Bootcamp Week 10 - Pretty Perfect!

Morning campers!

Today's sermon is about cheating. There's been plenty of it along the way and there will be plenty more of it in the future.

It is important to accept that this is and is going to be a fact, as (hopefully) this is about a way of eating, rather than a diet. That means that sometimes there will be occasions and circumstances where it's impossible to keep the carbs down. The classic is when you're invited to dinner and your hosts serve you something 'forbidden', like pasta or rice.

Every now and then you will find that you also have a 'fuck it' moment. Where, for whatever reason, you eat something you shouldn't. It happens.

So.

If you're going to do it, do it right!

If circumstances are beyond your control - e.g. the dinner party - don't stress about it. If you've deliberately gone off piste, don't feel guilty about it. Enjoy the moment while you're in it.

What is absolutely critical is what you do next.

Beware that you will crave carbs and don't let yourself spiral out of control into a mammoth carb fest! Make sure that the 2-3 days immediately afterwards are strictly low carb, and drink plenty of water. And avoid the scales for the next few days!

Here endeth the lesson.

Hi Nigella - flaxseed and linseed are the same thing. Very high in omega 3 and fibre. I sometimes have it in a protein shake in the morning, helps fill me up. You can use it to make 'bread', muffins etc, though I think some people have found it stalls them a bit.

There are lots of health claims for it, some of which are rather outlandish (bit like coconut oil) but it's generally considered to be Good For You and fits nicely in with low-carbing for most people. HTH!

puffylovett · 21/06/2012 11:54

Mummy I bet there will be oodles of lovely marinated kebab type meats and gorgeous hummusy auberginey yoghurty dips and stuff...

obrigada · 21/06/2012 11:56

Can't believe ye are already on Week 10, I remember being determined to join the initial Week 1 bootcamp, managed to do it for 4 days and then true to form I gave up. I have realised that I need to organise myself where food is concerned and work out what I am planning to eat.
Have set tomorrow as Day 1 of low-carbing. Tomorrows menu consists of:
(B) Bacon, scrambled eggs and half tomato.
(L) Casear salad (minus the croutons) + 1 kiwi for dessert
(D) 2 pork chops grilled, steamed grean beans and cauliflower.

Does above sound ok? Do I need to add or take away from it?

FiddleDeFat · 21/06/2012 12:10

Lose the kiwi and fry the chops and veg in butter/oil. Other than that, sounds lovely.

And welcome back. Smile

catinboots · 21/06/2012 12:11

We're not allowed any fruit. It's too sugary.

Snapespeare · 21/06/2012 12:13

the scales do not lie - well they do a bit. weighed myself yesterday late afternoon 14st 10.5. weighed myself this morning 14st 6.5. i prefer the latter. :) so kick me off at 14.6.5 :) will not be jumping on and off the scales every day, shall keep off of them until next thursday morning.

I estimate I have lost around 7-10lbs over the last two weeks in no carb attack phase.

today, had my supplements with water and black tea at home,

3 egg omlette with quark for breakfast, once i got to my desk.

lunch 4 chicken drumsticks.

have a prawn cocktail stuffed in my desk drawer and will probably have steak or chicken wings for tea. (dukan non veg day, shall eat good, green leafy veg tomorrow)

yesterday - 4 litres of water? 5? had two 1.5l bottles at work then about 4 glasses at home.

feeling very motivated. aiming at 21bs in 10 weeks, end date 20.08.12 to be around 13st 7. I'm declaring it 7lbs down, so 14lbs to go. end target weight is 11st 7 (am 5 ft 9) aiming at that by (hopefully) end of october, but contemplating doing a fortnight/month of plateau when i am 7lbs from target.

obrigada · 21/06/2012 12:15

..... throws kiwi out ..... thanks Fiddle & Cat:)

Will definitely fry the chops, natural instinct is to grill them in George Foreman but will dust off frying pan and use it instead!

BIWItheBold · 21/06/2012 12:33

LOSE THE BANANA AND THE SWEET POTATO - THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED ON BOOTCAMP LIGHT EITHER!

AND STEP AWAY VERY QUICKLY FROM THE KIWI FRUIT!

Snapespeare - wash your mouth out! 'Attack' is Durkan language. I'll have none of that filth in Bootcamp, thank you very much!

OP posts:
BIWItheBold · 21/06/2012 12:34

jan2011 - keep an eye on those carbs - yoghurt and berries and almonds - all will add up.

