Bootcamp Week 10 - Pretty Perfect!

BIWItheBold · 18/06/2012 08:36

Morning campers!

Today's sermon is about cheating. There's been plenty of it along the way and there will be plenty more of it in the future.

It is important to accept that this is and is going to be a fact, as (hopefully) this is about a way of eating, rather than a diet. That means that sometimes there will be occasions and circumstances where it's impossible to keep the carbs down. The classic is when you're invited to dinner and your hosts serve you something 'forbidden', like pasta or rice.

Every now and then you will find that you also have a 'fuck it' moment. Where, for whatever reason, you eat something you shouldn't. It happens.

So.

If you're going to do it, do it right!

If circumstances are beyond your control - e.g. the dinner party - don't stress about it. If you've deliberately gone off piste, don't feel guilty about it. Enjoy the moment while you're in it.

What is absolutely critical is what you do next.

Beware that you will crave carbs and don't let yourself spiral out of control into a mammoth carb fest! Make sure that the 2-3 days immediately afterwards are strictly low carb, and drink plenty of water. And avoid the scales for the next few days!

Here endeth the lesson.

SwitchedtoEatingCheese - re the coconut oil, I get it from Amazon - you can get it a bit cheaper there. But it IS expensive I know. However, since I've stopped drinking (alchohol NOT water of course!!) I reckon that it's cheaper than having half to three quarters of a bottle ofwine almost every night, which is what I was doing until I quit around 3 months ago. regarding your question above though, about is it beter to have a bottle in one go or spreading it, I would say spreading it but that's my uninformed opinion.....

puffylovett · 21/06/2012 22:51

Isn't necking the whole bottle considered binge drinking and worse for your liver?

BIWItheBold · 21/06/2012 23:04

If you're doing Bootcamp you shouldn't be having the wine at all ...

I feel like I've stalled. I think it's to do with me being pre=menstrual and TOM just not coming. This kind of happened last time too. Sad
Why do bodies not want to lose weight just before TOM?

BIWItheBold · 21/06/2012 23:33

Nigellas - that's not a stall. What you're discovering is your body's natural pattern. None of us lose weight in a linear fashion, and the menstrual cycle/our hormones have an influence over this.

Just be patient!

You're most likely suffering from water retention, possibly also mild constipation. The best solution for both is to drink more water. (sorry!)

I am the same weight I was this time last week and I am still doing bootcamp. Maybe I am over doing it on the cheese? I have stuck to it otherwise.

I am not sure I can do this without cheese

I know it sounds silly, but I could really do with shifting another pound or two before next week as I am going to another wedding and would love to be a bit thinner than I am now.

ditavonteesed · 22/06/2012 07:42

OK I need help, I did brilliantly yesterday, scrambled eggs for breakfast, chicken drumsticks , ribs abd salad for lunch and the same for tea, then I lost it, I came on yesterday and the shopping came and I was knackered. I ate a piece of flapjack that I had made for the kids and 2 bags of crisps. will that have totally stoppped my journey to ketosis? Am I starting from stratch this morning? I am back on it, dont even know why I binged last night.
B - scrambled eggs with butter.(feells so wrong)

mummyduff · 22/06/2012 08:02

Morning all, ok so not happyAngry I have put back on the 1lb I lost earlier this week and dont know whyConfused

I have been eating as I have been and drinking lots of water, the only thing I have not done much of is going to the gym, as been working loads!!

I have also found a huge lump in a rather delicate area9sorry if too much info) and now waiting for doc to call me back, loving my morning so far!!

ok rant over!

BIWItheBold · 22/06/2012 08:34

Humphrey - how much cheese have you been eating? If you really have been following Bootcamp properly then this could indicate that you have a dairy issue.

How much do you weigh and how tall are you? How far away from your target are you? Weight loss does slow down as you reach target.

And - of course I'm going to ask you this Smile - have you been eating enough fat and drinking enough water?

dita - why did you do that?!!! Yes, you will have knocked yourself out of your journey. You can't afford to do this. Don't make flapjacks or buy crisps if they are too tempting for you. The DC can go without for a while. Also, looking at your food, it looks like you might not be eating enough fat - if you're not eating enough fat you are eating too much protein - which can result in an insulin spike and also may not be keeping you as full, hence the need to snack.

mummy - it's only a pound. Don't stress about it - your weight will naturally fluctuate depending on all manner of things. Sorry to hear about your lump. Hope you get that resolved/sorted asap.

hi ditavon i would just get right back on track and try to put yesterday completely behind you and not worry too much about ketosis - in any case you will easily get back into it following the plan. i think they key now is to keep focused as you might have a few carb cravings because of it.

mummy m so sorry about you finding the lump and really hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about - hugs to you

i got the dance game for the wii. ive done a couple of routines and think it will be a good way to get a bit of exercise while minding the baby. i just never get the space or time to get to gym any more. and i got a body fat composition monitor (£3 from loyds pharmacy) i don't think its very accurate but it might help knowing if im losing any fat.

needs to stay away from too many nuts today

puffylovett - banana and sweet potato will not assist with prevention of constipation so don't kid yourself they will! You just want them because they taste sweet. :)

If you're worried about not getting enough fibre - which quite frankly is unlikely if you're doing bootcamp properly - then have more broccoli or cauliflower. If you're still worried buy some psyllium husk capsules.

