Can I say hello and join? I tried on Friday and spent ages typing out my background etc but sort of (well, did) got ignored. Maybe a late post is not a good idea and should try in the day

BIWI · 18/03/2012 23:31

Of course you can join!

Actually you didn't get ignored, exactly, because it was your reference to weekly treats that set me off on my rant about cheating.

But apologies that I didn't welcome you personally. (not that it's my thread!)

Creamtea1 · 18/03/2012 23:40

Ah ha! I must admit I didn't notice but DID pay attention to the long post about fluctuations. Currently having one of those days where whoa, a pound on from nowhere - and as was mothers day there was some cake involved. Expect that will compound the pound! Nevermind, fresh start of new week tomorrow and back on track - including no treats, bar emergency square of 85% green and blacks. I have a fish curry recipe I have perfected which I will post tomorrow, thanks for the welcome :)

morning all! For the first time in ages I feel back to yeehaa, its Monday! Grin

My skin is a bit off at the moment and after reading lots it means that I havent been eating enough carbs. Blush But still having weight loss.

Back to writing everything down and making sure my veggies and salad are plenty.

BIWI · 19/03/2012 09:11

Where did you read that, Jax? I'd be more likely to believe that it's to do with not drinking enough water.

Glad you're feeling yeehaa!

I'm feeling very stiff after a tough gym session yesterday Grin

TheRealMrsHannigan · 19/03/2012 09:25

Good morning all, I had a lovey mothers day and made the curry with the recipe given to me on this thread, it was delicious and went down well with my mum and siblings.
I'm having a bit of a problem with my appetite, it's now non existant! So not like me and I have forgotten to eat a few times which I know is bad for my metabolism, anyone else having the same?

BIWI · 19/03/2012 09:31

It's one of the joys of this WOE, TRMH!

Enjoy it.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 19/03/2012 10:31

oh yes biwi more water too.

vnmum · 19/03/2012 12:07

Hi all.
jax my skin is shocking at the moment too. just so spotty. I wonder if it is the excess oestrogen that gets released when you lose fat.

I am also joining BIWI on being stiff, although mine is from 1 hard session on friday and a complete new program on saturday. I found new muscles, lol

I am trying to make a conscious effort to eat more veggies as I am tending to eat less than the 12 - 15g from veggies and getting my carbs from lidl greek yoghurt (it is so nice though).

I have to go to hospital appt tomorrow with DH and will be away over lunch so I am taking cold chicken kebabs, cheese and salad.

I haven't weighed myself in a few days but my middle feels looser and squishier, if that makes sense, so I think I am definately losing fat from there, the skin doesn't seem as filled.

BIWI · 19/03/2012 12:11

I've found new places, vnmum! Grin

BIWI · 19/03/2012 12:17

Update

I have been reliably informed that shallots are 3.4g carbs per 100g

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 19/03/2012 12:36

thanks for the carb info biwi. I am off to the shops in a bit, so will get shallots and leeks instead of onions.

ah yes the spots... maybe that is it. They are around my mouth/chin area and my beauty therapist said that is the ovary area, so maybe oestrogen related.

More water going in today.

flipflopflap · 19/03/2012 12:49

After a frankly appalling weekend I'm determined to get myself back in ketosis and make up for the chocolate and wine Blush

I started the day with a protein shake and scrambled egg and I'm having a feta salad for lunch. I might have a veggie moussaka or something later and I've got through a litre of water already. Fingers crossed!

noddyholder · 19/03/2012 12:51

I am back on low carb today in prep for the summer! Nothing else shifts the weight and gives me the energy levels. have had chorizo for breakfast and having feta and lettuce for lunch. Sausages tonight with grilled tomatoes which I know are not strictly allowed but it has always been ok for me. Will enjoy ploughing through this for ideas. Don't want to lose much about 7lbs as I am not huge but am on meds which make weight loss very hard and slow

BIWI · 19/03/2012 13:20

Welcome, noddy!

No reason not to have sausages and tomato, assuming that the sausages are low in carbs?

noddyholder · 19/03/2012 13:25

Yes they are!

noddyholder · 19/03/2012 13:26

helen brownings little ones are low carb.

