I have had a reasonable day today - went out for lunch and had steak and chips but have done quite well balancing the calories over the day. My protein is quite high for today but I don't think that is too big a deal, is it?

And as for having a 'cheat day' - I read somewhere about remembering that if you eat 3 meals a day then that is 21 a week. I 'bad' meal means there are still 20 'good' ones left. Three 'bad' meals (or one day) means there are still 18 'good' ones - so don't worry too much if things are not always great!

twinkle183 · 14/08/2012 22:07

Evening ladies....

Have been having better days since I upped my calories to my BMR. I am so much happier in myself, I am still exercising like Trojan and loving insanity! Am on recovery week which is still a workout but not as hard!!! Smile

Am thinking of having a sneaky weigh in tomorrow to see if I have any movement in the right direction! Wink

Well done am not jealous to all the people loosing, that's great keep going!! Welcome to all the newbies feel free to add me my name is the same on here!

Don't worry about the bad days focus on the good ones!! Grin

Groovee · 15/08/2012 08:06

The way I once had explained to me was a car needs petrol to run. Our bodies need food to keep the metabolism working. So you do need to try and ensure you are eating enough otherwise the body will try to hold on to your fat stores.

exercisejunkie · 15/08/2012 09:02

Hi All,

advice needed, as the name suggests I love exercise! however I'm also a serial snacker, both healthy and unhealthy. I currently weigh around 11stone and i'm 5'5.

I did WW last year but the whole points thing felt a bit like a chore and although it worked..I lost 8 pounds in a month, I didn't stick to it and it didn't feel sustainable. I'm also gluten and dairy free and found I had to work out points for everything which was hard work!
so I've started using MFP, its so much easier to use, and makes more sense to me. my daily calories are set at 1200 which is totally doable, as its the summer holidays and i'm not at work, i tend to eat less during the holidays that when i'm at work...something to do with having set breaks and lunches and a team of staff who produce "snacks" after the pupils have gone doesn't help!
what I want to know is if I log my exercise it re calculates my calories and then if I don't eat the extra calories it says i've under eaten, I don't want to eat more just because I've been to the gym, i think that was my issue before (bigger portions because "its ok i've been to the gym"

i;m also not planning on weighing myself weekly but doing it monthly, my weight fluctuates massively at TOTM so i find it de-motivating to see this if i'm weighing weekly.

any advice or tips v welcome, thanks so much

FeeFiFoBum · 15/08/2012 09:05

Hi everyone

I am using MFP - just started! It is great Smile

I have a problem though! I am trying to work out the calories for a fairy cake by inputting the recipe but I cannot for the life of me work out how to work out butter or sugar (170 g of each). All the measurements are too odd, tbsps or cups, can anyone help please Confused

cinnamongreyhound · 15/08/2012 09:34

Maybe you need to take a break sparkleshine? If you are eating and not logging then it wouldn't do you any harm to be away from mfp for a bit. I think after a while mentally you know if you're eating too much or not. The dream suggests that you are worrying about it too much. Perhaps get to your year and then leave it a bit so you don't have to stress over logging in or just log in to keep your days but don't log your food until you feel more ready to carry on? You've lost so much and have done really well, perhaps you should focus on maintaining what you've lost for a bit and then tackle the rest you want to lose as a separate journey?

I never worry about being over on protein Dysgu, not that it happens very often!!

Glad you're feeling better for the change twinkle183, hope the scales make you feel even better!!!

Welcome exercisejunkie, mine only comes up as eating too little if my actual consumed calories are under 1200 (which happens very rarely) and doesn't do it if my net is under 1200. Read up the thread a bit we have been discussing eating exercise calories and I personally don't. Just keep and open mind and see how you get on. Also beware of mfp overestimating exercise calories. I bought myself a second hand hrm from ebay which is great!

There is one for sugar, at least, that is 100g, just takes a bit of searching try adding granulated to it FeeFiFoBum.

AnuvvaMuvva · 15/08/2012 17:12

Hello, fellow MFPers!

I'm loving it. I was in Edinburgh, eating like a PIG, but I entered every shaming calorie into MFP every day - including all the booze calories (many) -- and I have lost 1.8lbs! I'm sure keeping a record of it all helps. Somehow.

Anyway, I've tweaked my Goals and now I'm aiming to eat 1,000 cals a day (down from 1,200). Not got any reason, except I'm going away again in 2 weeks' time and I'd like to be another 5lbs down.

It's hard to eat that few calories so I'm aiming to boost my total with exercise.

That's it, really! Keep on keeping on! Or rather, keep on getting it off.

satd · 16/08/2012 09:03

Hello just started on mfp really hope it gets my baby weight off. I've been stoppin And starting for few months now so hopin some kind words of support will keep me on the straight and narrow. Start weight is 149lbs with goal of 112lb!

ChookKeeper · 16/08/2012 23:29

Hello everyone

I've been on MFP for 3 weeks now and have been lurking around this thread until I felt brave enough to jump in.

There are lots of great stories on here so well done everyone.

Not ready to post my weight yet other than to say that I've got just over 100lbs to lose Blush.

I've been really focused since starting and by sticking to my 1200 calories I've lost 12lbs so far. I'm wary of losing too quickly though so if I lose more than 2lbs next week I'll up my allowance a bit.

Planning to weigh once a week and take measurements every stone lost.

exercisejunkie · 17/08/2012 13:28

Hi All,

day 5 and logging is getting supprisingly easy! i also had fun in tesco with the bar code scanner!

determined to wait 1 month until I weigh myself which will be the 13th Sept, psycologically little changes like 1or 2 lbs don't motivate me, i seem to think 2lbs whats the point! stupid I know but its true.

