I typed a massive post and lost it!!
Good things to eat. Lean meat, eggs, fish, berries, small amounts nuts, whole grain bread, brown rice, grains like quinoa, small amounts of dairy, veg, salad. Yoghurt like total full fat is lowest in sugars - lot of low fat stuff has sugar to replace fat

So breakfast - think porridge, yog and berries, whole grain bread with eggs/marmite/scraping peanut butter

Lunch - soup, salad, lean meat, or (I try to avoid bread twice a day) sandwich packed with salad and lean meat

Tea - meat/fish, veg, salad, sweet potatoes

Snacks - yog, berries, handful nuts (high cal but good for u mainly), boiled egg, piece of ham

Try to have protein (eggs, meat, fish) at each meal as fills you up and stabilises blood sugar more

White things (bread, potatoes, rice) tend to give you a sugar high but then a quick drop whereas things like whole grains give you a slower release

hello :) just a quickie to mark my place - a massive well done to all who have lost! I've had an odd week - not done as much exercise as I'd like and think that I need to change from cardio and do a bit more to tone up. So I need a little bit of advice re: weights - ie lifting them! Where is the best place to start - am completely clueless and would like to be ready to show off my muscles when the fat has gone!

LollipopViolet · 01/07/2012 21:57

I'm going to go and get my mum a birthday cake tomorrow.

I am NOT going to eat huge pieces of it.

I AM going to get it home intact, this includes a bus journey...

Ellellie · 01/07/2012 23:58

Hi ladies!

Have been absent for a few days (super busy weekend with it been payday and all!) but back on it this week!

Question for the breastfeeding ladies. When you reduced your calories, did it have any effect on your supply? In particular, more fore milk then hind milk where you didn't have a problem before?

Thanks ladies and I hope you all have a cracking week! :-)

tostaky · 02/07/2012 10:13

Ellellie - I've noticed that I wasn't leaking milk as much and also some evenings, ds was chewing my nipple because my breasts were empty... So I upped my calories from 1400 to 1700 and so far it has been better breastfeeding wise.
How old is your lo? And how many calories are u on?

tostaky · 02/07/2012 10:13

Good luck with the cake lollipop!!!Smile

Ellellie · 02/07/2012 10:27

Hey tostaky, He's 14 weeks (15 on Wednesday) I work out my calories so im eating enough to sustain me at an intermediary goal of 175lbs. So MFP has me as 1750 per day, and then I add and eat my breastfeeding calories, so its 2250. I'm not sure if it is the calorie intake to be honest. For a while he hasn't been feeding for more than 10 minutes at a time every 2 hours. I wonder if it's just caught up with him and he's only getting foremilk? The reason I ask is (and TMI coming up!) his nappies have been green and mucusy and VERY smelly! I've been to the docs and am awaiting test results back to rule out infection, but I don't think it is because he has been his usual happy self since it started. So it could be what they call an oversupply issue (if he was younger?)

Gah! It was all going so well!

So LollipopViolet you are not going to eat a huge bit? What about a tiny bit?! ;)

nimbs · 02/07/2012 11:41

Hello :) Have lost 6lb whoopee!! I only weigh monthly - so that is in a month - but it's going the right way - but def. want to start toning up my tummy in particular - not so lardy but still very very wobbly so any tips will be gratefully received- Am slightly jealous of all these lovely little babies though - no chance of any more here would have to get a new husband ;)

cinnamongreyhound · 02/07/2012 14:52

CarpeJugulum, I haven't cut anything out but just am more aware of how many calories etc is in what I eat. I do eat brown bread but we have white rice and pasta. Soups are good for lunch, I usually have tinned ones. I have porridge or shredded wheat for breakfast or scrambled egg at weekends. I'm trying to have fruit/veg at every meal at the moment. Fruit and veg are good and am also eating the fat free greek yoghurt as a protein source, houmous, ham, chicken, tinned tuna and sometimes egg- but I do struggle with protein as I'd much rather be eating carby food! I don't like salad so don't eat it but it's good if you like it.

