I've added you as a friend Smile.

2kidsintow · 20/08/2012 14:20

Hurrah. Thanks for the new friend requests.

PiratesKnittingTreasure · 20/08/2012 17:54

It's a real eye opener how much I've been overeating Blush. I haven't had my main meal yet and I only have 240 calories left - will need to make some major changes tomorrow Blush.

ChookKeeper · 20/08/2012 21:02

My biggest eye opener was just how calorific my eating out and takeaway choices were and portion sizes in general.

I'm 25 days in and have managed to eat out a few times and still stay well within my daily allowance.

I have 1200 calories a day so I aim for 300 breakfast, 400 lunch and 500 dinner.

PiratesKnittingTreasure · 20/08/2012 21:23

Choo, wow that's not a big allowance! Good way of doing it though - I used up half my allowance by midday! Big changes for me Smile.

smellylittleorange · 20/08/2012 21:37

shufflesin I am so very very rubbish at dieting [hangs head in shame emoticon] within mfp cals today but total rubbish has been eaten - dinner was forsaken for 6 squares of green and blacks maya gold- i need more organisation and exercise in my life gah!!!

The pressure is now on as some you may know I have a new job supporting future olympians within the University I work at . I will work closely with all the Lecturers etc who are all superfit (naturally) also supporting the students who will be naturally fit and healthy and very young. I start in exactly 4 weeks !

ARRrrrrgghhhhhh!!

smellylittleorange · 20/08/2012 21:38

mebutslimmer have added you - fabbo name!

RGPargy · 20/08/2012 22:31

Hi everyone :)

Well done on all the losses and welcome to newbies! Feel free to add me - same name as here :)

Still unsure what to do about my job. I think if i was busy at work then i really wouldn't have a problem! It's just the fact that i literally sit there doing nothing for most of the day, except when one of my bosses emails me and asks me to print stuff. I haven't done my job for over 25 years to be sitting here just doing "Ctrl+P" all day!! Hmm

Been feeling a bit low the last few days (fed up with having no money to do anything) but went to the gym tonight and am feeling quite a bit better so hopefully this is the beginning of me perking up. I HATE feeling down!!!

Anyway, moving away from all that, am going to take DD to the beach tomorrow as a little surprise after she's had her hair cut. Need to go somewhere that is well signposted tho as DP is using the sat nav lol. Last time i tried to take DD to the beach we ended up getting lost and had to come home without even seeing a single seagull!! Blush

PiratesKnittingTreasure · 21/08/2012 07:44

Hi RGPargy, have sent you a friend request Smile. Sympathies on the job, I'm in a similar situation and really don't know what to do.

Smelly, what's your username on MFP? Your job sounds amazing but daunting with all those fit bods - can you get some free PT off them?! Grin

2kidsintow · 21/08/2012 11:02

Thanks, Smelly. Grin

I'm doing well at the moment because I'm on summer hols with the kids. We are too busy to be bored and it is easy to fit in time to go for a walk or to get on the exercise bike. I also rarely eat breakfast unless it is a work day so that makes it easy to keep the cals down. I've also saved a lot of money as we haven't eaten out on a whim many times in the hols when we are out and about.

When I'm back at work, I'm hoping that the good work will continue. I'm on my feet all day at work, walking around my classroom and going up and down the stairs lots of times in the day. Structure and routine will help too.

I've not lost too many lbs, but my size 16 work trousers are too loose around the waist and my more generous 14s fit (hurrah). I'll be happy if I can drop another stone in weight eventually. That puts me a size 12/14 which I am happy with.

I have about 300 for breakfast (inc milk for cuppas through the morning) and like to keep 200 for a snack in the evening once the kids are in bed. To make that work I keep my lunches low cal so I've got plenty for my evening meal (about 500 cal). It also makes me hop on the bike to earn some extra if I'm running low.

Usual work lunches are salad with lean meat or fish (200 cals). Or I have crackers and light philly. And when it is cold I like to take in soup. That, along with an apple and a cereal bar and I'm good til tea time.

lisbapalea · 21/08/2012 11:25

Hello all - I did my first weigh in this morning and appear to have lost 2lbs!! So I am so pleased to see that the effort is paying off.

I'm quite enjoying the exercise (cycling / horse riding) and seem to be accepting the fact that if I want to eat more I will have to exercise more, which has never really been a philosophy I have lived by! The hard part is managing my greediness, and especially mananging booze consumption at the weekend - can't believe how many calories there are in a glass of wine! I think I will always find at least one day of the weekend hard work - this week it was definitely saturday when we were at the village fete and pretty much eating / drinking anything put in front of us (including a pint of cider for me - my first since uni days I think!), and then rounded the day off with a chinese takeaway - oops!

Fingers crossed the weight keeps moving off though, if I stay good for 6 days of the week, and have the odd blip on one day!

