Off in an hour for my evening in Brighton. Had to preorder as there are 21 of us so have gone for starter of chicken wings in garlic and black pepper then main of stir fry beef with onion, garlic and black pepper. Blimey I am going to stink!

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 17/03/2012 19:43

this evening I tried on some posh frocks that I bought end of last summer. 1 fits me and looks amazing on, the other still a little bit to go as it is very fitted and I feel a bit stuffed in it, but it was a good thing for me to do.

DH made meatballs in a tomato and garlic sauce and it was delicious. DC had spaghetti with theirs.

The chicken casserole is roughly the same as my 'recipe' I love it, such an easy dish to make.

I didnt realise onions were so carbalicious, will be buying shallots and more leeks.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 17/03/2012 20:31

Nice one Jax. I too like trying on things which either didn't fit a fit a few months ago or I looked unspeakable in.

I also have a size 8 pair of jeans which I bought 2 weeks ago as a motivator. They fit a couple of weeks ago but I couldn't bloody bend in 'em, tried them on again today and they fit like a glove and took less hoiking to get on.

Envy
GetOrfMoiiLand · 17/03/2012 20:38

They are asda jeans, their sizing is very generous.

There is no way a size 8 or probably a 10 from Topshop or River Island would go anywhere near my arse. Grin

lemniscate · 18/03/2012 08:57

Tra la la la la, I fit into my wedding dress, no bumps, no lumps, looking exactly as I did (minus nice hair and make up) 5 years and 2 children ago GrinGrinGrinGrin

Oh and the start to mothers day was pretty damn good too as nearly 4yo understands it now and keeps giving me random cuddles because it's my special day Grin

(I'm ignoring the scales which have not registered a single pound lost in 3 days, grrr)

BIWI · 18/03/2012 15:18

Lovely!
And ignore the scales - it is your clothes that tell you the truth

londonone · 18/03/2012 16:06

well done that is fantastic.

OhCobblers · 18/03/2012 16:50

Hello all!!!
Have been advised to come on here as i jumped on the scales today (i knew it would be bad but ...) and i've put on a stone and a half in just over a year. I feel hideous and can barely wear anything that doesn't have an elasicated waist.

Generally eating the kids leftovers and drinking during the week. I'm on a calorie tracking website but i've put off using it recently as i'm too knackered in the evening to go online and enter all the data of what i've eaten that day.

i've got a wedding to attend in 7 weeks and i really want to lose all the excess weight but appreciate that might not be possible.

I've not had a chance to read the whole thread yet but i wonder if anyone would mind advising what carbs to automatically cut out and which ones i can eat small portions of as i know i need "some" carb intake on a daily basis.
I do excercise a fair bit in a week so I'm not doing too badly there but i really need to stick to a strict diet for a number of weeks but which is manageable.

Can you help? TIA. (lets start tomorrow as DH cooked today and made breakfast in bed so my intake has probably been 2500 cals already Grin)

BIWI · 18/03/2012 18:36

Welcome!
Have a good reead of the thrread, andnit would also really help to read some or any of the low carb books, so that you understand the theory of low carbing. It is different completely from anything younwikll have been told before on a diet!

First - don't worry about counting calories.

Second, fat is good and is to be encouraged. Younwill find this very odd to start with, but trust me!

The only carbs you will need are those from fresh vegetables and salad. Green leafy veg and salad are best - typically the more yellow/orange/red something is, the higher in carbs it will be.

Do not eat:

Pasta
Rice
Bread
Potatoes
Sugar (in any form - which includes fruit)

You should base your diet around unprocessed meat and fish. Eggs are highly recommended.

Alcohol is possible, but in small quantities, and only occasionally.

Drink lots of water.

And finially, add your name and stats to the list!

AngryFeet · 18/03/2012 18:39

Survived the evening in Brighton but not entirely unscathed. Avoided all carbs during the meal but had 2 fruity cocktails and 2 glasses of wine. Bugger. Hopefully will still have a loss this week but will have to see...

BIWI · 18/03/2012 18:42

Well the wine will be fine - and if only 2 cocktails shouldn't be that bad. Drink lots and lots of water! More importantly, did you have a good time?

GetOrfMoiiLand · 18/03/2012 20:48

I hope you had a good time in Brighton angry - that doesn't sound too bad, hopefully it won't have tipped you out of weightloss.

Welcome cobblers. There are loads of tips on this thread and kotinka posted a definitive list up the thread - I don't know if you have pages or not, but it is quite near the beginning. She has posted everything you are allowed to eat and the basic rules of low carb.

It is really, really helpful to get a book, either the Atkins diet book or the Idiot Proof Diet by India Knight and Neris Thomas.

Good luck!

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 18/03/2012 20:58

hi cobblers twas me who directed you this way. Grin

get reading and low carbing.

eleanorsmum · 18/03/2012 21:00

I've now lost 11lbs in nearly three weeks. Am loving this dietGrin but I need something I can snack on. Been picking at ham and cheese when on a rummage but what else can I nibble on? Have discovered weight watchers yoghurts are very low carb!

Lovely to see others doing so well on here!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 18/03/2012 21:11

Well done eleanorsmum that is great.

Watch it with the yogs. I started drinking options chocolate and eating hartleys low cal jelly as I looked at the ingreients and they looked low carb. They may well have been but I think they contributed to the fact I didn't lose weight for weeks on end. Keep an eye on your weightloss and if it stalls, cut out the yogs and see if it improves. I really think that there are no easy cheats with this diet, it is very easy to scupper your weightloss by introduing a couple of dodgy things.

BIWI · 18/03/2012 21:22

If you are really and properly low carbing then you shouldn't be hungry or feeling the need to snack. Is it just a habit? If you're just doing it out of habit, ntry having a large bottle of water to hand and drinking from that whenever you feel the need.

If younreally are hungry, then a small piece of cheese or a hard boiled egg will do the trick!

lemniscate · 18/03/2012 21:47

Hello and welcome cobblers Smile

Lovely supposedly low carb meal here tonight. DH did Asian roast pork, miso aubergine and stir fried broccoli and Bok choi. He and the DCs had rice but I passed. So far, so low carb. They then presented dessert which DH had assisted not-quite-4yo DS in making. Trifle! They proudly told me they didn't put sponge or custard on mine, but what they didn't realise was I needed no-sugar jelly and ideally not half a tin of mandarins and some lychees in syrup in it. DH was so proud of his low carb dinner and DS has been such an angel all day and was rightly proud of his lovely trifle that I couldn't do anything except say thank you and eat it with gusto: smile on DS's face worth all the possible weight gain (and it was lovely!)

Anyway now I need help mitigating the trifle disaster. Any advice on what to do? Just super-strict low carving for the next few days or anything else?

eleanorsmum · 18/03/2012 21:47

Think it is habit and with the kids having snacks I want one too! I have found drinking a pint of squash helps! Must make up some egg mayonnaise and have a dollop of that maybe?

Am I right in following the 4% per 100g rule for carbs?