BIWI · 19/03/2012 13:27

Well no probs then!

PostBellumBugsy · 19/03/2012 13:33

GetOrf - I have refined the chocolate / coconut thing & have now created what my lovely children, call chocolate poo!

1 oz butter
1 teaspoon of cocoa powder
1 teaspoon of splenda or sweetner
1 desert spoon of sesame seeds
1 desert spoon of ground flax seed
1 tablespoon of dessicated coconut (or even better with coconut flour)
1 tablespoon of ground almonds

Melt butter in small bowl. Add all other ingredients. Mix really well.

Squish into an amusing shape (or just spread out on a plate) & put in the fridge for 15 minutes to set.

Take out & enjoy rich delicious chocolate refridgerator cake type consistency & ignore offspring telling you that you are eating poo!!!!!

Absolute tops I reckon 5g of carb.

OhCobblers · 19/03/2012 13:58

Creamtea1 · 19/03/2012 14:26

happy monday all!
am madly drinking water, tea, water, tea etc to try and shift that bloaty feeling - is because i had a very bad weekend with lots of badness, so feeling it today (scales as well). My question for today is how to keep a scales obession in check - i cant bin them, as thats how 2 stone crept on in the first place, but i am weighing myself like 3 times a day and stressing about it! every month i say i know my cycle but then every month when you have that 1 week when no weight shifts no matter how good you are, i get all :( even though i should know to expect it.

also as promised here is my fish/seafood curry recipe:

  1. put some oil in a large pan
  2. heat gently a teaspoon each of: cumin, paprika, chilli flakes (to taste), garam masala, turmeric, ground coriander, cinnamon
  3. add chopped onion, garlic, red pepper, carrot, mushroom -quantity up to you - usually 1 do a small onion, 4 cloves garlic, 1 pepper, 1 carrot and about 5/6 mushrooms
  4. add one of those small tins of double concentrate tomato puree
  5. add some boiling water - not much - maybe 150 ml? and a veg stock cube
  6. add some cauliflower florets, however many you like and some chopped fresh coriander
  7. simmer for 10 mins or so - doesnt matter if longer
  8. add a small tub (150 ml or whatever the small tubs are) of natural yoghurt
  9. salt and pepper to taste
  10. add prawns and cod fillet pieces - can be whole or chopped up - they will crumble as they cook anyway
  11. simmer gently for about 20 mins or until cod is cooked through (with lid on)

thats it i think! you can add or substitue any other fish or probably meat if you liked. it originated from a jamie oliver recipe and i sort of customized. have also used more yoghurt when i knew i had put too much chilli in so had to tone down. could also use cream instead of yog im sure. is good done in a wok.

BIWI · 19/03/2012 15:28

OhCobblers - looks good so far.

But - no need to weigh butter (or anything else, unless you really want to keep an eagle eye on the carbs)

This WOE (way of eating) is not about calories, so no need to count those.

Those chicken slices - were they from a packet? If so, did you check the carbs? Amazing how often processed meats like that contain sugar!

And one large glass of water isn't enough - drink more!

But good first day.

CreamTea1 - I am a daily weigher. It keeps me on track, even if it's disheartening when the scales go up. Because they will go up, sometimes without any apparent reason - it's just part and parcel of your body's daily fluctuations. But there's absolutely no point weighing at any time of the day other than first thing in the morning - all you're doing is weighing you plus any food/drink you've had!

Read the post ^ that I made about fluctuations in weight, so that you are prepared for the scales to slow down in weeks 3/4 and/or 5.

Creamtea1 · 19/03/2012 15:48

Thanks for reply BIWI. I've been doing (roughly) low carb since Jan so am on the slow part already, usually see about 1lb a week loss if i look at the end of each week. The wierd thing that started off the scale obsession is the fact that i usually weigh less in the evening than i do in the morning!for example, first thing in the morning pre-breakfast etc weigh in - say 69.5 kilo. Then, early evening weigh in (before shower so can never resist peeking at scales, also before dinner is eaten) is like 69.0 - wierd! thats what started me off because everyone else it seems weighs more in the night, less in the mornin - i am opposite! i have my dinner approx 8.30pm.