I'm trying to work out what to eat for breakfast when I go back to work. I Commute into London and don't really want to go carb heavy as i tend to have carbs at lunchtime. any ideas?

ihatethecold · 17/08/2012 22:13

Make boiled eggs the night before.
Pure protein. It will keep you full up till lunchtime. Grin

Groovee · 17/08/2012 22:30

welcome to everyone who has joined us. Doing ok this week. Finding walking hard because of my fibromyalgia and my period. So have been doing wii fit as we got a new unit and dh has sorted the wii into an easier place to get it. Only problem is when the kids are home they chuck me off.

I also found out sex burns 300 calories so have logged it under That would be telling Grin

RGPargy · 17/08/2012 22:43

Hi everyone. Having a rough time at the moment but plan to get back on track by at least monday if not before. probably wont be before. I've got a DJing gig tomorrow that i'm a bit nervous about and haven't practiced for it til tonight so have been stressing about it a little. Have a lot on my mind at the moment about work and what to do about it. I work two days a week but go in and find myself with pretty much literally nothing to do. Dilema is do i try and find local part time work, take a half pay cut but top up with tax credits or do i stay where i am and lose half my pay on travel and childcare with no tax credits, or do i go back full time in London (where i currently am) when DD starts school in September and earn 3 times as much?? Am currently really fed up with being skint and not affording even a hair cut, let alone new trainers or even new undies without holes!!! DP doesn't want me to go back full time - he says it's not an option. Hmm

What to do??!! H E L P ! ! ! !

RGPargy · 17/08/2012 22:44

Chook - hello and welcome. :o If it helps, I need to lose probably around the same - i'm currently around 16 st 3lb and want to lose 5 or 6 stone. Blush

cinnamongreyhound · 18/08/2012 08:14

Welcome satd and ChookKeeper! There are lots of words of support here, feel free to add me on mfp too same name. Lots of people are more active there than here so get adding :)

I'm not really very good at eating protein exercisejunkie but eggs would be my suggestion. Milk is my breakfast protein but a bit tricky when commuting!

It's hard to say without knowing everything RGPargy! Personally I left my reasonably well paid job when I had ds1 to be a childminder to spend more time with him. I love being able to take him to school and pick him up but I do find it restrictive. Now I have ds2 we're definitely better off with me childminding than working and paying Childcare. I worked part time while building up my business and it was always hard to find things to do even though I was there the same days every week and people knew I was available to work, so very frustrating. Now I rarely drive I hate commuting so I'd go for a local job. What are your reasons for wanting to go back full time? Is it just money? Why does your dh say it's not an option? If work is stressing you then more days would be more stressful too? How would you be spending less time with dd? I often think about it as dh doesn't want anymore children and I can't imagine being a cm when mine are both at school but I still want to be able to be at school to drop them/pick them up some of the time. If I went back to a job similar to what i used to do I'd have to commute, someone else would have to take and drop them off every day and they have to be with someone else most of the holidays :( but that's just me!

Cherrypi · 18/08/2012 08:19

Hi all. Does what you put as your goal effect anything? Reached my first goal weight today. Yay. Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 18/08/2012 08:42

Well done CherryPi that's great! What you actually weigh affects your calories but not sure about your goal sorry.

tostaky · 18/08/2012 22:45

hello all!!

just wanted to catch up as im not logging in on MFP atm.
Well done on all the losses and welcome to all the new joiners!

Im still at my parents, eating lots of healthy freshly cooked food from my mum and im doing ok i think... well her scales say i did lose 0.5kg which is great as i wasnt expecting to lose, was just trying not to gain. i have to say the "not eating dairy" is a great excuse, i might carry on when i stop breastfeeding (DS is lactose intolerant).

cant remember who is SWPanda on Mn.... - was it you who wanted to try intermittent fasting? how did you get on and what did you do? Really want to give it a try after the holidays but not yet decided what "format" would be best (ie; 600cals for 2 day a week or fast everyday for 16 hours, eat during 8)

Groovee · 19/08/2012 09:55

Morning everyone. Lost 1lb this week which makes 7lb in 4 weeks. Very happy with that. I have been doing a lot more exercise so it could be muscle forming from the fat.

Next week will be hard as I am at Brownie Pack Holiday as cook. But think I can control what I will be eating by taking some of my own stuff.

twinkle183 · 19/08/2012 16:58

Afternoon everyone...

Well I was pleasantly surprised yesterday when I stepped on the scales and found I was 4.2lb lighter whoop Grin I am so much happier eating my BMR instead of a the 1200 I was just sooo miserable!!!! I have tons more energy and may the loss continue!!! So fingers crossed.....

Well done to all the losses... Wink

RG I am not sure what to say hun about the work situation, I left a brilliant full time job to go to uni to become a nurse and am finally in my last year... (mops brow)! Just do what is best for you honey.....

Keep going ladies.... Any newbies that want to add me my name is the same as here!!! X

cinnamongreyhound · 19/08/2012 18:31

Hi all, can I join you? Have just updated myfitnesspal site but don't have any friends Sad. My username is eddieizzard is anyone wants to be my friend Grin.

Lots and lots of weight to lose but need to do it now!

Groovee · 19/08/2012 20:24

Well done for the losses. I'm Grooveecar on MFP feel free to add me

2kidsintow · 19/08/2012 23:00

I'm doing well with mfp at the moment. I think I've finally worked out how to set it to a level that I do lose weight with. It's set at 1200 which I can find it hard to stick to, but def makes me get some exercise in every day to earn extra cals to be able to eat a little bit more. Seems to be working. I've lost about 5lb in the last 4 weeks if I remember properly.

I can't find out how to add people, even when they have put their names on here. In need of some more friends though, so please feel free to add me if your knowledge of how to do that is better than mine! I'm mebutslimmer on mfp.

Thanks.
