You should be able to lemongrass paste in a jar in the spice at the supermarket and you don't actually need galangal - sub it with ginger. My paste comes out at about 3g per portion.

I seem to have managed to put a pound back on today, but I'm still half a stone down in less than 3 weeks, which is making me very, very happy!

Personal training is definitely helping. I am not allowed to slack at all and work very hard during my hour.

Please can I join you? Blush Previously lost all my weight with lighter life, but two pgs in two years plus depression have piled it all back on again Sad.

I have tried LL again but having no luck and the more I read about low carbing the more I think it's for me - I have a terrible bread and sugar addiction, bad skin and low energy, plus the weight Sad and feel a lot of this could be resolved by overhauling my diet.

I was thinking of doing Dukan, what are others experiences of this?

I didn't like Dukan, Dizzy. It's sort-of low carb, but allows fruit-flavoured yoghurts and artificially-sweetened stuff. Plus insists on an oatbran galette everyday, which adds carbs.

IMO you're much better off following a low carb way of eating which is based on fresh, unprocessed meat/fish/eggs, with vegetables and salads.

Hello Dizzy - I am sorry to hear about your depression, it is so debilitating. Really hope you're feeling better now.

I really didn't get on too well with Dukan - it is low carb but it is also reasonably low fat as well, which means life is joyless. Plus any diet which actively encourages you to eat cottage cheese should be ignored imo. Plus he encourages you to eat muller light type yoghurts, they are full of alls sorts and are really high carb. Those oat bran galette things are shite as well. Grin

Atkins is a good one as it is very easy to follow - you don't have to buy the book as if you go on atkins website (go on the EMEA one when it shows up on google) as it shows all the phases on there.

Also I really recommend the Idiot Proof diet by India Knight - I had it delivered this week and althoiugh I am not actually following it is written in a very positive way.

BIWI have read the Diet Trap Dr Briffa book - it's brilliant. Really easy to read without being patronising, and an eye opener with all the studies he cites. Really makes me feel that I am following a healthy diet for the first time in ages.

I know nothing about low carb, but would like to try. Can anyone give me a basic outline of what to eat (or not)? I don't eat any breads or anything anyway (coeliac) but probably do eat too much sugar.

Bugger, just wrote long post and then lost it Hmm.

Thank you for all the nice welcomes and also the info on Dukan/Atkins. I did have the Idiot Proof Diet book but may have ditched it in one of the many clear outs I've had of all the diet books I've bought and never used Blush. Will hunt through my book shelves.

On anti-ds at the moment but hoping if I sort out my diet and get fit the depression will ease too.

Dh is also interested in joining me in low carbing but he's training for a 1/2 marathon - should he still carb load before runs, does anyone know?

I don't really know re the carb loading, but I read a bit in the Dr Briffa book which says that carb loading before exercise is a fallacy - the book is well worth a read.

Hello getorf. Ta v much for the recipe recs- that's exactly what i was looking for, i reckon i can work around those recipes with your hints. The ingredients are easyn or me (i live in sw london v close to tooting which is curry heaven)

I do liek a thai curry - i am a bit balse about using jarred paste but you use somlittle that i can't get too excited. Lovely done as a very coconut milky soup with steamed pak choiwith lime squeezed ober.
