New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

Great info BIWI. Inspiring. Thank you.

HumphreyCobbler · 01/01/2013 20:04

goodness I have had a spectacular fall off the wagon. Much worse than Christmas....

Back to normal tomorrow. I am very much looking forward to being in ketosis again, just for the lovely calm, healthy and happy feeling I get I could do without the stinking breath which I get however much water I drink

I keep reading stuff about 'fad' diets that mention low carb. It is rather getting on my nerves now but I am resisting posting due to the fact I have had no sleep and am premenstrual. I am having pmt due to eating carbs again

DharmaBumpkin · 01/01/2013 20:05

Day one done! All seemed super easy... Until about 3 o'clock. Stuck it out though, will have to find some yummy sauces to go over veges as I missed being able to have red and brown sauce over everything!

Thanks for the info Ilove and Biwi.

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 01/01/2013 20:23

Other things that low carbing can help with:

PCOS
acne
thrush
IBS
hot flushes
PMT

are all things that have been reported by low carbers. Add any others to the list!

OP posts:
Doshusallie · 01/01/2013 20:39

Related to IBS maybe but I am ALOT less windy since eating this way. Don't get the shakes when I'm hungry. Feel fuller for longer.

cocolepew · 01/01/2013 20:45

When I came iff sugar/wheat before it helped my sinuses, headaches, fatigue, joint/muscle pain.

cocolepew · 01/01/2013 20:46

I'm definitely not as hungry Hmm I'm not craving carbs, yet...

NoveltySlippers · 01/01/2013 20:50

Evening all

Thanks BIWI for a very interesting post. After this week I finally understand the role/action of insulin now - has taken me years I think to get my head round it!

I've started the Zoe Harcombe Phase 1 today, which is very similar to boot camp except she allows a small amount of oats in water, or very small amount of brown rice (not both in same day). Am a bit Hmm a oats in water. And although I already drink decaff tea, having it without milk will be a real challenge! Shock

So far today I've had:

B:
Two rashers bacon
Two eggs
Tomatoes fried in butter

(NB. This was delicious and I didn't miss bread at all!)

L:
Roast chicken leg with skin
Lettuce and cucumber

Snack:
Two spoons full fat Greek yoghurt

Haven't had dinner yet but the weird thing is......am not hungry! I've only had 11g of carbs.

Considering I'm hungover and would normally be stuffing my face with an sausage bap for brekkie, a baguette for lunch and pasta for dinner.....am feeling surprising chipper!

thekitchenfairy · 01/01/2013 20:54

Sorry @Chocberry, i struggled doing a copy &paste think I chopped you off accidentally.

Right, I have read through it all plus the links and spreadsheet... Sorry but I have a few questions for your more experienced minds :-)

I am 38, 5'1... I weigh 10.6.... Eeeeek.....

a well being check at my gym found I have dangerously high visceral fat, recommended a doctor check and told to assess my diet, reduce carbs and cut out cheese. I have a family history of heart disease and am quite alarmed. Why did it take so long to notice the spare stomach that does not sink when i lie down....?

I have done WW for years, tho not v successfully the past few as it has slowly gone up and up! I think I get nowhere near enough good fat, rely too much on low fat and crap fat cakes WW things for treats. Hmmm.

i am determined to do bootcamp, i feel like this can help me reset my sugar cravings, But can I get this WOE to work if I should avoid dairy, especially cheese? I think I get the part about fat being necessary, but could I have, say, avocado daily? I am v worried that without cheese I just won't have the mettle to see this through.

Sorry for such a long post!

ToffeePenny · 01/01/2013 21:07

I've been chopped off the list!

ToffeePenny · 01/01/2013 21:09

Shouldn't Biwi be on it too?

OMG watching '50 shocking facts about diet and exercise' and they just mentioned that most bread have chicken feathers in it!!! Another reason not to eat it!!! Also the rules on listing its ingredients are less strict!!!

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 01/01/2013 21:34

thekitchenfairy - you can eat cheese! Just don't go mad. The only thing about dairy is to be aware that some people find that it impedes their weight loss. But nothing to say that it necessarily will apply to you. Just try it and see.

OP posts:
berryfreeze · 01/01/2013 22:10

Hi have been watching these threads for ages, and have done quite well on low carbing in the past, this xmas have totally indulged and also trying to give up smoking, is it possible to do the two together!!!!!! Want to add myself to list but can not do it from phone.

thenightsky · 01/01/2013 22:19

Bread has chicken feathers in???? seriously??? What's all that about then? [confused

AuntieMaggie · 01/01/2013 22:25

They're used as an 'improver' for flour so also may be in cake, biscuits and other flour products... [yuk]

clare8allthepies · 01/01/2013 22:27

I'm definitely in from Monday, god knows how much I've put on over the last 3 weeks but I think its not far off a stone Blush
Can anyone recommend me some stuff to eat thats not bloody salad ( before christmas it felt like that was all I was eating!)
Will add myself to list tomorrow when I'm on laptop
Clare x

Rooobs · 02/01/2013 00:26

ach, the chicken feathers have done us no harm so far Smile

clare, I was SICK of salad pre crimbo. Now I'm thinking buttered kale or pak choi with soy and olive oil. Plus protein obviously.

Teeb · 02/01/2013 00:39

I'm looking forward to starting on Monday Smile

I'll be going shopping in the next couple of days and was wondering if eating the same foods might stall the weight loss or not? Say I was to have the exact same breakfast/dinner every single day of the week? Will eating a variety of different meals have much of an impact on the weight loss?

Sorry for lots of questions, just hoping to do this in the best possible way and to stick to it!

GreenyEyes · 02/01/2013 06:41

Teeb I don't think it makes any difference, I've probably gone weeks eating the same thing for breakfast everyday

Variety will prevent you getting fed up of course, but if you're happy with it abs it's low carb, I'd stick with it

TheHumancatapult · 02/01/2013 06:56

Scilly

When You say soda You mean soda water or fizzy ( i tend use soda to mean fizzy drinks)because either of them do affect my weight loss

FellatioNelson · 02/01/2013 07:01

Yay! I have lost three pounds this morning. Not sure if in keto yet. Hang on, will look.

FellatioNelson · 02/01/2013 07:03

Yes! Not even 'trace', either. Grin
