The NO EXCUSES, Now or NEVER slimming thread

Youcanringmybell · 30/08/2012 16:08

This is a thread for those who are pig sick of over eating and binging and have decided enough is enough.

There will be no excuses on this thread...no 'oh but I was due my period' or 'oh but it was left over so I finished it' etc

IF you need to have a nice meal as part of a celebration DO IT but no more excuses - have the meal and move on.

This is a thread for the brave.....this is a thread for the serious. Join at your peril.....

Monday mornings are weigh in - so that we cannot binge on the weekends. I am deliberately being hard on myself and if you want to do it to please join. Even if someone wafts wine and banoffee pie under my nose I will not have it - even if the world is going to end I WILL NOT HAVE IT

weigh in Monday morning and post here

Oh and drink some wine and eat some choc while you still can because on Monday you will be in hell Angry

God i wish I could cheer you all up but I cannot. Having a horrible day and then missed a call from husband (when I needed a chat!) because my son was crying as he had hurt his foot. Kids are in bed early and I am eating an Innocent curry pot.

Tortoise · 26/09/2012 18:52

Sorry you're feeling low too Youcan. I'm sure the rubbish weather doesn't help either.

FedUpOfRain · 26/09/2012 18:57

Sorry to hear that your having a horrible day youcan! Are the curry pots nice? Nearly bought one today.
I've had a bit of a rubbish day too - car insurance company decided to charge me twice, so I am now overdrawn and I will have to pay the charge myself!!! I am planning a Friday night treat seeing as get paid in the next day or two and I will be home alone for the first time in ages. Might have some chocolate Grin Gone a month without the stuff and I really, really want a bar all to myself Grin

Youcanringmybell · 26/09/2012 19:03

Thanks ladies.

The curry pots are lovely - very lentil/ beany but I like that. Filling and just spicy enough. On offer so bag them while you can.

Bloody companies helping themselves to your money!! It drives me to distraction. If you contact bank they will see it was a duplicate dd and maybe not charge you. Ask to speak to a manager. Goodluck.

Go for a treat - we all deserve to feel a bit special. The trick is not doing it the following day.

My 'friend' just cancelled our coffee date tomorrow as well. I have been in all week and could have done with a little outing. Why is it that it is always the same people that mess you about and cancel stuff ALL the time.

We're all a bit miserable on here today :( I've had a reasonable day actually so I'm going to try to cheer you all up by telling you one of the things that have made me laugh today. Dd2 (age 2y7m) woke dp up this morning by grabbing hold of his 'gentleman's area' and yanking. I've never seen him move so fast Grin (and I was no help to him cos I couldn't stop giggling)

rowing I'd love to put dd2 in the creche and go swimming but a) our pool doesn't runa creche and more importantly b) I work full time so can only really fit my exercise in in the evenings (or get up at 5am to do it which will NOT happen) and the pool is full of swimming lessons or swimming club etc. And power walking with dd2 in the buggy is out because she wants to walk too, so it's a snail's pace and we don't have time anyway. So I'm stuck with Tues evenings while dd1 is at orchestra and dp is putting dd2 to bed and a Wed afternoon when I can leave work a bit early. So the only options are the gym or walking/running in the rain. I think I'm going to have to just change to a bike or cross trainer in the gym.

Rum that does sound very tough. How old is your ds? Are there any things you enjoy doing as a family that could stop the food cravings and remind you of the positives? Or crafts like someone else suggested, I enjoy cross stitch and crochet but rarely get the time.

TheHumancatapult · 26/09/2012 20:12

Sorry you missed the call youcan

Hope everyone feels better and happy soon

ICBINEG · 27/09/2012 00:09

Oh...now I feel like I precipitated a bad thread vibe....

Sorry to hear about everyone else's down-ness.

So how to avoid snacking....I pretty much have to be watching TV and playing solitare simultaneously in order to avoid snacking...I wonder though if I learnt to knit or something that might be better....YUP I need a craft project? Any ideas?

I also second the comment that clothes shopping is a no-no....leaves me in a 3 week depression/eating binge.

