Bootcamp Week 10 - Pretty Perfect!

Morning campers!

Today's sermon is about cheating. There's been plenty of it along the way and there will be plenty more of it in the future.

It is important to accept that this is and is going to be a fact, as (hopefully) this is about a way of eating, rather than a diet. That means that sometimes there will be occasions and circumstances where it's impossible to keep the carbs down. The classic is when you're invited to dinner and your hosts serve you something 'forbidden', like pasta or rice.

Every now and then you will find that you also have a 'fuck it' moment. Where, for whatever reason, you eat something you shouldn't. It happens.

So.

If you're going to do it, do it right!

If circumstances are beyond your control - e.g. the dinner party - don't stress about it. If you've deliberately gone off piste, don't feel guilty about it. Enjoy the moment while you're in it.

What is absolutely critical is what you do next.

Beware that you will crave carbs and don't let yourself spiral out of control into a mammoth carb fest! Make sure that the 2-3 days immediately afterwards are strictly low carb, and drink plenty of water. And avoid the scales for the next few days!

Here endeth the lesson.

You can eat as many eggs as you want. The old advice to limit yourself to two a day and only so many per week was based on the misguided assumption that cholesterol in your blood is caused by cholesterol in the diet when actually most blood cholesterol is made by the liver because it is so important that we cannot risk just getting it from our diets.

mummyduff · 21/06/2012 19:02

thanks puffylovett I'm sure you are right.

Dinner tonight was bacon, mushrooms and egg fried in butter, so srummySmile

puffylovett · 21/06/2012 19:19

ok I will ditch the banana. But, can I pleeeeeeeease have the odd bit of sweet potato based on the fact I am dairy free bar the occasional bit of cheese? Grin

puffylovett · 21/06/2012 19:20

What about beans (kidney et al) if hummus is banned?

jan2011 · 21/06/2012 20:30

fgs. i did well tonight - sardines, mashed cauliflour and salad. then just now i finished the (big) packet of nuts. just because. but - at least i didn't eat a whole pile of really carby stuff. can't trust myself just to have a few!

catinboots · 21/06/2012 20:52

I made carb-free/low-carb moussaka tonight.

Divine.

Stuffed now though Grin

BettySuarez · 21/06/2012 20:54

Waves to all the new joiners although I must say there does seem to be quite a lot of rule-bending Grin

B Bacon, Eggs Mushrooms
L Rocket Salad with salmon fillet and cheese
D Cauli and Brocolli Cheese with crumbled bacon

First time I have tried to make the cauli cheese and I must say it was lovely (butter, double cream, cheddar and parmesan with blob of mustard). I cooked the veggies first then put into oven dish, poured the cheese sauce over the top with bit of pepper and put in hot oven for 30 minutes to bubble and brown.

It really was lovely and there is plenty left for tomorrow night when I will be treating myself to a lamb shank!

Also bought some linseed today (in the 'Free From' Aisle in Asda). I found a recipe for Linseed and Parmesan Crackers and also Linseed Bread.

Not entirely successful (too much garlic in the crackers and too many herbs in the bread) but I will persevere as I think that these will make a useful addition to my food list although I am going to eat sparingly.

I have found that I am getting caught out with my evening meals by preparing portions which are far too large - I still haven't got used to the fact that I get fuller much more quickly with this WOE so need to get a grip on portion control Hmm

I am also really annoyed that you all had a conversation about farting and didn't include me. Because I haven't farted for over a week now and no-one will believe me Grin

BettySuarez · 21/06/2012 20:59

puffylovett

I think that kidney beans are quite high in carbs as are lentils and other legumes which is a shame given their nutritional value.

DH makes the most amazing veg chilli with legumes/lentils/veg/toms etc but it will sadly be quite high in carbs which is a damn shame

puffylovett · 21/06/2012 21:14

Don't worry Betty, we can have another conversation about farting. I trumped twice today

Bugger re the kidney beans. I also do a smashing veg /lentil / bean chili. Dp likes it cos it's v cheap. He doesn't like eating this way based purely on cost (despite his newly diagnosed diabetes and the fact that while I've been in control of his diet this week he got under 16stone for the first time in donkeys years)

BIWItheBold · 21/06/2012 21:42

How far away are you from your target weight? Things like kidney beans, bananas and sweet potatoes are things to introduce really only when you have achieved your target.

And I haven't really worked out what comes after Bootcamp Light, because I'm too far away from my target anyway! Grin

[I'm alright Jack emoticon]

Betty you are absolutely right about all the rule-bending.

I POSTED THE RULES EARLIER IN THIS THREAD AS A REMINDER TO PEOPLE WHAT BOOTCAMP IS ALL ABOUT! AND THERE IS A SERMON ABOUT CHEATING TOO. DOES NO-ONE EVER LISTEN TO ME?!

Errrr.. I've no idea what my target weight is actually. Be nice to just get under 10 stone or in to a size 12 (dare I hope for a size 10!!!) currently 11 st 9 and a size 14 (big bones)
I'm doing this cos I'm fed up of feeling like shit and it's a healthier way to eat IMO. The weight loss is just a bloody fab side effect.

My brain fog has totally disappeared (along with the trumps Grin)!!!

I'll avoid the bean chilli for now then :)

If someone (not me obviously, I stick to the rules) was going to have a bottle of wine, would one be better glugging the lot in one night or spreading it over 3 nights?
