I have some great news to share. I went to the corner shop hungry after work to buy bread for DD and DH and all my favourite bags of chocolates were on offer for a £1 and I bought nothing at all

And DH has only just served up dinner. How bloody fantastic is that? My reasoning was that I want to be 10.10 by the 30th November and be maintaining by Christmas and won't manage that unless I really do stop the secret eating. No point in me being good all day to stuff it up in the evenings! I am back to taking it day by day as the carb cravings seem to be lingering. Any advice?

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 05/09/2012 20:57

Stupid phone, I meant to add some personals.

maggie step.away.from.the.cocktails, they are NOT your friend! Think of the little black dress!!!

Sharon I have recently ha the exact same issue with scales, turns out mine were running out of battery and so weren't working properly, I gained four lbs in five minutes which was when I knew something was wrong!

BIWI · 05/09/2012 20:58

Blimey - 4lbs in 5 minutes is serious!

AuntieMaggie · 05/09/2012 21:04

Thankyou. I had the best steak prawns and salad at Miller and Carter in B'ham... they were more than happy to give me salad instead of chips but tbh it comes with a big wedge of lettuce covered in a dressing of your choice. I couldn't finish it all and I only had an 8oz steak! Pre woe I would've polished that off and more no problem!

Thegoddessblossom · 05/09/2012 21:17

Hmm think dinner might have been a bit carby...low carb sausages, but cooked as a casserole with 2 Tins of tomatoes, a green and a red pepper and an onion.

Ruddy lovely though.

vnmum · 05/09/2012 21:31

Had some delicious ribeye steak with prawns, mushrooms in cream and boursin sauce and salad for tea. It was lush. I think the mushrooms are now DH's new fave. Breakfast was a piece of crustless quiche and lunch was 3 slices of naice ham followed by strawbs and cream.
DD starts school tomorrow, mornings only but i will be making the most of it and hitting the gym.

BIWI · 05/09/2012 21:49

Today:

no breakfast - not hungry
mid-morning - 2 hardboiled eggs mashed with mayo
afternoon - yoghurt
snack - hardboiled egg mashed with butter, bit of cheese
dinner - roast chicken, cabbage with butter, roasted cauliflower in olive oil with cumin and chilli

3 litres of water and 2 cups of coffee

Viperidae · 05/09/2012 21:50

I have had another belly pork disaster! Shock

As some of you know I cooked it without barbecue sauce for the first time earlier this week and it came out dry and hard. Well I always buy my belly pork at Costco but have to travel 40 miles to the nearest one so only go for a big shop and I saw some in Lidl yesterday, looked nice and very cheap.

I have cooked it tonight, according to the advice you all kindly gave me, and it has shrunk in the oven like a crisp packet would! Tomorrow night's tea has just become a mini snack-ette, it is less than half the size it went in - now I know why it was cheap!

Will have to go and rummage in the freezer now.

BIWI · 05/09/2012 21:52

Was it one big piece? And what temperature did you put it in the oven at?

Viperidae · 05/09/2012 22:09

No, it was belly pork slices. I sprinkled them with seasoning and fennel seeds, covered them in foil and roasted at 140 for 1 1/2 hours like halfthesize suggested after I incinerated the last lot. I even did them 10 degrees lower than suggested as I have a fan oven which is a bit hot. I am stunned at how much they have shrunk though, they are honestly less than half the size they started out.

This is going to become a challenge I think. How many disasters before I get something edible? The positive is that these are not quite as rock hard as the last lot! Grin

vnmum · 05/09/2012 22:10

I grill my belly pork strips. It can get a bit smokey as the fat burns on the grill but it makes the fat on the pork lovely and crispy without drying the meat bit out

Viperidae · 05/09/2012 22:16

I don't trust myself with the grill! I have a new kitchen and don't want to chance setting anything on fire! I thought that doing them in the oven would make them lovely and succulent but obviously not!

BIWI · 05/09/2012 22:24

It's much better to buy it and roast it in a whole piece - stays beautifully succulent. 1.5 hours was probably a very long time for individual strips.

Viperidae · 05/09/2012 22:45

I will try that next time! A whole piece it is next!

I've just got the John Briffa book so am reading that to try and catch up with you all a bit in understanding what we're doing and why. Interesting stuff.

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 05/09/2012 22:46

I use pork belly strips in a casserole or as marinated kebabs. I wouldn't roast them but have cooked then whole wutha cream and mushroom sauce in an oven.

MrsHerculePoirot · 05/09/2012 22:52

I'm not telling what I had to eat today, but it was my birthday so that was OK! This time next year I'll be a right skinny Minnie....

BIWI · 05/09/2012 23:08

Happy birthday, MrsHP! Did you do something special?

SharonGless · 05/09/2012 23:10

Happy birthday Mrs HP, hope you were thoroughly spoiled and enjoyed your treats!

MrsHerculePoirot · 05/09/2012 23:35

No I played netball then had some drinks afterwards with my team! Tomorrow I have a fun packed day though as no work - involving many activities inc. the London Eye - DD (2.9) is very excited!

OP posts:
BIWI · 05/09/2012 23:36

Which team do you play for, MrsHP?