I have no sensible suggestions at all for getting through the 'fuck it who cares if I eat myself to death - it has to be better than this' days. If I did I would be broadcasting it to the world.....and making lots of money...which I would spend on...erm...food? damn.

Youcanringmybell · 27/09/2012 07:18

icb Perhaps you could make a start on making some christmas cards for starters. Then learn to knit or crochet? Therapeutic once you get into it!

I am doing a patchwork for dd and then I have some fondant figures and flowers etc to start making for dd's birthday cake! Should keep be out of trouble!

OP posts:
cantmakecarrotcake · 27/09/2012 08:55

ICB, I knit (in a mediocre way). I started with making alphabet cubes for soon-to-be-DD when I was pg. Simple squares, you can't go too wrong. I progressed onto stuffed animals (bunnies etc) after a while and then onto a rather cute jumper dress. It definitely keeps your hands and brain busy, especially when counting stitches. It gets quite addictive - just one more row - so I find I'd rather knit than pick at food.

Have you got any kids/friend's kids you could knit for? Or donate to a Christmas fair?

I used to find the same when I played the piano as a teen. It was all I could concentrate on so nothing else could occupy my brain at the time.

I've bought a quilt-style advent calendar with pockets that I need to stitch. First job is to buy a sewing machine, second job is to learn how to use it. Can't see it being ready for Dec 1st at this rate! Off topic, but can anyone recommend a good make/model of sewing machine for a sewing numpty?

ICBINEG · 27/09/2012 10:35

hmmm...I had planned to knit something for niece/nephew to be, but unfortunately my SIL miscarried. My brain is jammed with irrelevant baby related gift ideas. I have recently gotten more into origami...but it doesn't really work for this problem. Will scour some christmas gift ideas websites.

xxxresixxx · 27/09/2012 11:17

Hi HopHop- glad to see you!

Right guys Im on the mend and am determined to bring some positivity to this thread today!!! Everyone has done GREAT so far but i think we may have hit a rut! In my experience limited as it is to losing my pre post baby weight things can get a bit samey a few weeks in when new recipes have been tried, the euphoria of initial big losses wears off and life and its crappiness gets in the way!!

So....(unfortunately i cant raise my voice to a motivational shout)

Youcan- you love baking? i challenge you to start trying these low fat recipes with your DC's and review them for the group

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1572/banana-and-blueberry-muffins-
www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3970/chocolate-muffins-with-hot-chocolate-custard
www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7900/the-ultimate-makeover-carrot-cake

all are round about 200/230 calories per piece/muffin which is perfectly acceptable as a treat and the muffins may be a good breakfast alternative!!!

Tortoise- step away from the sausages!!! I love yummy winter warmer comfort food so maybe we need to explore some healthy versions? Im going to try this one tonight..

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1982/onepot-lentil-chicken

Exercise is not one of my strengths, the most exercise i get is running around after my 20 month old DS. However the one thing i love doing is to put on some music and dance with him around the room, swinging him round etc. I figure it must burn some calories and its lots of fun!!!

Seriously tho- i hope everyone is having a better day today:) and i shall leave the speeches to youcan in future as shes much better and louder than i am!

Youcanringmybell · 27/09/2012 11:33

resi - a lovely speech indeed. Thanks for the recipes I may try them out at the end of October and have some friends round for tea and cake!

You sound incredibly positive today and that spreads so thank you!

I am more resigned to this today. And my appetite is much smaller so not feeling the hunger so much.

Keep it going everyone!

We get to starta new thread soon, I have never had a thread run so long!

hophophippidtyhop · 27/09/2012 12:55

Hi everyone, so, chicken curry tonight, made with chicken breast and a spoonful of half fat creme fraiche, so not too bad. easy day today as dd1 if off to a friends for tea, so no school run today!

cookieowner · 27/09/2012 12:58

i too am not feeling so hungry , been doing calorie counting for a month now so guess my body has decided to want less ! i could still eat pizza and crisps every day though but have been very saintly this week in the hope of getting under the 13 stone mark very soon
It is great to come on here and know im not alone in this , very motivating guys so thanks

xxxresixxx · 27/09/2012 13:20

Thanks guys! Feeling soo much better!! No longer on pain killers and am able to eat a little more- tho nothing massive. This is not necessarily a bad thing and im going to use it as an opportunity to rectify my portion size issues which along with eating biscuits is the major reason for my weight gain!! Tonight im going to start to compile a menu/ shopping list for next week, hopefully with some new recipes to try. Im not back at work until 9th as i have to have 2 weeks off work so i will have some spare time to try some new recipes :).

