Support thread for those of us trying to log our food and exercise on myfitnesspal

Morning everyone and thanks to those who I've managed to get connected with on MFP. Had a weekend away staying with in-laws and went to the Southport air show which was great fun. Lunches were a bit tricky relying on the available sandwich fillings in the in-laws house, and also trying to track food on the hoof - I now have MFP on my phone but connectivity was a bit iffy. But hopefully I've been OK. I really enjoyed the Wetherspoons superfood salad I had for tea on Saturday.
Back to work now, must step away from the Wasabi peas!

wheredidiputit · 10/09/2012 12:32

Lost another 1lb. Thats 17lbs since June.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/09/2012 21:17

That's great Groovee!!

Sounds good fluffyanimal.

Well done wheredidiputit! That's great even with a non logging day :)

I'm back to full fitness today but still not got my full appetite back, feeling totally stuffed now. Managed to run yesterday for the first time in 6 days and my legs ache today!

We'll need a new thread soon!

I lost a lb which I am quite surprised at as I fell off the wagon quite a lot last week, and didn't do any bike riding.

BUT I did do a 500cal fast day yesterday, as I have decided to do the 5:2 fasting thing, with Mondays and Thursdays at just 500cals, and the other days my usual MFP days, which are 1200 cals, plus whatever else I can accrue through exercise (ideally 1500 in total per day).

I have now lost 5lb in total, and feel like my goal isn't such a ridiculous ideal after all, even though I still have a lot more to lose. I am hoping to lose c. 1.5stone between now and the end of the year, then hopefully another 10lbs or so in the new year, before TTC again in Feb!

All so easy to plan on paper isn't it?!

MrsDWho · 11/09/2012 14:49

Hi all. Joining a bit late I think, but anyway....

I went clothes shopping yesterday, and upon trying them on, I noticed they were getter rather tight. I declared there and then I wasn't going to buy the next size up and that enough was enough. It was diet time.

I had downloaded My Fitness Pals App on my phone, but my youngest DS decided it would be fun to break it...(he is only just over one, so wasn't intentional) so awaiting on my new one to be delivered tonight, and I shall be downloading the App again and joining up.

I haven't read the whole thread as have to rush out shortly, but how are people finding it? Helpful at all?

I don't know what weight I am. I don't own scales (I always obsess over them and climb onto them about a million and one times a day) but I am thinking of using one in boots once a fortnight or something, and I am going to snack on fruit and downsize my portions and eat healthier. I have also got an exercise bike at home, and plan on doing more walking. I am currently squeezing into a size 18, and wanting to get down to a 12. A size 10 would be fantastic, but not using that as my goal just yet.

Good luck everyone.

GeekLove · 11/09/2012 15:42

3lb up to 10lb 5 - but am still looking good. Thanks to JM - her DVDs do work and if you can push yourself with the weights you will get faster results.
Hopefully will be down to 10st in 3 weeks!

Groovee · 11/09/2012 15:58

Well done to everyone on your losses.

MrsDWho I weigh in at boots for 50p every Sunday. I then keep the wee slips and watch my weight go down.

Worrying about this weekend as we're off to London. Hopefully we'll be ok. Picked up a pilates dvd today to do exercise on days off. After being at work yesterday I was in agony this morning.

Anyone new who wants to add me on MFP, I am Grooveecar x

nimbs · 11/09/2012 17:40

marking my place ready for new thread! am officially back on the bandwagon again - hadn't really fallen off foodwise but def. exercise wise as only could do the dog walks - kids back at pre-school now so have a bit of extra time - am going to crack this next stone.

Well done for everyone's weight loss - am mostly on MFP rather than here so catch up only occasionally - am nimbs76 on there so feel free to add me - can always do with the extra support.

MrsDWho · 11/09/2012 20:34

Oh, is it only 50p Groovee? I was expecting it to be more than that, and with having to catch two buses to the closest Boots, I was only going to go a fortnight.

Got my new phone and downloaded the My Fitness Pal App again, but it won't let me create an account without me putting in my current weight, so will go Boots Friday and then officially join you all then.

Well done on the weight loss to all, and good luck for losing more.

ChookKeeper · 11/09/2012 21:44

MrsDWho you mentioned portion sizes. If it's any help I've changed to a salad plate and it's made a massive difference. Psychologically I still have a plate full but it's loads less than I was having before.

