BIWI's Two Week Low Carb Boot Camp - starts Monday 16 April

PaquesJeLeVauxBien · 06/04/2012 22:41

I've been back low carbing seriously since February and have lost a stone (almost). I have another 1.5 stones to lose.

It's been going well for me, but I have slowed down in the last month and I'm keen to get things back on track and up the speed of my weight loss. To that end, I have devised a strict two week bootcamp.

It will start on Monday 16 April to give anyone who wants to join in time to sort themselves out, get planning and generally get themselves ready to join in.

Who's up for it?

Is there a reason we should be avoiding caffeine? I don't think my poor system can take dropping carbs and caffeine at the same time.

I'm, frankly, terrified of carb flu as I have had it before and my diet is so atrocious that it is guaranteed :(

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 13/04/2012 18:17

I am trying to ease myself in gradually, tonight for dinner I had sausages and ratatouille but no pasta, was fine (yes I know it is not that impressive, but for a carb junkie it is a good first step :o )

Going to the market tomorrow to stock up on veg and eggs.

Thought of something earlier that may be of interest to someone - in one of the Annabel -Karmel-- kids cook books, one of the 'recipes' is for veg 'spaghetti' - basically veg cut into spaghetti strands and stirfried instead of pasta. Might give that a go.

Do we actually have to post our weight?

I also fancy a curry now i may get a take away as i dont start till Monday.

Re snacks I leave the house at 8 and not back till 6 so a few rolls of ham wont keep me going long and so if i eat lunch at 12 ill be hank marvin by 6 and then eat the whole house when i get in.
I think some pate and celery mid afternoon should help.

Getorf I have about 8-10 teas or coffees a day Blush
Back in the day id have had a few lines of the old marching powder so im quite die hard but also a light weight with drinks too.

I will be shopping tomorrow so Asda better stock up on meat and fish.
Ive never even bought a celeriac never mind cooked and eaten one.

Tw1t · 13/04/2012 18:36

Pate would be great but I can only find ones with wheat in them Sad

WillieWaggledagger · 13/04/2012 18:39

ledkr re periods - I used to get really nasty cramps on day one and the low-carbing has seriously improved them, as well as migraines which were worse around periods

sinisterduck · 13/04/2012 18:40

Can anyone tell me the carbyness of beetroot please? Is it acceptable?

As I cant eat eggs can I have a few nuts instead?

LackaDAISYcal · 13/04/2012 18:46

Yes Sir, BIWI Sir

:o

but Blush at posting our starting weight...though I am doing it in kgs as I can't easily convert and it'll just be a loss, rather than an xlbs. I'm thinking it will make me less obsessive about it all Hmm

LackaDAISYcal · 13/04/2012 18:50

Tw1t, are you coeliac as well? I'm similarly ahead of the game on not eating bread, pasta and cakes/biccies. Pity most chocolate and gummy sweets are gluten free!!

Aldi do some nice pates that are gluten free. Similarly waitrose. and ime, the chunkier ones tend to be gluten free, and things like rillettes.
Or you can make your own chicken liver, mackerel, smoked salmon and trout pates really easily.

BIWI · 13/04/2012 18:58

If you don't want to post your starting weight, we'll index it. So you start at 100 and then every pound you lose is -1. So if in week one you lose 4 pounds, by the start of week 2 you would be 96

sinisterduck - beetroot isn't great. It's 9.5g of carbs per 100g. You need my carb counter spreadsheet! (PM me with your e-mail address if you want it)

You can eat nuts if you really have to, but please be aware that they get very carby very quickly - and if you're eating salted ones, that's a lot of salt you will be eating.

noddyholder · 13/04/2012 18:59

I have got stuff in! Had fish chips and mushy peas tonight as a final stuff your face fest! But am religious once I start so look forward to it

SharonGless · 13/04/2012 19:07

I'm in on Monday just tying o catch up now to menu plan for first week. How much is realistic to lose in first two weeks?

moonmother · 13/04/2012 19:11

Just been shopping for the week and got all the bits in I need.

Shopping came to a bit more £ but I've probably gone over mad on 'my' bits as it's the first time I've gone low carb and would hate to not have anything in and eat bread/chips instead. Grin

Only bit I'm a bit concerned about is the 'carb flu' , I found my IPD book and they say about it , is it really that bad? How long does it last for?

LackaDAISYcal · 13/04/2012 19:11

Nah, I'll post my starting weight...for all everyone knows I could be a 6ft 5 Amazonian and looking positively gaunt at that weight instead of a 5ft2 very cuddlyshortarse

MarzipanNPrayers · 13/04/2012 19:38

So, thinking of the following. Lunch at 2pm, tea at 7pm and snack at 11pm

Su lunch roast beef, asparagus, tea roast lamb, asparagus and cauli mash, snack tandoori chicken and lettuce.

Mn lunch Chicken wings and beansprouts, tea belly pork, creamed leeks and a few cabbage leaves, snack pate on cucumber.

Tu lunch tandoori chicken and lettuce&cucumber, tea cod in Parma ham with mushroom/courgette/leek stir fry, snack corned beef on cucumber.

Wd lunch chicken wings and lettuce, tea steak, cauli mash and raw spinach, snack cold beef and green pepper.

Th lunch tandoori chicken and cucumber (in car), tea is meal out, snack corned beef and lettuce.

Fr lunch salmon and cucumber, tea creamy chicken recipe, snack pate on cucumber.

Breakfast is 10am and will be ham and cheese triangle roll.

Opinions welcome, I know cabbage is a higher carb value but roast belly pork needs cabbage :o

MarzipanNPrayers · 13/04/2012 19:40

Are we doing stone and pounds or kilos? I am still a st:lbs kind of gal :o

ledkr · 13/04/2012 19:55

I just weighed myself and ive lost weight.Strange when ive been stuffing my head with chocolate and cakes Shock Now i think im seriously ill haha.

Speaking of carb flu my baby has had a terrible cough and cold for ages now and i think i am developing it grrrr.
Back at work Monday with a cold, great start to my diet.
Did i read berocca is a no no?

ANTagony · 13/04/2012 20:06

DH is up for doing this with me. He's not allowed on mumsnet though! He wants to include cheese. Is a modest amount really bad? I did very well on Atkins 8 years ago, between babies, but had cheese as part of my daily intake. Have thoughts changed?

BerylStreep · 13/04/2012 20:31

re the caffeine question; Zoe Harcombe says that caffeine causes insulin to be released, which in turn lays down fat.

In terms of diary, it can stall a lot of people - I know double cream is the start of a slippery slope for me, although others can tolerate it ok. Some of the stuff I've read says that many people who are wheat intolerant also have difficulty digesting diary.
