BIWI's Two Week Low Carb Boot Camp - starts Monday 16 April

PaquesJeLeVauxBien · 06/04/2012 22:41

I've been back low carbing seriously since February and have lost a stone (almost). I have another 1.5 stones to lose.

It's been going well for me, but I have slowed down in the last month and I'm keen to get things back on track and up the speed of my weight loss. To that end, I have devised a strict two week bootcamp.

It will start on Monday 16 April to give anyone who wants to join in time to sort themselves out, get planning and generally get themselves ready to join in.

Who's up for it?

I think I'll find this a bit easier than alot of you WRT going without bread, pasta, biscuits etc as I already don't eat them anyway. I haev had a bit of chocolate recently but not that much really. I am just being a bit stricter and 'resetting' my poor ole tum and I don't mind losing weight slowly.
I hope I don't get crab flu Wink c'os that would be hard with the kids etc but I'll see this forntight through and see if I've lost a bit of weight .
Will we be weighing in or measuring our progress?

The only thing that might stop me seeing boot camp through but perhaps start to follow Getorf's diet (therefore no ketosis) is if my milk is affected. Because that would mean even less sleep at night and, well, I'm not going there.

But do feel free to crack the whip you know you want to

Tw1t · 13/04/2012 15:18

Yeah yeah, we hear you Wink

Catsmamma · 13/04/2012 15:45

ummmmm shuffles feet and looks at floor ...helllooooo!

May I join you? I have low carbed before and adore it, currently my utter addiction to carbs has taken me over so have really not done well since Christmas.

be nice to have somewhere to check in. :D

ledkr · 13/04/2012 15:49

Im wondering whether this is why i never lose weight-sw ww etc, only time i lost it was when got divorced-which was a bonus-. I am obsessed with carbs and also get bad pms which is linked i believe.
Will be shopping tomorrow, stil a bit stuck on snacks when i normally eat fruit.

ledkr · 13/04/2012 15:50

Hello cats Any shopping or snacking tips?

GetOrfMoiLand78 · 13/04/2012 15:55

I know it sounds really zero tolerance, but don't snack. It removes all temptation from the path.

I eat at 10, 2ish and about 8 ish.

I do drink about 8 cups of strong coffee a day and diet coke

I find that snacking (whether low carbing or RL) just makes me eat a load more anyway. I think it is better to eat just 3 decent meals a day.

BIWI · 13/04/2012 15:59

Welcome, cats!

Catsmamma · 13/04/2012 16:02

Thanks for the welcome! :D

getorf...are you caffeine free too?? I did that the first time, but a couple of espressos lured me back to the good stuff.

fave snack is celery filled with pate or philly...like the retro seventies party food...although to be fair I often have this at lunch cos I am not a huge snacker

teaandthorazine · 13/04/2012 16:03

Agree re: snacking. You don't need to. It's a habit, innit though?

e.g. I've just got home from work. I've had breakfast (two slices of Seranno ham, a blob of Philly and some almonds, still can't really do early morning eating) and lunch (sat and ate in my car Hmm - thinly sliced rare steak left over from last night, leaves, olives, capers and a few little slices of artichoke hearts cos I think they're quite carby, mixed with a horseradish/mayo dressing) and now...

... I poke my head in the fridge to see what I can eat. I'm not hungry. I know I'm not hungry. I don't actually even WANT anything. It's just that getting home from work = snacks.

Made a cup of peppermint tea and came on here instead. Seems to do the trick!

GetOrfMoiLand78 · 13/04/2012 16:05

Christ no, full on caffeine here.

I am currently addicted to espresso con panna. Ristretto with whipped cream. Bloody lovely, they sell them in Caffe Nero.

YY to pate (Tesco sells a really nice mushroom and liver pate which is 3g per 100g) but with little gem instead of celery.

Smoked mackerel pate is also lovely - I make it (smoked mack fillet, philly, horseradish and lemon, all mixed together and scoffed)

teaandthorazine · 13/04/2012 16:10

GetOrf that pate sounds lovely. I always forget how much I like smoked mackerel - will buy some and make it.

Caffeine is weird. I used to be a big tea drinker, never big on coffee. Have given up the tea in favour of herbal with no problem but... I REALLY miss takeaway coffee (e.g. Caffe Nero etc). I didn't even like it that much before low-carbing but I drove past a Costa today and really had an urge to go in and order a big bucket of caffeine. Didn't though :halo:

ShirtyKnot · 13/04/2012 16:10

EIGHT CUPS OF COFFEE?

Jeezus!

GetOrfMoiLand78 · 13/04/2012 16:12

Only little cups.

teaandthorazine · 13/04/2012 16:12

Little cups of triple espresso Grin

GetOrfMoiLand78 · 13/04/2012 16:13

Actually that is a lie really. I think I am immune to caffeine. Doesn't really affect me, can have a coffee and go straight to sleep.

I work with someone who drinks caffeine free tea as caffeine really really makes her jangly.

ShirtyKnot · 13/04/2012 16:15

Heh.

I cannot tolerate caffeine after 1 in the afternoon or I won't sleep! When I became this pointless wimpy bodied person, I do not know. Sad

GetOrfMoiLand78 · 13/04/2012 16:16

Really?

Mind you you can drink vodka made from distilled jelly babies without keeling over. One sniff of prosecco and I am plastered nowadays

BIWI · 13/04/2012 16:17

Top tip - if you feel the need to snack or are feeling hungry, have a drink of water instead. It's often a signal that you're dehydrated.

Also, re the Indian takeaway 'confession' earlier - I don't go for the full-on curry, as many of the sauces contain sugar or thickeners. I usually order chicken tikka or tandoori chicken, and then a mushroom or cauliflower or spinach bhaji. And no rice. And only ever the occasional nibble at the naan bread or the poppadoms

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/04/2012 16:17

I have had 3/4 of my minimum water intake and have been weeing all day

I like to share Grin

GetOrfMoiLand78 · 13/04/2012 16:17

Mind you I existed on pro plus tablets when I was younger.

I think I must have killed all my caffeine receptors years ago.

GetOrfMoiLand78 · 13/04/2012 16:18

Re Indians they bloat me terribly. If I have a takeaway I know that my weightloss will be scuppered for a bit.

ShirtyKnot · 13/04/2012 16:21

I've downloaded and printed a little booklet of indian recipes from the Atkins site - looks noice.

(I also existed on pro-plus - I think that's what's effed me up)

I've started today - this is because I've been a-poorly with a tummy bug this week, so appetite is on the floor anyway - I've got a bit of a headache which I KNOW is psychosomatic.

Stipid brain

teaandthorazine · 13/04/2012 16:35

God, I really fancy an Indian tonight now. Am on call from 8pm so might be up all night - will need something to stop me eating biscuits at 3am Grin

Think Indian food is probably the easiest takeaway food. Haryali chicken (spinach, mint, coriander, bit of yoghurt), mushroom bhaji, sag paneer...mmm.

BIWI · 13/04/2012 16:51

Just so's you all know - on Sunday I will be setting up the 'start' thread for the Bootcamp Proper.

Everyone is to turn up for reveille first thing (Grin) with their starting weight, and their objectives for the fortnight.

I will re-post the rules of engagement, and flipflopflap is going to act as Veggie Sergeant Major, and will post the rules for vegetarian Bootcampers.

moonmother · 13/04/2012 17:19

Grin is it strange that I'm looking forward to it?