Well done on weightloss nimbs, 6lb is good for a month!

bexsybooboo · 03/07/2012 07:22

nimbs I do body pump and love it Smile all over toning work out with weights, that would be my recommendation Smile

Whoop pay day on Friday so can't wait. Have been struggling to eat all my calories and have been approx 400-600 left over each evening as have nothing healthy to snack on during our skint week week before pay. So thought rather than eat kit Kats just won't eat those spare calories, but think its a bad thing as stayed the same.

So roll on Friday where I can stock up on salads, proteins and healthy snacks Grin

Well done to all that are continuing on MFP, so good to see the losses, exercising and comparing diaries it definitely helps me Smile

nimbs · 03/07/2012 09:43

Thanks Cinnamon. Bexsy -is body pump at a gym then? How much are classes or is it something I can do at home? def. skint week here for us too - luckily not got anything more sinister here then rich tea biscuits which I loathe! Tend to stock up on salad at Lidl so it's a bit cheaper -salad for tea tonight actually! yum :)

ihatethecold · 03/07/2012 09:55

Can I just be nosy and ask what calorie allowance people have.
Mine is only 1200. Seems very low to me?
I don't have much to lose. Could that be why? It's based it on me losing a lb a week!

MonsterBookOfTysons · 03/07/2012 10:52

Ihatethecold mine is set to 1260 but have lost 2lbs since then so has possibly gone down again. I am 10st 2lb and BMI of 22.93.
I am also set for 1lb a week but am losing about 2 -3 lbs a month really now I am at a lower rate, I am planning on losing 12lbs more the strength training so will have a higher weight than 9st4lbs when I am done :o

ViviPru · 03/07/2012 11:08

I'm starting body pump this week. I do x3 aerobic style classes a week but I think I need a strength/toning session to work on the flabby bits, hence starting pump.

Bit apprehensive though, my sister went back to pump after a year or so hiatus and literally couldn't walk for a week afterward....

YouGoonie · 03/07/2012 11:14

Hi everyone can I join you please? I'm on MFP with the same name as here. I only joined yesterday but can already see that I'm going to struggle with staying within the sugar allowance. Today I've had cereal and milk and used half of it already!

MackerelOfFact · 03/07/2012 11:35

Congrats on the fantastic losses, nimbs and cybbo!

ihatethecold try setting it lower (ie. 1/2lb week) and just try to stay 50-100 cals under that. This is what I do - I (usually) lose more than half a pound per week but I'm not risking straying into starvation mode territory, which is counter-productive.

After a plateau that seemed to last an age, I lost 2lbs suddenly at the weekend, so that's nice. I still haven't braved the exercise yet though, despite downloading the apps. I'm really struggling to start, I'm too self-conscious about running, and once all the chores etc are done in the evening, the last thing I want to do is go out in the rain and run. :(

nimbs · 03/07/2012 12:00

thanks Mackerel - I do wii zumba so noone to watch me make a tit fool of myself as I too am really self-conscious about running - i generally do it whilst my youngest are at pre-school - so no one to copy me! I've started swimming too but on ladies only night so am not so embarrassed by my flabby bits! Swimming really seems to have helped tone me up a bit more - though am going to investigate bodypump after the recommendations here - to tone up my tummy(s)!

ihate - I'm on 1210 a day (for 1lb weight loss) - but exercise adds to that - I don't always stay under - and my body seems to respond better if I mix it around - and is ok for me to go over a bit - though it's generally more healthy stuff I'm eating rather than going over by pigging out on cadburys which is what I used to do!

bexsybooboo · 03/07/2012 13:11

nimbs yep pump is done at gym. Cost of sessions will vary gym to gym. My gym charges £5 for non members, others will be from £4 up. Is a great class though. Yes the first week is tough as you are toning muscles you didn't know exist Grin lol but I find pump addictive. Wednesday's is my spin day the other days can be anything running, swimming or cardio machines at gym Smile

Hi I'm on 1340 cals a day which isn't too bad Smile

nimbs · 03/07/2012 13:21

fab thanks bexsy - may have to wait til pay day - think my unused muscles will appreciate the wait!

aliciaflorrick · 03/07/2012 13:25

Hello all, glad to see you're all doing well. Weigh in day for me and another half kilo gone, this time next week is holiday day, I would really like to get under that 60 kilo goal, but I doubt I'll make it.

