New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

vnmum · 30/12/2012 18:11

Can someone please add me to the list, am on tablet so can't work out how to copy and paste.

I started back on the wagon yesterday as just couldn't bear any more carbs and the subsequent weight gain. 3 1/4 lbs off after one day, so i am happy and feel much better in myself for not eating carbs. It does mean i won't have a huge bootcamp first week loss like most of you will but that doesn't bother me, just wanted to get back on track Smile

Willowisp · 30/12/2012 18:23

Oh me, me, ME !

I've got a massive Xmas cake which keeps calling me, although I'm about to slice it up & freeze out of temptations way Grin

I've enjoyed the low carb stuff & although I can fit into most of my clothes, there is another goal of 2 x skirts...last worn 23 years ago Shock

I'd like to add willowispsMAMA, who has been low carbing (under my instruction Wink) since mid November & has lost 1 st 5 lbs.

She looked so much better, I burst into tears when I saw her.

Have faith all that are not sure, this WOE rocks !

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 30/12/2012 18:27

When I'm cooking for the whole family - i.e. when I'm cooking Grin - I just leave out the carb element for me. So if we're having salmon stir fry, I have the salmon and the stir-fried veg, but no rice or noodles. There are some dishes where this is a problem - e.g. risotto, lasagne, kedgeree - which means I don't cook them, unless someone in the family particularly pesters me for them. In which case I will have something different. But this is very rare.

For further inspiration Here is the Bootcamp recipe thread lots of lovely low carb ideas here, for vegetarians as well as us carnivores.

And this WOE need not be more expensive than any other - yes, it tends to focus around meat/fish, rather than pasta/rice, but there are plenty of good, cheap cuts of meat available. And the supermarkets always have some kind of offer on meat - 3 for £10/2 for £6 etc.

Great cuts for low carbing are those which are fattier, which tend to be cheaper anyway. So breast of lamb, pork belly, chicken thighs and fatty mince.

ilovemyteddy - sorry, I didn't answer you! Yes, as far as I know the Briffa thing is still happening, at the end of January.

MisForMumNotMaid · 30/12/2012 18:45

Could someone please add DH and I to the list. We started in the summer time, under a previous name, but then I did an unsuccessful stint of weight watchers online that confused all my high fat vs low fat thinking.

We've rather enjoyed our Christmas and pre Christmas eating and now, well on the 7th, need to kick start are eating and exercising regime.

Stylelostinlabour · 30/12/2012 18:46

Hello count me in I'd make a great low carb roast the amount of fat I have on me at the moment.

Please could someone add me as the iPhone won't let me copy and paste?

5.8 and 13.10 (after a poo, wee and naked with one hand touching the side for balance).

Want to lose 2.5 stone please

Right off to look at spreadsheet and clear the cupboards of th crap

Is total Greek OK to eat?

ArfAPandaTreacle · 30/12/2012 18:49

Ah, I didnt realise it was starting on the 7th. Ive already stocked up and psyched up. Im starting tomorrow.

NoveltySlippers · 30/12/2012 18:51

Hi all

Thought I'd make a start today and did my shopping. Got lots of good veg, meat, yoghurt etc.

Had smoked salmon, eggs and tomatoes for breakfast - was delicious. Ham and salad for lunch.

Then caved spectacularly at dinner time when family member cooked delicious looking pasta with leeks and gammon.

I think I'll be alright back at home, but these social gatherings are going to be difficult I can see. (I know it's a question of getting the cravings out of your system first, so it's not such a gargantuan act of willpower....)

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 30/12/2012 18:56

You'll have a head start on us then, Arf! Grin

Stylelostinlabour - Total is perfect. Just make sure you get the full fat one not the fat free/reduced one.

OP posts:
thenightsky · 30/12/2012 19:04

ok... question... can we have any alcohol? Of course I know lager is dead carbie, but what about voddie and tonic or wine?

God I'm such a novice Blush

Stylelostinlabour · 30/12/2012 19:06

Oh great will eat all the fat free stuff this week, it'll be a chore but needs must

Doshusallie · 30/12/2012 19:20

Nightsky - alcohol verboten on BOOTCAMP, certainly first two weeks. (although I actually never manage this)

If you can't avoid it, dry white, red, or gin/vodka with slimline tonic are best choices.

cocolepew · 30/12/2012 19:22

This is the bad time of the day for me. I usually have a bar of Dairy Milk and some crisps/nuts, beer or cider.

Dropping the snacking alone, will probably be between 4-500 calories Shock

NewStartSameStory · 30/12/2012 19:27

and the rest coco you can easily consume nearly 600 cals in one chocolate bar depending on the bar chosen.

SingingTunelessly · 30/12/2012 19:28

Nightsky, as Dosh says no alcohol for the two weeks of Bootcamp. Best almost zero carb drink though is vodka, soda, lime and ice. I've had to force myself to like it ........ ahem. Almost too much. Blush

NewStartSameStory · 30/12/2012 19:28

BUT this isn't a low calorie diet!!!! It is a low/no carb diet and the calories can be scary if you count them so don't. Many of us have made this mistake.

ScillyCow · 30/12/2012 19:29

How does today look?
B: Scrambled egg (in butter), mushrooms and tomatoes
L: Big cheese salad
Snack: Cheese and celery
Dinner: Tuna steak, asparagus, spinach and french beans.

Loads of water. 2 cups decaf tea with cream.

Too much cheese? I am struggling a bit with snacks (I don't eat meat)
Will go back to rules again - I have got a bit confused with the cheese / no cheese thing as I read Pig to Twig today Grin

FellatioNelson · 30/12/2012 19:34

Oops sorry BIWI, I got held up, the traffic was terrible, but I am here now miss, and I'm in. Grin

Coincidentally sort of started LCing today, although I have had a bit of a softly softly start, food wise. Not exactly hardcore, but no booze though, so GO ME!

cocolepew · 30/12/2012 19:37

I'm not very adventurous, I can't be bothered to cook, all those lovely recepies are wasted on me. I do like the look of the cheese crackers though .

After bootcamp what are you allowed? The only thing I think I will strughle with is no bread or biscuits for breakfast. I buy a sugar free wheaten loaf, from the bakers, usually and I'm hoping that will be allowed.

I'm useless Grin

cocolepew · 30/12/2012 19:38

struggle excuse my typos.
