Morning campers!

Today's sermon is about cheating. There's been plenty of it along the way and there will be plenty more of it in the future.

It is important to accept that this is and is going to be a fact, as (hopefully) this is about a way of eating, rather than a diet. That means that sometimes there will be occasions and circumstances where it's impossible to keep the carbs down. The classic is when you're invited to dinner and your hosts serve you something 'forbidden', like pasta or rice.

Every now and then you will find that you also have a 'fuck it' moment. Where, for whatever reason, you eat something you shouldn't. It happens.

So.

If you're going to do it, do it right!

If circumstances are beyond your control - e.g. the dinner party - don't stress about it. If you've deliberately gone off piste, don't feel guilty about it. Enjoy the moment while you're in it.

What is absolutely critical is what you do next.

Beware that you will crave carbs and don't let yourself spiral out of control into a mammoth carb fest! Make sure that the 2-3 days immediately afterwards are strictly low carb, and drink plenty of water. And avoid the scales for the next few days!

Here endeth the lesson.

My friend told me this morning that she was watching super skinny me or something last night and that no carbs are really bad for you, causing stress on your heart a d other organs. Ffs

She does eat healthily most of the time, exercises and has never has a problem with her weight. I tried to explain it all but she is just skeptical without any evidence to back it up. Have emailed he various links tonight as i would like her to support me rather than scare mongering from some crap programme.

FiddleDeFat · 24/06/2012 21:24

TooImmatureTurtleDoves - I have added you to the spreadsheet. All you need to do now is enter your weight tomorrow in the appropriate column.

I think cooking with olive oil is fine. I have read a few times that it turns into transfats at high temperatures - but this is nonsense. The Guardian printed an article claiming this, but then had to retract it, see here. Also, according to the Olive Oil Source it is one of the most stable oils.

teaandthorazine · 24/06/2012 22:02

Hmmm, interesting stuff Fiddle. Just goes to show how confusing it can all get! Grin

Am eating far too much 70% Lindt with football stress!

leanbh21 · 24/06/2012 22:16

Just checking in after a camping weekend with a gang of friends. I was fully prepared to say I'd just go with the flow and take a break from the WOE if necessary but actually I found it way easier to stick with it than expected. I did have to turn down tons of wine, crisps, popcorn, cakes, biscuits, sweets, s'mores , fish'n'chips etc but it wasn't as difficult as I thought.

Does anyone else have days of hunger and days of not feeling hunger at all? I'm in constant ketosis so it's not that but I can have one day where I eat small amounts because I don't feel hungry and others where I'm utterly ravenous! I don't understand it.

BIWItheBold · 24/06/2012 22:17

grrrr

We went out for dinner tonight, as we do every Sunday. I think I'm pretty good at navigating around menus. Tonight was Chinese - but the meal I ordered came battered and in a really sweet sauce.

Moonshine I think olives are allowed on low carb too...BIWI?

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 24/06/2012 22:29

I think olives are allowed too - have certainly been scoffing them as my snack of choice, so I hope so!

Thank you Fiddle! Right, away to drink some decaff tea with goats' milk and then neck a pint of water. Don't think I've drunk nearly enough today. Am experimenting with the goats' milk, but the stuff they sell in Sainsbo's is pasteurised and homogenised, whatever that means, and it smells of nothing, which I find odd. I used to drink goats' milk as a child at my granny's, and it was the real deal, fresh from the goat, just strained through a tissue to remove any dirt or hairs that might have fallen into the bucket during the milking. Mmm.

Up and at em again.

Weighed on at 11.10 and AF due any day now. I did need to carb it for a week to get over tummy bug, it was a really nasty one, and I dropped down to 11.6 and was really feeling very poorly at one point. Tonight I have indulged in a glas or two of LC red wine and I am meal planning for the fortnight. Would really love to hit target weight bu end of august.

Have some very very stressful times ahead with moving and a big part of my research due to the funding body so need to think up a fortnightly meal plan which I can rotate and DH can do the shopping.

When can I eat lentils again?

BIWItheBold · 24/06/2012 22:33

Olives are, according to the carb counter on Carblife, zero carbs

Slowly - lentils are probably best left until you're near/at target

Quick question, how do you know if you are in Ketosis? Are you all peeing on sticks or something?

tartiflette · 24/06/2012 23:31

Some really interesting links posted today, thanks - v interesting.
Well didn't do too badly at dinner last night, we shared a rib of beef which was fine obviously, had a bit of wine but not loads, did snaffle a couple of deep fried monkfish cheeks by way of starter but overall not disastrous I don't think.

Today
B: Two boiled eggs
L: Roast turkey slices with mayonnaise
D: Italian meatloaf (homemade - no carbs) with celeriac mash, buttered spinach and broccoli
Snacks: 3 coffees with cream, 30g macadamia nuts.

Fiddle would you mind adding me to the spreadsheet if you get a chance? I've been ding this WOE of a few weeks but will start officially tomorrow.
Thanks!

FiddleDeFat · 24/06/2012 23:38

Will do tartiflette, what's your starting weight?

MNP · 25/06/2012 00:27

Evening.

Fab photos vnmum at 5'4" if I can get down to 12-13st and a size 14 I will be chuffed.

catinboots · 25/06/2012 05:00

Ooh tarti - have you got a recipe for Italian meatloaf? Sounds yum

tartiflette · 25/06/2012 06:54

It's this one catinboots - I leave out the breadcrumbs and it works fine. Need a very sharp knife to slice it up though or it just crumbles into great chunks. Yum though.

Thank you fiddle I am 9st 13.5 this morning (do we do halves?!). I'm 5'5" so within healthy range now but still very wobbly of leg and tum. Now that actual slimness is within reach I am determined to go the whole hog rather than abandoning ship once I get vaguely within an 'acceptable' range which is what I have always done before (and then piled it all back on again).

Thanks Jins for your advice about building towards maintenance. It does make sense. I think though that I will stick with bootcamp until I hit 9st7 and then incorporate some carbs gradually until I settle, hopefully somewhere nearer 9st but we shall see.

Off to check out vnmum's pics for inspiration Smile

Thegoddessblossom · 25/06/2012 07:47

9 2 this morning. Whoop!!!! Grin

scared to weigh today as i feel the bloat!

puffylovett · 25/06/2012 08:38

Well done goddess! Off to find the weigh in thread, v chuffed that I've shifted my holiday weight so quickly :)

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 25/06/2012 10:16

11 stone 0.5! Yay! V Envy of all you in the 9 stone range, though.

vnmum · 25/06/2012 13:26

I am also Envy of those in the 9's. I briefly got there couple of weeks ago then bounced back up. I am on the home stretch though and I think my body may be resisting especially with the exercise i do hence my little secret experiment.

Isn't it funny how we have a specific number we want to see on the scales and aren't happy until we get there despite other evidence of inch loss like measurements, clothes or photos Smile

Anyway, 1lb up this morning. WI at 10st 1.5lb. was expected though.

BettySuarez · 25/06/2012 15:06

Hi everyone, just a quick question to those of you who have previously mentioned being in Ketosis. I am a bit confused as to how you can tell? Is there a test?

Jins · 25/06/2012 15:24

You can get urine test sticks but you don't really need them. If you've got a funny taste in your mouth and a depressed appetite you're in ketosis

BettySuarez · 25/06/2012 17:14

Thanks Jins, I have both of those Grin

HumphreyCobbler · 25/06/2012 20:52

my breath really really smells awful when I am in ketosis. DH recoils in horror. It doesn't seem to be going away either Blush