I've not found it necessary to reintroduce either banana or sweet potato in 8 years and I'm dairy free apart from cheese too!

jan2011 · 22/06/2012 09:24

read an article from marks daily apple can't remember where sorry, but he was saying that out of all the diary products, cheese and cream where the best. that milk, yoghurts, etc are all processed in some way and can bring an insulin response and the most natural are good cheeses and heavy cream. this really surprised me since common way of thinking/teaching is the complete opposite!

mummyduff · 22/06/2012 09:38

jan2011 thats really interesting and I agree its strange getting your head round after the years of conditioning we have gone throughSmile

I'm off to the docs at 11am to get checked over x

BIWItheBold · 22/06/2012 09:51

Hmm. Briffa would say the opposite as well, jan!

thanks for your response earlier, BIWI

don't say sorry for recommending simply more water - that's cheap and easy
a bit like my ex

Waves to everyone. Still here too. Busy at work, so no time to post - but still holding the low-carb faith.

Did catch "The Men Who Made Us Fat" on BBC2 again last night. Was very good. Was really pleased to see that some proper scientific research has been carried out to show that kids are not getting fatter because they are doing less exercise. At long last the message is getting through that you will not lose weight by doing more exercise. Thought all the stuff about snacking was interesting too. Snacks have created an endless cycle of sugar spikes & dips that need constantly feeding - more money for the snack providers I guess. not that I'm cynical!

BettySuarez · 22/06/2012 10:13

Morning all, just wanted to report in and say that I have reached my first milestone by loosing 7 llbs (I started 9 days ago). Have been addicted to carbs for as long as I can remember so really very pleased with this.

To those of you who are new or are struggling - keep going! It really does get easier.

I have a fab pair of Boden Jeans that have been sitting in my wardrobe for almost 2 years and it looks as if I might finally be able to get into them - it is great to be able to see these little differences.

B Bacon, Hallumi, Flax Bread. Managed to eat less than half as too salty (bacon and hallumi not a wise combo) and feeling too full.
L. To be decided
D. Roasted Lamb Shank and Cauli/Broccoli Cheese

mummyduff sorry to hear about your discovery. Not sure just how delicate these delicate parts are but could it be a Bartholins Cyst?

Jins · 22/06/2012 10:15

It was interesting how the exercise research lost funding because it didn't have the desired conclusions wasn't it?

It was 'good' to see Susan Jebb again. She was responsible for a study that rubbished the Atkins diet at its peak of popularity. The study was funded by the Flour Council or some similar name so it was kinda biased from the get go.

No time for either her or Amanda Ursell to be honest

PostBellumBugsy · 22/06/2012 10:30

Jins, I think you have hit on a real issue. So much research is funded by companies with a vested interest in a certain outcome.

Many, many moons ago, when I was young and my brain was made of dandelions, I worked for one of the world's largest producers of soft drinks. They paid huge amounts of money every year to all manner of organisations (such as the British Dental Association, Nutritionists Association etc etc) to ensure that these organisations were "on side" and that any "research" would come to the kind of conclusions they were looking for.

moonshine · 22/06/2012 11:42

Hello all [avoids BIWI's big stick waving around]. I said I would eat more carb s this week but strangely enough I couldn't face it (good sign).

I have also been to the docs to discuss non-weight loss and she has ordered a plethora of tests. I have already had 6 vials of blood taken this morning [faints] and have a huge flagon, yes a bloody big plastic flagon, to fill with urine over 24 hours!!

But what really cheered me after reading this thread was that someone had eaten a cheery tomato - maybe mine aren't happy enough? Grin

When will you get your results, moonshine?

OP posts:
HumphreyCobbler · 22/06/2012 12:05

hello BIWI

I have been eating some cheese at breakfast and lunch (not a huge amount, just grated on top of eggs or mince, and maybe some as a snack. I will try cutting it out.

I have been drinking the water and cooking everything in fat, eating chicken skin and putting butter on veg.

I was drinking a few mouthfuls of black coffee in the morning though - not even half a cup but I felt I couldn't do without it. I didn't have it this morning.

I am 5'2" and weight 9.5. My target is about 8.7 although I would be delighted with 8.10.

I will also put a new battery in the scales delusional
