New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

Looks lovely scilly - did you have butter on your veg, and oil on your salad? You can have too much cheese, but you're probably ok (I think Atkins says 2-3 ounces?)

Also, did you enjoy eating it? Grin

Was doing really well on low carb and then fell off the wagon. Need to drop a dress size at least.

ScillyCow · 30/12/2012 19:45

Mmmmm. Yes Wllie; Butter on the veg.

And it was ALL delicious. I am sure it will change, but i am on day 5 and totally loving it - I am not missing the carbs at all.

(I am secretly scared that I will weigh half a stone more when I weigh in 3 days time - seems so WRONG eating butter and cream with impunity!).

I did Dukan earlier in the year and lost over a stone easily. Maintained for a while but put it all back on and need support I think. Can you eat flavoured yoghurt? On Dukan you were allowed lemon and vanilla I think.

Doshusallie · 30/12/2012 20:04

Tea - chopped sprouts, shredded leek and cabbage and bacon, cooked in butter, then added double cream and chunks of Stilton. Was divine and am absolutely stuffed. Also had a glass and a half of red.

cocolepew · 30/12/2012 20:06

I'm hungry.

HugAndRoll · 30/12/2012 20:07

My asda delivery came, they substituted my full fat Greek yogurt for 0% natural (obvs rejected) but it made me smile.

I had scrambled egg, bacon fried in butter and green beans with butter for dinner. I was given a Yule log today which I'm craving but I'm trying to ignore.

I already have a bit of a headache and have had some 70% dark chocolate which is ok in the briffa book in moderation. Will be stricter as I go through the week.

SingingTunelessly · 30/12/2012 20:28

Coco, if you're hungry eat! Cheese, pâté on celery, ham with mayo, hard boiled egg with mayo or butter. Whatever low carb/high fat munch you fancy!

HugAndRoll · 30/12/2012 20:31

Argh, craving carbs. I'm not hungry. My brain thinks I am but I'm really not. Drinking another 750ml bottle of water which is helping.

NoveltySlippers · 30/12/2012 20:45

Hugandroll I feel your pain. There is a mince pie looking at me, but I'm ignoring it. Oh yes I am.

Heartstart · 30/12/2012 20:48

I'm in from 7th. Is anyone else going to Briffa event on 27th?

janx · 30/12/2012 20:52

Can I join please. I don't have scales at home - was doing low carb but have fallen off the wagon and feel I have put quite a bit back on. I really struggle with breakfasts as I rarely want eggs in the morning... Am going to do more meal planning. If anyone has breakfast ideas please share Grin

cocolepew · 30/12/2012 20:53

Crisis over! I forgot I had bought carrot sticks (I don't like celery). I've been eating full fat Philadelphia of them.

thenightsky · 30/12/2012 20:55

Does all this cooking in butter mean that olive oil or rapeseed oil is not allowed?

NoveltySlippers · 30/12/2012 20:58

Yes - I was wondering about olive oil too! Anyone know?

Jacaqueen · 30/12/2012 21:07

Thank you

WillieWaggledagger · 30/12/2012 21:07

My understanding is that you need to be a little careful with cooking with some non-animal fats as they can become trans-fats via the heating process. I think olive oil is one of them, not sure about rapeseed (olive oil fine for salad dressings of course as it is raw). Some people use coconut oil instead which I think is ok to cook with, as well as lots of benefits (and dairy free for those who can't consume dairy). It can be expensive though if bought from regular supermarkets, so I think many order online or get from Asian supermarkets. I haven't used it myself though

SingingTunelessly · 30/12/2012 21:08

Pretty sure that cooking in olive oil isn't great anyway? Something to do with the way it changes during the cooking process I seem to remember. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong although its ok to use as a dressing. I use a lot of ground nut oil.

NoveltySlippers · 30/12/2012 21:10

Thanks willie that makes sense.

Just reading through the rules though and seen something about 'breath odour' Hmm

Just how bad might that get? Confused

SingingTunelessly · 30/12/2012 21:13

Ahh x-post with willie who explained it far better than I could. Grin

To those who are struggling with mince pies etc., remember we don't start Bootcamp until 7 Jan. swigs wine snouts chocs

Doshusallie · 30/12/2012 21:16

Carrots aren't great - quite carby....

ArfAPandaTreacle · 30/12/2012 21:19

What's the deal with soya milk (say, 2-3 tea amounts, not as full drinks) or coconut milk (say 2-3 coffee amounts) each day.

timidviper · 30/12/2012 21:26

I am impressed at those of you who have started already! We have 8 friends round tomorrow night for a NY dinner party, having decided we can't be arsed braving public places. One friend is bringing canapes and another, her famous pavlova, I am making the main course so this will be my swansong of misbehaving and will get back to being good within the next few days.

cocolepew · 30/12/2012 21:27

I didn't eat very many... Blush

anewdispensation · 30/12/2012 21:58

Quick question: I don't eat eggs at all. Will I survive? I am a rice addict! Rice and coke are my biggest undoings!! I just need some breakfast tips please.