OP posts:
Snapespeare · 21/06/2012 13:06

can i wash my mouth out with gin? I promise i won't swallow. :)

I know. I started off on dukan (attack) and i like the principle of having a protein and veg day, then purely protein day (with the added fats as and when ) it makes it easier for me to focus - i think it all ends up in the wash togather. still then i found 'you lot'. I'll need to read over bootcamp rules agian, posted so kindly up thread to see where the differentials are...

NigellasGuest · 21/06/2012 13:17

thanks Tea - I have some linseed in the cupboard, left over from some previous health kick - good to know I can use it on this WOE.

Re coconut oil, I love it melted and beaten into Total yogurt, because it cools and hardens into a lovely texture, like candle wax. I can eat loads like that!
(loads of C.O. not Total).
I'm finding the CO nice and filling and I have a crazed belief it will help my skin.

MNP · 21/06/2012 13:21

BIWI what is the stance on hummus?

SwitchedtoEatingCheese · 21/06/2012 13:22

Nigellas where did you buy your coconut oil? I refuse to pay the £6.52 tesco wants for a small jar. I bought some a while ago in superdrug (for my hair) but it says not to eat it.....

Thegoddessblossom · 21/06/2012 13:24

MNP I think it's made from chick peas which are a no no

MNP · 21/06/2012 13:29

I thought that TheGoddess but best to check ;)

jan2011 · 21/06/2012 13:54

i also use co on my face its amazing

Thegoddessblossom · 21/06/2012 13:55

I wonder if anyone has actuallly popped after a meal. I am extremely full. I wonder if i am eating too much. Please tell me what you think:

2 big serving spoons of green leaves, olives, chicken lumps - 2 sage and rosemary marinaded chicken skewers - 1 serving spoon of plain tuna - 1 boiled egg- 2 serving spoons of roasted veg - 1 serving spoon of chili mayo on top of tuna - 1 small lump of cheese.

It was all divine.

I ran for half an hour on the treadmill, then walked up hill for 10 minutes, then did squats, weights and sit ups this morning at the gym [mentions in case everyone thinks I am a big fat pig]

I have drunk 2 litres of water so far today.

QueenStromba · 21/06/2012 13:59

Atkins advocates eating until you are satisfied rather than full to the gills.

vnmum · 21/06/2012 14:24

After reading some of the posts from the past few days regarding nuts, fruits etc I have come to the conclusion that I may have been suffering from carb creep. When making salad DH has been adding carrot, grapes and podded peas. I thought that because it was only a small amount that it wouldn't be a problem so didn't want to be be fussy and pick them out. I have also been having pistachios on my salads, sometimes twice a day without counting them or checking the carb count.

I had gained at last WI and it doesn't seem to be going down this week either so I have seen the error of my ways. I am drastically reducing my carbs to closer to the 20g mark to try and get things moving again, especially as I need to lose an inch or two from my waist in 3 weeks to fit into my dress.

B - 2 boiled eggs mashed with butter and coconut oil
L - 4 slices of italian marinated belly pork with half an avocado and some mayo (quite stuffed actually, could probably have had just 2 or 3 slices of pork but there was 4 in the pack and needed eating today)
D- either more belly pork or no carb burgers with salad dressed in oil.

Went for a run this morning, gym yesterday and gym tomorrow.
Must drink more water though

Shimbo · 21/06/2012 16:12

Agh, I am craving something that is not savoury! Not necessarily sweet just not savoury. I guess there is nothing that fits the bill [heading over to the recipe thread to see......].

Thai green chicken curry on the menu for dinner tonight Smile.

frankie4 · 21/06/2012 16:40

Started really well today with 2 scrambled eggs.

Then lunch of 2 poached salmon fillets with veg.

A snack of a hard boiled egg.

Then.....

Had a cupboard raid and ate almost the whole cupboard full of bad foods :(

Don't know why I do this, I have such good intentions and really want to lose weight but just feel the urge to eat.

Can someone tell me off and tell me to start again tomorrow.

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/06/2012 17:35

frankie don't start again tomorrow start RIGHT NOW! I spent my while life starting tomorrow, or Monday and have 5 stone to lose as a result! Check anything left in the bin and squirt it with washing up liquid.

B - three boiled eggs mashed with butter
L - three egg omelette with broccoli, cheese an mushroom and a side salad
D - tbc!

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/06/2012 17:36

*chuck not check!

frankie4 · 21/06/2012 17:59

Thanks mrsherculepoirot.

Is there a limit to how many eggs you can eat in a day?
