ScillyCow · 02/01/2013 09:00

Thanks BIWI. I have digital scales so I think OK there.

WIll try to drink more water today. Also, my appetite has gone! Hopefully the precursur to pounds and pounds melting away over the next few days!

DharmaBumpkin · 02/01/2013 09:04

Grrr have checked my stats from yesterday(am using MFP) and I was on 52g of carbohydrates! And I thought I had done so well! How on earth do you all get it under 30g?!

And would also like to know what the story is with cream, as in the rules Biwi posted dairy should be minimised apart from butter, but a lot of posters mention eating cream... Does it not count as dairy?

Right ,have added myself to the list, weighed this morning, am 11 stone 12.5 lb's , 5 foot 6 inches tall and would like to be below 10 stone by easter.

I know I feel better on LC as wheat gives me indigestion and bloating almost instantly. DH is joining me on low carb as it suits his carnivorous lifestyle.

Good luck everyone. Smile