Today I've fallen into my old eating ways, I'm very much a snacker and have struggled with lunch most days, I don't even like thinking about what I need to cook or prepare. Today, I've had a yoghurt, then half an hour later a piece of fruit. I don't know whether this is a good or bad thing to do but it feels more comfortable to me. I'm not very good at three meals a day.

I'm only on 1,200 calories a day, which isn't a lot to me. I walk the dog a couple of times a day but I try not to eat into the exercise calories. 8.00, 9.00 at night is the worst time for me, that must be when I get a sugar dip because I've got myself a few times hovering around the fridge or the biscuit tin.

cinnamongreyhound · 03/07/2012 14:20

That used to be my downfall too aliciaflorrick but I run three nights a week which totally knocks out my appetite and since I have cut down I don't have the room for junk I used to, a nice cup of tea/hot water fills me up and stops me snacking too.

The less you weigh the less calories you need to maintain bodyweight ihatethecold so that's probably why. If it's too hard you can cut down your expected weight loss and if you eat under that you know you'll lose faster but won't feel guilty for going over if you leave it at 1lb a week. Mine is 1360 but I don't think it will go lower, I have some flabby bits that would be nice to get rid of but I am now a confortable size 10 and am well within healthy bmi which was my initial goal. I'm hoping to loose the last 600g to get to a total weight loss of 32Kg/5st and then will go maintanance calories.

nimbs I was lucky that when I started running is was the winter so I went in the dark! Now I feel like a real runner and even have 3/4 length running trousers Shock but I love it so would really advise you to give it a go (I was 13 1/2st when I started). All classes at my local leisure centre are £5.40 but they do a monthly thing where you pay £31 and get as much use of the gym, pool and classes as you like so as long as you go more than once a month you're saving- just don't feel that I can justify spending that much a month when I can run for free!

Welcome YouGoonie, feel free to add me same name as here! I am over on sugar every day well before the end of the day when I looked on the government website it says that the allowance should only include processed sugar and most of mine are from fruit and milk (which is higher than I expected!!).

twinkle183 · 03/07/2012 17:32

Right have decided to up my calories cos I don't think i am eating enough for what I am doing during the day! My shifts at work have been mental and I haven't say down for 6 hours today... Crazy Shock been punched in the face by a patient today which has knocked me for six!!!

Exercise is going well but always struggle with the diet... Hmm I hate the fact that I always say I have fallen off the wagon if I could just stay on it instead of falling off until my target but have fluctuated between 10st 3 and 9st 10lbs really wouldn't mind but really want to be 20lbs lighter (small frame, 5ft 3ins) Smile

Does anyone have a eating plan that I can follow they doesn't cost a fortune....??? Any help greatly received!! Xxx

cinnamongreyhound · 04/07/2012 07:06

Sorry to hear you got hit twinkle183 that's awful. No advice on eating plan I'm afraid I've just used mfp with nothing specific, sorry. 20lbs is a lot though, suppose you know how you feel comfortable.

I'm impressed you know exactly what you want MonsterBookOfTysons, I still haven't really settled on any final goal. It seemed so far off and now it's here ish! Dh was talking to me last night about looking at some specific training to tone the bits I don't like as he thinks if I just keep losing weight I'll look awful! It's lovely to fit in a 10 but my legs are still too big and flabby for my liking! There's a lot more muscle inside since running and they have much more shape than they did so surely just losing the fat from the outside will do it? Having only been this light once in my life its not like I'm trying to fit back into certain clothes or get to a weight I once was and I don't really feel deprived by what I'm eating so desperate to start eating more. Also as I gain about a Kg twice a month, then lose it back again and more. I'm worried about increasing calories and not losing it so gradually getting heavier, which I know I can always cut down and lose again but still not ideal.

bexsybooboo · 04/07/2012 08:31

So I'm struggling with my water intake, not sure why Sad as have cold cooler water in work, but never get round to filling my bottle up.

I think it's because I just don't really like it, so does your water intake still count if you add no sugar squash etc Smile

wheredidiputit · 04/07/2012 09:44

Yes. It's any fluid intake counts. here from the BBC
