Evening all

Think I've just realised I've cocked up by not eating back my exercise cals. I'm not always hungry and have been struggling to find things high in calories. Will weigh in tomorrow and take it from there.

What an eejit I am at times.

ihatethecold · 11/08/2012 19:25

Well I went to the beach today and had stolen chips from the kids and a mint feast.
Then had chicken pâté on the way home Blush
And as I sat down to mn I swallowed a fly !
Do indeed to log that ? Grin

MonsterBookOfTysons · 11/08/2012 19:29

Urgh to the fly, I wonder how many cals it would be :o

ihatethecold · 11/08/2012 19:52

I've drunk loads of water but the b*tard thing won't go down.
Feel a bit quesy now! Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 11/08/2012 20:46

I think you lose it after just one day not logging in EghtToSixer :(

WelcOme AnuvvaMuvva, mfp sets calories based your age, weight, height, activity level and how much you've told it you want to lose each week.

Welcome Dysgu and arent children lovely! I've lost 5st 5 since November and my ds1 says I'm a bit thin but a bit wobbly!! And see above for the answer to your question!

I rarely eat my exercise calories Groovee, it's personal choice I think. Some people say you have to eat a certain amount to lose weight but I have lost weight consistantly without eating them.

Yuck about eating the fly ihatethecold, guessing its not actually still there just feels like it!

Had a delicious meal last night and was totally stuffed but we did have a 45 min walk afterwards which helped with feeling full. So tired today and have run out of time to run, not sure I can be bothered to go at this time of night!

Groovee · 11/08/2012 21:35

Thanks Cinnamon. I suppose tomorrow will tell

EightToSixer · 11/08/2012 22:09

Thanks cinnamon - though I think that's a bit mean of MFP. I'll have to remember to get wifi and log in. 6.5 kg gone now, which is over a stone. Yaay! (just another 9 or 10 to go now Blush ). I fancy aiming for 6 more lbs before my holiday to get below a big number, will be back over it by the time I return but hey yo, ill be on a once in a lifetime holiday so I'll cope with that :)
Well done everyone on your losses and keep it up to those who are struggling, we'll all get there in the end

Groovee · 12/08/2012 09:26

Have lost another 2lb and dh lost 3lb yay

cinnamongreyhound · 12/08/2012 10:37

That's great, well done!

karatekimmi · 13/08/2012 10:28

Morning all, welcome to the newbies and well done for the losses!!

I'm struggling with boredom eating, I'm attached to my DS 11 weeks old so when DH is out at work I'm raiding the cupboards! I keep trying to distract myself but not doing a very good job!!

MonsterBookOfTysons · 13/08/2012 20:00

EightToSixer · 13/08/2012 21:22

I have found another good exercise DVD for those who enjoy them. I'm looking for a bit more variety than 30DS level 1 and can't in any way handle level 2 yet, so I bought The Biggest Loser DVD for £5 on Amazon. It's great, I must admit the woman who doesn't smile drives me mad, she doesn't just have zero charisma, but negative charisma! But the guy is awesome.
I did 40 minutes tonight. Long warm up and cool down which is good and a good cardio bit with lots of boxing moves. I did the hip hop basics section too. Fun and fitness. The main thing though is that I sweated more than I ever have before, more than Zumba amount even, so I imagine it's good for weight loss. Time will tell.
Has anyone got any other DVD recommendations?

RGPargy · 13/08/2012 21:23

Hi everyone! Back from my hols now. Have over indulged in food and wine (as predicted) so will be back on track tomorrow.

You lot have been soooo busy with the chat!! Will try and catch up but in the meantime, I am just book marking.

:o

ihatethecold · 14/08/2012 08:27

I'm going to take a look at the biggest loser DVD on amazon. Grin

Jinsei · 14/08/2012 08:35

Feeling a bit depressed - I ate more than 1000 calories over my target yesterday and no time to exercise. :( Excuses were a working lunch and dinner with visiting relatives, but if I'm honest, I was being a piggy. Blush

I have been doing really well in recent weeks and don't want to lose the momentum, but setbacks like this have utterly demotivated me in the past. I know I should just forget about yesterday and move on, but I find it hard to keep going when I've already fallen off the wagon. Please can someone give me a pep talk to keep me moving in the right direction? One day of shameless indulgence doesn't undo all the hard work I've done in the last few weeks, does it?

