New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

Morning all. Have a strong resolution to get back to normal eating and have planned all meals as a result. Think I am getting whatever bug DH has got, so have done the livestock in my pjs and am back in bed. The DC are watching tv

I often use lo-salt if I think I need a potassium uptake, I find it very helpful.

ArfAPandaTreacle · 02/01/2013 09:11

Does anyone know is Berocca allowed?
Thanks!

SingingTunelessly · 02/01/2013 09:13

Morning all!

arf quite a few of us on here have Berroca. I find its an easy way to get the first pint of water down in the morning.

Can't believe how relieved I am to be back LCing. The bloating and tiredness has been the worse part of Christmas/NY. Even DH said this morning 'I am definitely doing your low carbing Bootcamp thingy with you and your Internet friends' Grin

Right.

B: Bacon, mushrooms, tomato and fried egg. Pint of Berroca, coffee with double cream.

Back later. Hope we all have a good day.

BettyandDon · 02/01/2013 09:14

I'm joining:

11.2 stone- only 5ft1- had baby a month ago, getting married in the summer...I need to lose 2 stone at least as quick as possible. I havn't even started looking at dresses yet.

Strangely looking forward to it after carb loading in my pregnancy. Off to read the thread for some motivation!

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2013 09:15

Dharma some things on MFP not always accurate as user added. Post what you ate and we'll see if we can help, although 50g is low carb btw...

BettyandDon · 02/01/2013 09:15

Already seen berocca suggestion. That's a good one considering I get hardly any sleep with a newborn and a night waking toddler...

ArfAPandaTreacle · 02/01/2013 09:28

Thats great! I love my Berocca!

LucyVFood · 02/01/2013 09:30

Right, I drank the last of the port and Baileys last night, so am ready to get on it.

I need help though. According to the spreadsheet I need to drink about 4 litres of water a day Shock Blush Wow, that's a lot of water. Not sure I can fit it in, especially at work. I don't have the type of job where I can go to the loo all the time.

My normal diet approach is to take cereal bars/instant porridge to work for breakfast, then to have instant soup and fruit for lunch. That's not going to work though, is it? The porridge has about 45g carbs, the bars 25g. The soup's not too bad though. Can anyone give me some suggestions for low-carbs at work? We have a kettle and fridge but no microwave. Thanks!

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 09:31

dharma - list out for us what you've been eating and let's see if we can help. There have been some odd counts with MFP in the past! And we're not aiming for a specific carb count, just getting the carbs down so that you're losing weight! 52g carbs isn't that bad, in the great scheme of things.

OP posts:
BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 09:33

Oh - and re dairy - it is allowed or even encouraged on a low carb diet, but some people do find that they have issues with it, and it can impede weight loss. The only way to find out if it affects you is to try it! Yoghurt is better tolerated (full fat, obviously Grin), so if cream is an issue, you may still be able to use yoghurt.

OP posts:
JenaiMorris · 02/01/2013 09:37

I think the only issue with Berocca is the sweetness. It's sugar-free but if you're trying to wean yourself off sweet flavours it might not be terribly helpful. There are those who claim that artificial sweeteners can impede weight loss, too (although I don't know the thinking behind that).

Thanks MrsHerculePoirot

Breakfast : smoothie with
100g berries
150g full fat Greek yoghurt
200g soya milk (unsweetened of course!)

10am Cup of tea with milk, no sugar

Lunch : Chicken & vegetable soup with 65g cheese

3pm: butter fried mushrooms with a scrambled egg

Dinner : roast chicken breast with skin on, vegetables (broccoli, carrots, 5 Brussels!

And having listed all of those, I bet it was the soup... As it was the first day, I used shop bought (DH made one for me last night from the chicken carcass. Will go check!

cocolepew · 02/01/2013 09:39

Congratulations on your baby BettyandDon Smile

Morning everyone, well done to all you losers!

I can't get my scales to work, I must have broke them standing on them Shock

Feel like a sack of shit today. Sore head, nauseous, sore sinuses, bowel cramps, pain in pelvis and legs Sad.

Having 2 cold susages for breakfast, and have my chicken and leek soup on cooking.

Back to work tomorrow so hope I feel a bit better by then. It's only a training day so maybe I could sleep at the back Grin

DharmaBumpkin · 02/01/2013 09:40

Thanks Biwi. I thought I was meant to be aiming for 30g, so if 52 is okay then I'll settle for that, it's a sustainable way to eat with the kids & DH too.

Cream would be useful to make yummy sauces, chicken breast with veg is filing but not satisfying!

