HI all,
had an ok day so far, had a picnic in the park and took a tuna mayo salad, cheese and ham and some cheesy coleslaw so i know picnics are not going to be a problem. Anyone that just eats the innards of quiche how many carbs do you count?

Feeling crap from my cold, tired and am really wanting comfort cakes. It is a struggle not to give in. I don't really feel like eating normal food.

eleanorsmum · 24/03/2012 07:41

I'm finding this so expensive.

Have fallen off big style Sad and feel rubbish now. Having tough time at mo. ate rubbish now for two days and not sure what to do. Really need a slap round the face and to pick myself up! I want to eat stuff I want and be thinner than I am now. Not gonna happen I know but Arg why does stuff keep getting in my way.

Sorry rant over.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 24/03/2012 09:34

eleanorsmum it is more expensive to eat this way if you lived on pasta previously. BUT you will be healthier, happier and your body will thank you for eating properly.

I had a huge blip yesterday, mahoosive actually and woke up today feeling awful. I am now back to my usual eating habits (low carb) and gave myself a serious talking to, but I had to do it, just to make sure that I am better off not scoffing carbs.

vnmum · 24/03/2012 11:34

well I ended up having comfort food last night. But I am ok with it to be honest. It has dealt with a craving that had been getting bigger and now I have had it I am not craving anymore and am back on the plan. Surprisingly, seen as I should be well out of ketosis I am not hungry this morning and haven't eaten anything yet. Hopefully I will get back into ketosis in a few days. The nice weather certainly spurs me on to get this weight off so I can wear summer clothes with confidence

OhCobblers · 24/03/2012 11:35

Could i ask for opiniosn on this?

Last night i ate lean beef cooked in a little thai curry paste, a little coconut milk, beef stock with spinach/watercress/rocket salad wilted into it, followed by huge chunk of chorizo!!

Is that OK for dinner? I'm running out of food in the house (I'm noticing how expensive this diet is too!) so eating the scraps 'til i get to the supermarket.

vnmum · 24/03/2012 19:55

i feel bad. I had been strict all day then this afternoon DD started throwing up and she is one of those DC who doesn't give you any warning and just chucks wherever she is, so I have been cleaning that up all afternoon and DH came home with fish and chips and amongst all the chaos I ended up eating battered fish and a handful of chips. It was just a case of eating something that was there inbetween clean ups. I know it's not the end of the world and I can be back on track tomorrow but it's just that I feel it's not the best thing to have done. I feel like I have undone all the work.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 24/03/2012 20:26

Bit of a mixed bag here - I weighed in this morning and am 10.8 - which is a pound loss in a week. Which is OK I suppose. Especially since I found a bag of toffees upstairs last night and ate a few of them.

I also bought a load of goodies from the Indian grocer including a hige great big bag of chilli peanuts, and I have just eaten several large handfuls. Have also ordered a sag paneer and some chicken tikka from the takeaway - last time I had an Indian I was really bloated the next day, but sod it.

biwi about your fluctuating scales, how about the next time put a handweight on it, see what the discrepancy is, then stand on the scales and then work out your weight adding/subtracting the proportion of the discrepancy.

BIWI · 24/03/2012 21:36

OhCobblers - that looks OK - but why the focus on lean beef? You are supposed to embrace fat on this WOE!!! But it sounds lovely. Not sure about how many carbs there are in coconut milk.

vnmum - sorry to hear about DD. Hope she's better soon. Drink lots of water and hopefully you will be OK and won't have undone everything.

GOML - I don't have an handweights, but I suppose I could use a tin of beans, or something?! I think what I might need to do is to buy a large tile/piece of slate/wood or something and put the scales on that, and keep them out permanently in the bedroom. Obviously each time I get them out, and they're on carpet (even with their new feet) it's potentially giving me a different reading.

I was even more disheartened this morning when they said I now weigh 10.9 1/4. I feel and look like I've put weight back on as well - although I'm not really sure why. DH and I went out last night and I had too much wine to drink, but foodwise things have been OK. I think I may not be eating enough carbs, oddly. And I haven't been doing too well on the water front, so there could be a bit of fluid retention going on.

So today, after being very bad tempered about it (as well as hungover Blush), I have drunk lots of water and made myself go to the gym. I did feel a lot better afterwards.

OhCobblers · 24/03/2012 21:56

BIWI it was in the freezer and needed to be eaten, but don't worry i had a full fat beef burger tonight (!) with coleslaw and lettuce and roast chicken throughout the day!!!
I had very little coconut milk, no more than 100ml i think and the calorie counting website i use said that was just under 3g of carbs.

On a separate note do you generally stick to 2000 cals per day or more??

Thanks again.

BIWI · 24/03/2012 21:59

I don't count calories - that's not how low carbing works! One of the great joys of this WOE is not having to weigh or count anything. I just make sure that I eat low carb veg in the main, and try not to get my carbs fom any other source (bar milk in my coffee).

BIWI · 24/03/2012 22:02

... but writing that also makes me realise I haven't been doing that recently - i have been eating a lot of protein-only meals. So I need to address that.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 24/03/2012 22:14

err ladies, I have a TMI moment coming up - but the good news is I know the reason why, so thought I would share.

First of all I am on Cerazette, and take it continually so no break every month for bleeding.

Since starting this WOE in January I have bled for 4 and a bit weeks, quite heavily. Anyway, this week after some serious 'flooding' for the past few days I had a look online to see if I could relate the 2 things.

Turns out the reason (in a nutshell) is oestrogen is stored in fat cells, fat is leaving my body rapidly, hormones are trying to get out and regulate ergo a heavy period for a while. This should settle down and life will return to normal.

as you were.

