Oh and am Envy of BIWI and her dinner party! Yum!

Also I know I am going to cheat right after Easter, as I have given up popcorn and chocolate for Lent. (One of my part time jobs is at a cinema and this is torturous) But hopefully I can confine it to just the one day. :)

AngryFeet · 11/03/2012 22:27

Thanks getorf. Still managing to stick to it. Just need to increase my appetite a bit. But then low Carbing for 3 weeks now seems to have killed that. I often just can't be arsed to eat - never thought I would say that!!

Dinner tonight was a massive disappointment but then it was thrown together with what was left in the fridge at the end of the week. Chicken wings with no marinade are just nasty!

The last two weeks have seen me go up and down by the same pound, but this morning the scales were finally down a little more, so I'm hoping this is the beginning of more regular losses - even if the rate is slower. I need to make sure that I lose 3lbs this week to stay on target, so I'm going to have to be very strict.

If I can do 3lbs this week, then there's a fair chance I will have lost a stone by the end of next week - that seems eminently doable - as long as I can stay focused.

Gym is going well, and I managed to go 3 times last week - twice with the trainer and once on my own.

How's everyone else doing?

WI day for me, 2lb off last week. That's 8lb in 3 weeks. I've said it before but I really do love this diet. I've never felt guilty for eating and don't really feel deprived at all. I've just got some Mama Lupes Tortillas just for when I'm feeling a bit uninspired at lunch, but I'll limit them to one or two a week I think.

Well done on your loss as well BIWI.

Thought I'd add in my progress, although it's not really a week until Thursday I am just so chuffed the weight is going off already! I had a lovely dinner of grilled gammon steak, roasted asparagus, baby corn, courgettes and mushrooms filled with a little cream cheese. I am really loving roasted veggies on this diet.
Family party to go to next Saturday, I am hoping to shift another 4-5lbs by then so the weight loss will be a bit noticeable (I am only 5"2 so weight fluctuations of 4lb+ are very obvious on me).
Tummy is definitely flatter, I don't feel bloated as I normally do and I came on last week Weds and usually put on a couple of pound during, so to be -4lb is amazing! (Sorry for the TMI)

GetOrfMoiiLand · 12/03/2012 10:37

Well done BIWI, flipflop and Mrshannigan.

Oh I am pissed off. I have spent the last 3 weeks or so going up and down the same few pounds, I haven't actually had a material loss in ages. I was 10.11 yesterday, this morning I was 10.13. Really feel bloody despondent.

I was really well behaved last week, ditto the weekend, and I am working out every day. I satick to about 1200 cals a day and eat 3 meals. It just seems to have stopped bloody working. Perhaps i am eating too much fat? I seem to have mayonnaise and cream cheese a lot. But I have cut out the cheese (apart from philly). Perhaps it is the sugar free jelly? Or my one treat (options hot chocolate of which I have one a day). I don't bloody know. Just pissed off with being (in my eyes) very good and just losing and putting on the same 3lbs.

I am tempted to do a more dukan-ish diet - so low fat and low carb, and alternate vegetable and protein days. But how JOYLESS would eating be then?

Bloody hell.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 12/03/2012 10:41

morning, Ive had a good weekend, lots of walking at Crufts (must have been miles) dogs had some fab walks too over the weekend. I weighed myself this morning and I am still the same. Sad BUT I have lost an inch off my waist.

So at least I know something is happening, and my rings on my fingers are twirling around so fat is removing itself from my body. Think I need to drink more water though.

TheRealMrsHannigan · 12/03/2012 10:51

GOML , Have you tried varying your exercise? So if you normally cycle (for example) try running or swimming instead? Apparently our bodies stabilise and get used to the same form of exercise, likewise with timings, if you do morning workouts switch to evenings etc?

Also, have you tried measuring yourself like Jax? You may be using inches where you are toning up and replacing fat with lean muscle, so not noticing weight loss but still changing shape?

TheRealMrsHannigan · 12/03/2012 11:53

Quick question - checked todays lunch menu, and it's pork with chinese five spice and stir fried mixed vegetables, is the 5 spice ok for me to have?

AngryFeet · 12/03/2012 11:54

Morning all!

Did Zumba this morning although a bit annoyed as scales were saying 13st 2.25 yesterday and are now saying 13st 3. WI not till tomorrow so hope it drops down again :)

In a rush so only managed a few pieces of marinaded tofu for breakfast, Going to go and grab something nice for lunch to make up for it :)

Have a good day all.

lemniscate · 12/03/2012 12:06

Five spice in itself is fine - combo of cinnamon, cloves, pepper, star anise and something else I can't remember Smile totally yummy :)

GetOrfMoiiLand · 12/03/2012 12:14

Thanks MrsH. I do vary my exercise a bit, I have 4 workout DVDs and out of sheer boredom always change those around, and also have an elliptical trainer which I use, and a treadmill.

I also went for a speedwalk through the streets of Gloucester last weekend (what a twat I looked as well Grin).

No, I never measured myslef from the start, I wish I had now.

AngryFeet · 12/03/2012 13:12

Just had a yummy and quick lunch. Popped into waitrose and grabbed a chicken korma ready meal and some tenderstem broccoli (they do mini bags that you can microwave in the prepared veg shelves). Half the korma was only 2.2g carbs and the broccoli was 1.4g. I am completely stuffed!

CointreauVersial · 12/03/2012 13:24

My lunch today was a plateful of over-roasted veg left over from yesterday's lunch, with grated cheese, very tasty.