Do people tend to find the weight comes off steadily or does it depend on time of your cycle etc? I guess I am secretly hoping that I'll have a random week where I lose a stone without trying - ha ha, as if!

smellylittleorange · 21/08/2012 13:04

RGPargy and PiratesKnittingTreasure I was in my job for 9years before I made this decision to move - I truly believe that boredom aids weight gain ( also a student union shop v near by) Being part time sometimes I go back home and I'm bored there aswell. More routine, structure, online shopping a busy day and feeling like I am allowed me time should help fingers crossed. I was amazed when I got this job - people practically slapped me though - seems I have been underestimating myself ( a product of being too long in one job not appreciated blah blah) In a nutshell - just go for it get a new job (if you can find one) it will be challenging once you get one and if you don't will take up lots of time in the evenings filling in application forms and preparing for interviews so less snacking!!

wheredidiputit · 21/08/2012 14:40

I managed to not put on any weight while on holiday.

So although DH is on holiday for another week we're at home so am able to cook more normal/healthier meals for us.

PinkCustard · 21/08/2012 16:34

Hello just checking in as have been away for a few days. Doing well today so far, and managed Zumba last night and am off out exercising tonight too, so that should keep me away from the Maltesers.

Have been trying out the 5:2 diet and reading up on different fasting methods but doing it in conjunction with mfp and not worrying too much if I stray from the 'rules' as long as I'm sticking within mfp goals. Just trying to find the right combination that works for me...

sweetheart · 21/08/2012 16:48

Hi there, would it be ok to join you? I started using mfp yesterday and I'm hoping it will really keep me on track. I'm trying to use it in conjunction with a diet plan I've been given by a personal trainer in a bid to max my motivation but I'm still floundering, especially at the weekends.

I've been given 1200 cals a day which seems reasonible during the week but I know I'm going to find it REALLY hard at the weekends.

Exercise wise I think I'm ok - I generally do about 5 hours worth of exercise a week (sometimes more) it is my food issues (and drinking) which are my main problem!

I'm aiming to loose about 1.5 stone which I'd like to do as quickly as possible but my motivation keeps slipping - I think it will be much easier in a couple of weeks when the kids are back at school and we're back into a routine.

I'm also trying to break the cycle of getting on the scales every day, it has a huge effect on how my day pans out. I think I also need to plan my meals a day in advance as I'm new to all this calorie stuff and can often get caught out eating something I think is healthy and it ends up being a shed load of calories!

wheredidiputit · 21/08/2012 18:10

Sweetheart

Welcome.

I plan my dinners a week in advance (I'm power1969 on MFP). I find it helpful to work out my daily allowance starting with my main meal first.

PiratesKnittingTreasure · 21/08/2012 19:21

Hi all, well a much more successful day - and again a real eye opener in terms of just how much I've been overeating until now Blush.

Under my limit today though, now just trying to work out how to put in my exercise on the MFP app!

Smelly, thanks for the job stuff - I'm leaving my current job at Christmas as it's only a maternity contract. I'm actually a primary teacher by trade but would love to specialise in teaching children with literacy difficulties. I'm currently researching courses Smile.

ihatethecold · 21/08/2012 20:41

I have eaten like a horse today Blush

BehindLockNumberNine · 22/08/2012 18:42

I am another one who is not on here much. Am on mfp daily though. Have found sticking within my calories very hard since we came back off holiday and am very worried I can feel my motivation slipping away Sad

Need a good kick up the backside!!

sparkleshine · 22/08/2012 20:43

Hi ladies and hi to the newbies :)

cinnamon yes I think the whole weight loss is getting obsessive. When I started mfp and put that goal weight, to be honest never thought I would get anywhere near it, dieting on and off for years. I was just hoping to make some changes and now I have it's ruling my life. I think now Im close to that 1 yr point I realise I need to take a break. I just want to get another 4lbs off to make it 6 stone then will maintain for a while before trying for the extra stone. Was secretly hoping it would be by 1 yr but unlikely given its 7/8 days away.
What I will do is post a before/current pic on MFP profile and notice boards if I'm brave enough.

Feel free to add me anyone, everyone needs support and motivation, it does help. I'm sparklemummy.

RGPargy - it's a hard one making that decision with the job thing. My SIL wasn't sure If she should leave her current position to do something in a similar field but different type of work and for more money. With also TTC (for a year) she didn't want to get pg and have problems at new job/lack of mat pay/less work benefits. Turns out she got pg before making that choice but she still wants to leave. To get the full mat pay she need to go back for 6mths after. It's a hard decision of you aren't feeling satisfied.

PiratesKnittingTreasure · 22/08/2012 21:08

Wow sparkle, 6 stone!!!!!

So that's taken you a yr? Well done x