MulledwineGless · 02/01/2013 09:42

Morning losers!
I am back on the wagon officially. Just been through the fridge and cupboards and thrown everything out apart from DH mountain of crisps (which I couldn't eat another one of) and DC sweets (ditto)

I just had another thought - Measure yourself before you start.
Scilly yours is a really good case that you don't always show loss on the scales but you can on your clothes. Your body will change shape and look leaner even if you haven't lost weight.

Also those who are starting to exercise at the same time remember that muscle weighs heavier than fat so as your body changes you need to give yourself a few weeks for the difference to show on the scales.

Onwards and downwards..

caramelwaffle · 02/01/2013 09:44

Good morning all.

BIWI makes a good point about dairy; a little bit can make a nice difference to a meal i.e. a splash of cream in cooked leeks but not everyone can tolerate it for weight loss.

I have done 6lb worth of damage over Christmas/New year so am getting back in to Bootcamp light from today until monday. 2 litres of water and 1 litre of herbal tea included.

Happy New everyone.

MulledwineGless · 02/01/2013 09:45

Dharma - I like the Idiot Proof Diet cookbook - some really good recipes which are family friendly

Oh. Apologies for double post.

mumat39 · 02/01/2013 09:46

Morning everyone. I decided to weigh myself this morning and I wish I hadn't!
I'm truly disgusted at myself.

So my weight is 12st 12.6lbs. Sad. And that will probably go up once my body has laid down even more fat from the last few days of gorging. I'm 5'6" so not that tall.

So this morning I had some Greek yogurt for breakfast. I'm not starting properly until the 7th but think what some of you are doing to get into it this week is a really good idea? So I'm starting with baby steps.

Physically I feel not too hungry but mentally I'm starving and want to eat carbs. I am my own worst enemy. Even though I feel disgusted at myself I feel like I need to console myself with stuff that I know I shouldn't have. Is that what emotional eating is?

I really don't think I'm quite right in the head!

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 02/01/2013 09:49

Right Dharma, thinking about Bootcamp:

100g berries fruit is not allowed in the first two weeks of Bootcamp
150g full fat Greek yoghurt did you check the carb count?
200g soya milk (unsweetened of course!) did you check the carb count?

Your breakfast alone will have contributed a fair number of carbs to your overall day

10am Cup of tea with milk, no sugar

Lunch : Chicken & vegetable soup with 65g cheese What veg? Do you know the carb count of the veg that you used?

3pm: butter fried mushrooms with a scrambled egg

Dinner : roast chicken breast with skin on, vegetables (broccoli, carrots, 5 Brussels! Carrots are pretty carby - best avoided on Bootcamp, at least in the first two weeks

And having listed all of those, I bet it was the soup... As it was the first day, I used shop bought (DH made one for me last night from the chicken carcass. Will go check! You should be fine here - even if it was shop-bought, any sugar/carbs will have been contained (mainly) in the skin I would think

Hope this helps!

Re daily levels of carbs - Bootcamp rules are designed to make low carbing easy to do, and weighing/counting (IMVHO) only make something faffy and irritating. If you were doing Atkins induction, which is the strictest phase of Atkins and probably closest to Bootcamp, you would be aiming to restrict carbs to 20g per day. If you were following Dr Charles Clark's plan, you would be looking to achieve 40-60g per day.

Ultimately we all have to work out what level of carbs per day will result in weight loss for us all. I would certainly advocate that you look to the lower end of those figures for the first fortnight of Bootcamp, as this will have speedy results as well as really help to get you into the zone, and get your head around low carbing.

I meant tO add that I weigh now what I did when I was very heavily pregnant with dc1 when she was 2 weeks overdue and finally arrived weighing in at 9lbs. Shock.

caramelwaffle · 02/01/2013 09:58

mumat39 Stick with us and it will be onwards and downwards from here.

escape · 02/01/2013 10:04

Hi guys!
Signing up!
Please help ..
Where to start
Weigh approx 17st :(
5ft 8ins - size 18 in clothes
Felt huge at 14.5 st... Lord knows how I got this big
Huge wobble tummy - look 8 mths pregnant constantly
Always had lumpy thighs and legs -
Was always a healthy 12 as a teen etc - met hubby at 21 and put 2 stone on after moving in with him
am a t a healthy size at 11.5 stone - size 12, but seems like forever ago!!
I am 34 btw - I work from home and am an emotional eater.
An intelligent & rational person, I understand there are no excuses, what to eat/what not to eat - lately though I am constantly starving - my exercise level is ZERO
If I saw a good start, I am pretty sure it would motivate me on, I understand no quick fixes, but would react really well to an initial good start loss wise..