I had a takeaway curry at the weekend and would normally have had a whole foil tray to myself plus pilau rice, chips and a naan bread Blush. This week I had some plain boiled rice with half a foil tray of curry and it filled my plate up. I felt nicely satisfied afterwards instead of that uncomfortable bloated feeling from having eaten too much.

MrsDWho · 12/09/2012 09:33

That is a very good idea. What I ended up doing last night was just giving myself a small portion and just bulking it up with veg. Ended up only having 1060 calories yesterday, even though I had quite a bit. My breakfast was 250 calories, my lunch was 200 and my dinner was 450. The rest was just snacking on fruit. I am aiming for 1200 calories a day though, so going to tweak it a bit to make sure I get that amount.

I just hope I stay good and keep up with it Grin

wheredidiputit · 12/09/2012 11:33

I have a set of these kitchen scales which measure from 1g.

wheredidiputit · 12/09/2012 11:34

sorry posted to soon. I use a smaller plate and weigh everything so I can see what a portion size should be rather then just putting things on the plate and guessing.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/09/2012 23:14

My baby is 2 tomorrow, where does the time go!!!

Hope everyone is well and sticking at it as well as enjoying their food :)

EightToSixer · 13/09/2012 11:44

Hi everyone. I'm back from the most blissful holiday in Florida where I ate three meals and at least three snacks a day, drank about 2 litres of full fat coke a day and had a wonderful time.
The damage on the scales this morning?
Nada, zilch!
I'm exactly the same. Excellent, it seems that you can eat like a piggy if you exercise for several hours a day. I reckon the heat, combined with about 8-10 miles walking in the parks and an hour a day in the pool managed o balance out the carb and sugar-fest. Hooray.
Very happy with that, now to keep up the good work and get back to losing on 1500 calories a day.

ChookKeeper · 13/09/2012 19:46

Great to hear you had a wonderful time EightToSixer , even better that you maintained while you were there.

Enjoy your baby cinnamon the time goes all too quickly. Mine are 18 and 15 and I really can't blame baby weight any more Grin

Today is weigh day for me and I'm delighted to have lost another 3lbs this week making 22lbs in 7 weeks. This is despite having had a take away curry and a KFC over the past week, albeit portion controlled and logged.

Overall my nutritional balance is OK but I do need to up my iron though - any tips?

fluffyanimal · 14/09/2012 13:49

Hi everyone,
Finding it hard to keep to my calorie goal this week. DS1 with sick bug and crisis at work have made it too tempting to turn to food in consolation. And I've fallen off the wasabi peas wagon today. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. Weigh in tomorrow!

RGPargy · 14/09/2012 23:15

Bookmarking again!!

jchocchip · 15/09/2012 06:26

I started laking a multivit with iron. It says 100% rda on box, though the rda is lots less than the number on mfp. didn't weigh myself for a week as I was away, stuck to 1600 calories and lost 6lbs and finally broke through my lowest weight to log a loss of 1lb on mfp... parkrun today, so will eat a few of the exercise calories, yum.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 15/09/2012 10:54

Stood on the scales today and it was showing 139.8, then at the last min jumped up to 140.2, nearly in the 130's :o
Feel free to add me, same name as on here :)

jchocchip · 15/09/2012 12:00

Well done monster! I've lost this week and only 1lb away from 18 stone :)

OP posts:
RGPargy · 15/09/2012 21:54

Well done Monster and JChocChip!! So close!!! My scales keep telling me i weigh 16.1st. I've been gagging to get into the 15 stone mark for years lol. Sooooo close!!! Hmm

cinnamongreyhound · 16/09/2012 08:24

I'd have been tempted to get back on MonsterBookOfTysons!! Well done.

6lb in a week is great jchocchip, just goes to show how well mfp can work, well done!!!

You'll get there RGPargy!

So as some of you may have seen on mfp I've hurt my foot! I can move my toes and some of the swelling has gone down today but I'm departing whether to go and get an x-ray. Still can't really put any weight on it as it bloody hurts and I feel faint when I do. After having to take time off two weeks ago for sickness bug I really can't afford not to work (need to walk for work). So annoyed at myself and just want it to be better!! Can't run either which is really annoying me!!