My motivation is a very tight body con dress i bought to wear to my sisters hen do. I need to lose fatty bumps!!!

tiggy114 · 27/09/2012 13:20

Haven't used mfp or been on here for 2 days Sad don't think i've overdone the calories yet but this is why i never lose weight. I go all guns blazing and determined to do it then lose motivation really quickly. A bit of a family problem yesterday and it all goes out of the window Sad feel free to kick me up the backside.

tiggy114 · 27/09/2012 13:23

Cookie i'm the same. I had a lemon merangue pie slice and felt sick after it. Your body gets used to your new way of eating doesn't it? I'm finding my sugar cravings have really decreased too. I've done a week cold turkey and kicked tge habitGrin not forever i'm sure!

cookieowner · 27/09/2012 13:31

I guess im lucky that i dont like much sweet stuff really so going without cakes and biscuits doesnt bother me really , but i do love every sort of cheese, olives , pizza and crisps!
just made a lunch of a 2 egg omelette with a few bits of very lean thin ham , spring onions and light mozarella grilled on top of it
I defintielly need to find some different low fat recipes as its true you get fed up very fast if not of the same stuff

tiggy114 · 27/09/2012 14:22

Mmmm cheese. Mmmm cheese on toast. Yummmmmmmm

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 27/09/2012 15:07

Yesterday sounded a bit miserable, glad everyone's feeling better today.

I have had a minor triumph. I had to travel for a meeting and there's something about stations that mean I always end up waiting around and eating coffee and cake (or danish pastries) sometimes twice in a day. Anyway I had my meeting on Tuesday and had enough willpower to not even go near the station coffee bar. It doesn't sound like much but when I was working full-time in London I had to have a snack when I was waiting for a train whether I was hungry or not.

Really good suggestions about treats and what to do evenings. DH is working late this week and I have found it tough not comfort eating. I have been treating myself by having long baths, putting a facepack on, and doing my nails (can't get cheese out of packet with wet nails so might start doing nails every day!)

I am definitely going to start writing Xmas cards this evening. I am never organised enough to send them but if I start now I can post them in December! Not creative enough to do my own youcan and I have a big box I bought in the January sales about 3 years ago

Recipe ideas - Channel 4 have recently put 'Cook Yourself Thin' on 4 on demand. I love that programme. Tonight we're having turkey schnitzel that I saw on CYT with a polenta coating (lower cal than flour, egg, breadcrumbs) and very tasty. BTW CYT is only on PC version of 4od, so if you try to find it on a tablet it's not there. I found comments about Nigella, nutella and cheesecake hilarious. I don't feel ready to watch Nigella yet!

I have felt slightly more human today! Not 100% better but getting there.
I'm really worried about food choices so far this week. Expecting a gain this week Sad.
Had macaroni cheese with bacon for dinner. Not really a good choice but needed to be a quick meal tonight.
Done a fair bit of walking today thanks to DD1 forgetting her lunch box this morning!
Hoping for a good day tomorrow.

rowingboat · 27/09/2012 23:18

Hi all, end of a long day. Been a bit random. I must try to eat a bigger midday meal when working late. Had baxters lentil and bacon and two slices of hovis seed sensations. Can't believe how many calories are in a slice - 120 pr something. What is the point of that? Could have eaten about 50 carrots for that!
Think it's time to cut back on the carbs because it just doesn't have the bulk to keep my tummy full.
Is anyone going to a McMillan coffee morning tomorrow? They're all over the place. We are having one at work, then meeting for lunch. Eek! Don't think I'll be having breakfast then!
Bought one of those delicia pizzas - the lower calorie one. Has anyone tried? We will have them tomorrow, so will report back. Not much choice in toppings, cheese or chicken.
Fermez are you seeing your new man this weekend or next?
Tortoise how is your dd today? Hope the class settled down after the scissor incident.