MackerelOfFact · 14/08/2012 09:51

Jinsei Don't be demotivated by your over-indulgence. There is a school of thought which says having a blow-out every now and then keeps your metabolism on its toes, so actually aids weightloss. A thousand cals is only, what, about a quarter of a pound even if you didn't burn off anything whatsoever, so it's not a catastrophe by any stretch!

In other news I've finally hit two stone, which was my target before going on holiday on Friday. So feeling quite smug and slightly less horrified at the thought of swimwear! Grin Puts me at about halfway.

lisbapalea · 14/08/2012 14:25

Hi there - I am new, can I join?

I have done my first weigh in today (horrific - won't share the dreaded number yet!) but have been using mfp for a week or so to 'practise'!

I have a question - what does everyone else aim for in terms of weekly weight loss? Mfp recommends 1lb a week, but I have set it to 2lb a week which now means my daily calorie allowance (without exercise) is around 1,200 to achieve my aim of 45lb weight loss. I always thought 2lb was meant to be achievable but wondered what you all aim for?

I am planning to exercise 3-4 times a week. Until last week I hadn't ever really exercised apart from a blip 4 years ago when I was good before my wedding, but I am now going cycling 3 times a week for at least 30mins, and have just signed up to go horse riding once a week for 1.5hrs (prob 1hr of actual riding).

I am cutting out crap food as much as possible and trying to eat three simple meals a day with as few snacks as possible.

cinnamongreyhound · 14/08/2012 15:18

I love the biggest loser ihatethecold! The final show this year was amazing, couldn't believe how much they'd lost :)

As MackerelOfFact says it's good to have a 'cheat' day as my dh calls it Jinsei! To lose/put on a lb a week you need to eat 2500 calories less/more so if that's all you've done this week you will have gained less than 1/2 lb and today is a new day and you can carry on with your weight loss. If we don't have things we want sometimes we will never be able to maintain long term so think of this as a normal thing to do occasionally!

cinnamongreyhound · 14/08/2012 15:25

x-posts lisbapalea! Welcome! I aimed for 1lb just because it was more achievable and I wasn't in a desparate hurry. I didn't eat back my exercise calories in most cases so that increased my weight loss and I averaged 1 1/2 lb a week, I'm now maintaining.

lisbapalea · 14/08/2012 15:33

thanks cinnamon. I might aim for 2lb for now and see how I go.

Based on mfp I should be able to get to my target in about 5months if I am losing 2lb a week, which sounds amazing! I would love to start TTC for another baby (DD is 2.5yrs) at the beginning of next year, so this would mean I'm at a good healthy weight for that. Before I begin to pile it all on again with any pregnancy no doubt....!

My mfp name is the same as this one if anyone wants to 'monitor' me! Do I need to change my settings for that?

Groovee · 14/08/2012 17:16

lisbapalea I aim for 1lb a week as it's achievable but have lost 2lb's a week so far. Don't make my mistake and check you are managing your net calories and not gross. xx

lisbapalea · 14/08/2012 17:35

thanks groovee - does that mean it's actually better for weight loss to eat your full allowance, even if the exercise takes it up to more than the allocated 1200?

I thought it might speed things up if I ate 1200, exercised and used the defecit to lose weight? Or is that a silly way to look at it?

cinnamongreyhound · 14/08/2012 18:08

It's personal preference and depends on what theories of weight loss you read lisbapalea. Some people believe that you have to eat back at least some of your exercise calories to lose weight. I personally don't and lost at a rate I was happy with but with a lot of these things it's down to seeig what works for your body.

sparkleshine · 14/08/2012 18:19

Hey everyone.
Just had a catch up, seems you've all been busy.

Welcome to the newbies and congrats on everyone whose lost weight over the past week or so. :)
Hope those who have been away are feeling refreshed and ready to log again.

Well I'm so disappointed in myself. I've been saying for 3 wks now that my over eating and 'forgetting' to log the bad/extra food will stop but It's not been happening. Im having too many 'off' days. Today was a good day though.
I lost 3lbs on Sunday, though that's over 3wks so it's evened out. I know I've probably put that on, just can't bare looking this week.
My parents are away and DS dad only gets back from his holiday thurs so unable to go to gym for over a week now which so isn't helping matters.

Had a dream/nightmare last night that I was in hospital and couldn't eat and they had to feed me through a tube and were giving me the 'normal' 2000 cals a day and I was screaming that it was too much and over my allowance and i hadnt logged in and I'm coming up to a year now. They couldn't hear me telling them!!! Shock Blush
Crazy stuff!