GOML - stick with it! You don't want to do any "joyless" diets, surely? I think we do stall sometimes on the weight front, but, like a few others have mentioned, the loss in inches is what matters. Loose waistbands, rings slipping off.....these are the things I look out for. When I first started low-carbing, my scales broke. My mum told me not to bother buying new scales, as she would give me her old ones, but it was a few weeks before they came my way, and it was strangely liberating not to weigh myself for a long stretch of time, then found I really had lost weight, none of this pound-on-pound-off trauma.

CointreauVersial · 12/03/2012 13:25

Over-roasted?? No, they were oven-roasted, for the perfect length of time!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 12/03/2012 13:38

lol at over-roasted. Grin That is what you would get in my house. Grin

I know you are right - I have had a look at some low carb forums and plently of people have had weight loss stalls there for weeks, and then suddenly things have started moving again.

I should stop obsessing with the weightloss. I just wish I had measured myself at the start. I do look a lot better, I am very toned, and a lot slimmer - I am wearing a shift dress today that looks like a bag of washing because it is very loose. My skin is also better than it ever has been (all that smoked salmon). I just thought I would keep on losing the weight - it is just very demoralising to be good and have weight go on.

AngryFeet · 12/03/2012 13:50

Oh crap. Friends birthday on Saturday and she has just booked a Thai restaurant - what can I eat there that is low carb?

BIWI · 12/03/2012 13:54

GOML - I suspect you could be suffering from 'carb creep' - you sound like you could be eating more carbs than when you first started this WOE. Certainly you will be getting carbs from Philly, as well as the mayonnaise and the hot chocolate - and that's before you add in carbs from any veg/salad.

I also wonder about restricting your calories. I know it's hugely counter-intuitive, but you can eat too little. With low carbing there shouldn't really be any need to count calories. (Not that means you have permission to pig out massively at any opportunity! Grin)

Personally, if you're stalling, I would:

  • give up the sugar-free jelly/hot chocolate; some people apparently find that their bodies respond in the same way to sugar-free stuff as they do to sugar
  • make sure you're drinking plenty of water
  • if you're drinking diet drinks, cut those out
  • add more fat into your diet, from meat/olive oil/butter
  • cut down on dairy - especially cheese and cream
  • check your salt levels

It's immensely frustrating when you see the scales moving up and down by the same amount. I've just had that for the last couple of weeks.

But stick to it. Don't go down the Dukan route. I really didn't like it - full of artificial, low-fat stuff, and it's not really low carb either.

If low carbing has been working for you as well it has until recently, it will work for you again.

One final thing - try keeping a food diary for a few weeks, and being really careful to write down everything that you're eating and drinking. If you marry that up with your weight it could help you to see what works/doesn't work for you.

PostBellumBugsy · 12/03/2012 13:55

Well done everyone who is losing & who survived the various social occasions.

I survived a dinner party on Saturday night. Stuck with the olives on arrival (shunning the delicious looking blinis & home made cheese sticks), for main course I had the meat, accepted a tiny portion of rice, which I largely left and ate all the veg. Pudding was chocolate cheesecake. I ate the cheesy bit and very rudely left the crushed biscuit bottom bit. Only had 2 glasses of champers & fizzy water thereafter.

GetOrf, stalling is very frustrating. Don't think you should cut back the fat though, as your body will just go into famine mode (given that 1200cals is quite low) and it will be even harder to lose. I think sometimes you just have to accept that you will feel slimmer, without weighing slimmer. Also, you are doing quite a bit of exercise, so you will be retaining & possibly gaining muscle tissue, which weighs loads more than the flubber. Don't give up hope!!!!

BIWI · 12/03/2012 13:57

Angryfeet - very little, sadly Sad. Thai is one of the worst cuisines for low carbing, as there is a lot of sugar in everything.

Does the restaurant have a website? If so, see if they have their menu online - at least you have forewarning of what to expect.

If we go for Thai, the 'safest' things I have found are:

  • chicken satay (minus the satay sauce, sadly!)
  • Crying Tiger - a sirloin steak dish, with only minimal sauce
  • stir-fried vegetables - usually just done in some kind of light soy/fish sauce in our local restaurant

But it's not easy!

BIWI · 12/03/2012 13:59

Also - yum nua - beef salad. I think there may be sugar in the dressing, but it's probably a reasonably safe bet.

I would try and make sure that the rest of the day you have had a carb-free day!

AngryFeet · 12/03/2012 14:09

Here is the menu

I haven't really eaten Thai before so it is very hard to know what is ok!

BIWI · 12/03/2012 14:12

I'd be tempted to send them an e-mail, as they have one on the website, and ask them for their dishes which don't contain sugar/carbs!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 12/03/2012 14:15

genuine lol at satay (but without satay sauce).

Looking at what you have written BIWI I think you are right. I am logging everything I eat apart from the hot chocolate and jellies - I think 'oh they are only a few carbs' but presumably they do add up. And the cream cheese and mayo, plus eating a lump of cheese like a big mouse every time I go near the kitchen.

I am certainly a lot less strict than when i started on this diet. That must be the key - I am going to start being honest with myself and a lot more strict.

i didn't like Dukan. Itwas miserable and pretty much full of shite, really. YUK at the thought of eating fish sticks, for instance.

I have got to be more realistic I think. I am eating well and do not feel deprived (I dread the day I get sick of smoked salmon, though). I know that I will loathe Dukaning, and it will end up like the last time, I will get sick of the sight of the Dukan book and then go and buy a packet of doritos and a baguette out of sheer bad temper and rage. Grin

Right. Onwards and upwards. No more hot choc and no more jelly and less dairy.

BIWI · 12/03/2012 14:18

... and more fat/calories ...
