We could keep chatting here until someone starts a new proper thread...

Out to dinner with DH and DS1 shortly. Although how that could improve on the gym and a trip to IKEA I'm not sure!

vnmum · 30/08/2012 19:43

Happy birthday BIWI!

viperidae i am asthmatic too and mine has improved immensly since starting this woe and cutting out grains.

BIWI · 30/08/2012 19:44

thank you!

That's interesting to hear about your asthma improving, vnmum.

WillieWaggledagger · 30/08/2012 19:49

That is interesting vnmum

Dp has asthma. He also has eczema and keratosis pyloris (sp?) which I have heard can be improved with this woe. I don't think he would test the theory though!

Viperidae · 30/08/2012 19:55

Have a lovely birthday BIWI. Have a lovely meal out. You are right, we are very similar age.

MrsHP What did you use for the lasagne sheets? The Hairy Bikers opened out a leek and used that but I'm not sure if that would work well.

Today I have eaten bacon and scrambled egg, meat loaf and salad, pork loin with leeks in cream and oven roasted veg so, hopefully, I'm learning how to do this better.

halfthesize · 30/08/2012 20:01

Happy Birthday BIWI have a fab eve.Grin

MrsHerculePoirot · 30/08/2012 20:04

I just used slices of emmental (sp?) - not my idea someone else but a-maze-ing! Basically I made usual bolognese then later of that, layer of emmental (then option dollop of cream cheese mixed with grated cheese) layer of bolognese layer of emmental and covered generously with grated cheddar and mozzerella mix.

Happy Birthday, BIWI!

I did the leek lasagna on Tues - you need to cut the completed lasagna with a knife or the leek just pulls out of the layers and it all falls apart. Also, my bolognese was a bit too runny - I think you have to let the bolognese reduce so it's not as runny as you would with pasta lasagna. It was really yummy, though!

NigellasGuest · 30/08/2012 21:10

Happy birthday BIWI! Have a lovely time tonight! Thanks Thanks

Peg I have the same problem as you. I've been trying supplements: chromium, magnesium, B6, evening primrose, to combat the cravings and they seem to be helping. Re. bloating PM... I've not sorted that one yet!! would love to though!

AuntieMaggie · 30/08/2012 21:33

BIWI · 31/08/2012 00:11

Thank you all!

Lovely dinner and evening with DH and DS1 - still sitting and chatting with DS1, which is both unusual and lovely!

Thegoddessblossom · 31/08/2012 08:13

still 9 2 this morning which is great considering the volumes of food consumed since Tuesday and wine

Had leftover ratatouille for tea last night and an egg and baby bel for snacks. I don't find that tomoatoes derail me which is great.

Greek yoghurt for B this morning.

Jacaqueen · 31/08/2012 09:11

Sorry I missed your birthday BIWI.

I just can't get on here very much at the moment as real life keeps getting in the way.

I have been proper boot camp strict the past few days and have lost 2lbs since Monday. I would love to get another couple off by next Monday but the weekend is looming so we shall see.

BIWI · 31/08/2012 09:20

Thanks, Jac!

Re the re-writing of the rules, here is a really interesting piece by Dr Briffa.

Basically confirming that it is:

a) better to eat three meals a day, rather than snack throughout the day
b) better to eat less frequently in general - and therefore no need to eat three meals a day

so therefore we should aim to eat when we're hungry (and so don't force breakfast or any other meal if you don't want it), but to make sure that you don't leave it till you're hungry before you eat. In other words, we need to make sure that we always have appropriate food planned/available.

HumphreyCobbler · 31/08/2012 09:42

ooh, happy birthday for yesterday BIWI

I had a little wobble last night due to drinking rum and pear juice shots. It was fun while it lasted but feel shocking this morning. Not from a hangover, more from a carbover as I ate a potato!!! And some crisps!!!! And some homemade raspberry jelly!!!

Still, back on the case today.

vezzie · 31/08/2012 09:44

Happy birthday for yesterday, BIWI, I hope you had a lovely dinner out.

BIWI · 31/08/2012 09:57

Thanks, Humph and vezzie!

So the carb-fest is over for me now, and I'm back on the wagon. I am also incredibly stiff after yesterday's gym session, which has quite shocked me. I won't be seeing my trainer until Tuesday now, so I am going to have to make sure I go to the gym again to get back into the swing of things.

I've also been reading this blog which is fascinating.

But it's also left me wondering, along with the other reading I've been doing, why so much of this is coming out of the US. Here we have Dr Briffa and Zoe Harcombe writing about low carb, but who else? And also interesting given the point you made about the US, vezzie.

sybilfaulty · 31/08/2012 09:58

Humph, that is funny! I had a bit of choc last night - 85% but not that tempting any more. Isn't it odd how we feel guilty now whereas in the past I'd have happily troughed the bar, plus crisps, potatoes etc etc.

Can I recommend Tesco Finest Pork and Chive Sausages for the LC sausage lover? 0.1g carb per 100g and GORGEOUS!

Happy birthday for yesterday BIWI, glad you had a good day with your boys Smile

AuntieMaggie · 31/08/2012 10:02

Morning ladies.

Not lost anything since the start of the week but I'm hoping that its just because of my period.

I'm also not sure whether I'm in ketosis or not. My body is doing some odd things but not sure if that's also my period.

BIWI · 31/08/2012 10:10

What's going on, AuntieMaggie? Let's see if it is just LC/your period

HumphreyCobbler · 31/08/2012 10:33

Re Water - I find drinking enough water really challenging, as I need the loo so much. Yesterday I went out with the dc and didn't drink nearly enough due to not being near a loo most of the day.

Am due to get my period tomorrow and am noticing that I have more pms symptoms this month. I put this down to coming off the wagon whilst on holiday.

Sybil, it is really interesting that unwillingness to cheat, and keeness to get back on the wagon as soon as possible. It is amazing for me. I am used to low fat diets that are always seen as 'temporary' and which I am always desperate to stop.

Sorry, just wibbling away here Grin

AuntieMaggie · 31/08/2012 10:37

I've had some strange toilet experiences, yesterday i had a weird feeling like someone had pulled on my cervix, am bloated and headachy, and weeing a lot. But I don't have a metallic taste or smelly breath.

I am sleeping really heavily too.