Whippoorwhill · 24/03/2012 23:18

I've had this since starting low carbing too. Very heavy blood loss too. I've been taking Spatone in a glass of soluable Vitamin C in a morning and a Multivit containing lots of iron with dinner as I'm getting very anaemic. It finally looks to be tailing off today after 4 weeks and 4 days thank goodness. The scales were showing 2 lbs heavier this morning than on Thursday morning. No idea what that means. I've not eaten anything unusual so probably hormonal of sone kind.

Hope yours finishes soon too.

CointreauVersial · 24/03/2012 23:45

Jax - that's interesting - I've had the most atrocious periods over the last two years - maybe it was the weight-loss? I went onto Cerazette last year and found it absolutely hopeless, but am now on Mercilon, and that has sorted things out, thank goodness.

BIWI - do your scales need new batteries? Whenever the batteries on mine are getting low the reading fluctuates all over the place.

Anyway, I haven't posted for a while, as I've been busy, but I've been pretty good all week, apart from last night's chip-shop fish (with salad instead of chips), because I couldn't be arsed to cook.

QueenStromba · 25/03/2012 03:00

I'm amazed how this diet works. I went months without the urge to eat anything carby and since having one planned break for sushi last week I've been falling off the wagon like crazy. I went back to the same sushi place while drunk (on vodka soda) on Saturday and ordered a load of the non sushi stuff but everyone else's sushi came first so I ended up eating some of that. Then I had Thai on Sunday which probably had a fair few carbs even though I didn't have any starches. On Wednesday I behaved myself in a Michelan starred restaurant at lunch only to spend the afternoon in the pub then get more Thai accompanied by cocktails for dinner. I don't know if it's the more drinking or more carbs than usual but I didn't feel great on Thursday or Friday and didn't manage to eat much so this morning I'd actually reached a new low weight of half a pound lighter than before the whole sushi fiasco. I'm feeling pretty bloated and horrible now though because I picked up some smoked almonds while out and it didn't occur to me to check for wheat so I didn't notice they had wheat in them until I'd eaten about 20g. On the bright side I now know that it takes about 6 hours for the effects of eating wheat to become apparent so in future I should find it easier to identify the offending meal.

I don't know if it's eating the extra carbs or that's done it to me but I've felt awful this week. I've had a really bad depressive day which I've not had since I started properly low carbing. I've also been really stressed which I think is mainly due to the lettings agents harassing me about arranging viewings for the place I'm moving out of. Really though I've only felt this way since I fell off the wagon and I felt afterwards that I had eaten some wheat without realising it so I actually do think that it's wheat that has made me feel this way. I really do urge you all to try and go the whole hog and do completely gluten free for a couple of weeks to see if you do feel a lot better. Even on low carb you could be eating things with wheat in it through things like stock cubes.

Thanks everyone for help other day. Have been on low carb for week was going fine until thurs since then have been in ketosis and eating low carb. Have lost 6lbs. This will be a bit false as was pre-menstrual and had carbathon last weekend. This morning just weighed and have put 2lb back on. Yesterday ate egg and bacon. Mozzarella salad with roast veg. Steak and salad. Smoked salmon. Am in ketosis still. Any thoughts as to why?

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 25/03/2012 09:21

Oh thank god I am not the only one with the weird mensrtual thingy, but its good to know it will settle and there is a good reason. Smile

stress could be your carbathon catching up with you, the weight will come back off.
Thanks for link queen

vnmum · 25/03/2012 11:34

well I had a bad night with DD, stripping beds at 1am then at about 6.30 am it started from the other end so another bed strip and a long hunt for suitable alternative bedding as both her sets were waiting to be washed. She has managed a little breakfast this morning and some water so waiting to see if it stays in as last night even water was coming straight back.

BIWI I am going to drink loads of water. It is interesting that you mentioned not eating enough carbs because before friday I was only eating about 10g carbs aday for a number of days. Is this bad for weight loss?

Stresstoimpress · 25/03/2012 14:17

Thanks jax will be patient.
Just ran the sport relief mile felt very weird like I had something strange in my blood - assume ketones on muscle (albeit I don't have much muscle). Walked 3 miles back and just had a yummy salad smoked salmon olives green pepper avocado and stains bury honey and mustard dressing which is only 3.5g carb per 100 ml

BerylStreep · 27/03/2012 15:53

Hi Guys,

I really need a pep talk Sad.

Not sure what is going on, but I have fallen off the wagon, in a fairly major way. I start the day thinking 'today I will stick to it' - I am fine for breakfast & lunch, then come 4.30 I crash and burn - yesterday was particularly bad - shortbread fingers (about 4 of them) at 4.30, 2 hot cross buns at about 8pm, a fair bit of cava, and then chocolate at 11 before I went to bed. I actually feel ashamed typing this.

What is even worse, is that it hasn't really shown up on the scales - so far - so in a way I know when I am in mutinous form, I somehow justify it to myself that it's not so bad as I haven't put that much on - then I get worse. In no time at all I end up with 3kg overnight gains. I have been hovering around 89 kg since about the end of January, so I need to do something to:

a. Get myself back in control
b. See a discernible loss from where I am at the moment.

Any words of encouragement?

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 27/03/2012 16:33

beryl I replied to you on the other lc thread.

Hi guys, remember me? I was half-arsing around on a low to medium carb plan a few months ago. Well guess what? That didn't work. I'm back cap in hand looking to start again. Weighing in at 10' 12 this morning, the heaviest I've been in a long time.

I need to do this once and for all.

Had two hard boiled eggs for brekkie. T'was n't bad really. I just need to get past not being able to have porridge. Bread I can live without, same goes for pasta, potatoes, rice, noodles and couscous.

The junk element, particularly crisps is a challenge, but I'm equal to that too.

I just have to fecking do this don't I?
