Ah Knotty - here's a calorie free hug to you. Sorry you're feeling wobbly. I think its good that DS feels so attached to you- he knows you're there for him. The idea of being separated from parents is really hard to take at any age, let alone primary school age. Has he read/had read to him/watched the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (starts off with evacuated children) and the rest of the Narnia books? If they're talking about evacuations, may be something that may soften the horror of it abit. And so sorry to hear about your uncle - fingers crossed it hasnt spread and he responds well to treatment. Hugs again.

And my sugar cravings have definitely dipped in intensity (maybe because aunt flo is coming to an end though) but have noticed is harder to ramp up the exercise.

knottyhair · 10/11/2011 12:08

Thanks Dinky, I may try and get the film on DVD to watch with him Smile.

LadyBuzz · 10/11/2011 15:49

knotty fingers crossed for good news about your uncle. Your DS sounds like a real sweetie. Bless him.

My sausage casserole smells lush!

thedogwalker · 10/11/2011 17:21

Knotty more hugs beign sent your way from me to you and your DS. Really hope things improve for your uncle, fingers x.
Dinky I think you deserve a chocolate after all that yoghurt and boiled egg malarky, go on treat yourself, just don't do what I would do and eat them all mindlessley Blush
Lady that reminds me I've got a brand new slow cooker in my cupboard which I have never used, must get it out and use it, will make my life much easier. I'd forgotten all about it.
Take care all xx

knottyhair · 10/11/2011 17:30

Thanks you lovely ladies! DS seemed a lot better when I picked him up, and he's been snuggled on the sofa watching Scooby Doo and eating crumpets before he goes to Beavers. My uncle gets his next set of results on Monday so we're keeping everything crossed.

LadyBuzz, enjoy your sausage casserole - I want one now!

dinkystinky · 11/11/2011 08:51

Morning all. Hope you enjoyed your sausage casserole last night LadyBuzz.

Am 10 stone 4lbs this morning so loss of 2lbs - though I know its because I've been trying to break the sugar habit through protein only eating for a few days. Hope everyone elses weighins go well.

knottyhair · 11/11/2011 10:03

Well done Dinky - great loss!

Was going to do Jillian this morning but when I realised what I've got to get done today, I've had to leave it. Have already made cherry vodka to put away for Christmas, got to make a pork & rosemary lasagne for tonight and DP is finally putting our lovely new front door in, which means for reasons too boring to go into, I have to clear out the room that should be our living room but has turned into a junk room over time. Could be a long job.... Good luck to everyone weighing in today xx

justaminute · 11/11/2011 14:46

Glad to hear your Ds has perked up Knotty. I often forget how the dcs' brains work and will often say something quite flipantly then look at their faces and realise they have taken it literally. iykwim

Well done on the loss Dinky. I might try the high protein thing as I've had a shocker today. The scales are showing + 5lb - eek! Shock I had to double check that a small animal hadn't jumped on with me! I'm hoping/ praying that it is a minor water retention blip or the scales are having a "moment". Sadly I think it could be true as my legs look like overstuffed sausages in my jeans today Blush

I'm walking like quasimodo (sp) today as I've played 3 games of netball and one shred session this week so the gain is particularly gruelling. Think I need to be more honest on MFP I have a habit of forgetting the naughty stuff.

Good weekend all, I'm off to boil a dozen eggs and roast a chicken.....

ThePaxton · 11/11/2011 22:26

Hiya, would you mind if I joined you all? I've been reading back on some of your great results and need some inspiration.
I'm 5'5" and today weighed in at 10st 11.6lbs. I've been trying to loose weight for ages and just can't seem to get the momentum going. I'm also Jillianing! I want to have a big push before Christmas. I hope this thread will keep me on the straight and narrow!
Look forward to getting to know you all.

knottyhair · 12/11/2011 09:54

Hi Paxton! I've just posted about BFBM on the Jillian thread if it's any help!

JAM, it is really tempting to miss things out on MFP but I know that if I make myself log everything, it really does stop me in my tracks when I'm about to just pop something in my mouth without thinking about it. Saying that, 5lbs seems a lot for a week when you've done a fair bit of exercise, so maybe it is something else?

4 circuits of BFBM this morning (standing mountain climbers are EVIL I tell you EVIL!) Making bean, lentil & tomato soup for lunch and beef stew with boiled potatoes & cabbage for dinner. Have a lovely weekend xx

OP posts:
ThePaxton · 12/11/2011 18:36

Thanks knottyhair, yes it was helpful and the less said about BFBM the better!
I'm on MFP and also just put in the main meals. When I did put in all my cups of tea one day it really was an eye opener. I'm now trying (and failing) to reduce the number of cups. I only drink decaff anyway, it's the sugar!

thedogwalker · 12/11/2011 19:54

Welcome Paxton, most of us are on MFP too, but I must admit I've not been on of late, I must start up again. I am fovantmum if you want to befriend me on there.

Well done on the fas loss Dinky, lots of boiled eggs worked for you Smile. JAM that must surely be your scales hun, good luck for staying on the straight and narrow this week and remembering to log everything on MFP. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Take care xx

knottyhair · 13/11/2011 07:16

Paxton, I'm on MFP as lucasmum if you want to look me up! And you're right about the cups of tea etc. I always allow 300ml of skimmed milk every day for tea & coffee. I weaned myself off sugar in drinks years ago - didn't take long, just gradually reduced it and now it tastes horrible to me with sugar in. Might be worth a go if you want to use the calories for biscuits something else. Glad you managed BFBM all the way through - I think I've only done it all twice and wanted to die . I like doing NMTZ all the way through when I have time, I like it much better! 6W6P is also really good, the second level is particularly "challenging"! She's also got 2 new ones coming out at the end of December which I've pre-ordered {keen emoticon}. Jillian commercial is now over Grin.
Having a rest day today, got to make my mum a lemon drizzle cake for her birthday before we go and see her later. Going to have my favourite breakfast of poached egg on toast, more lentil soup that I made yesterday for lunch and roast chicken with honey parsnips & beetroot for tea. Hope everyone's having a good weekend xx

LadyBuzz · 13/11/2011 07:27

Welcome paxton another MFP user here, I'm ladybuzz (how very original Grin)

My sausage casserole was as good as it smelled, So this week I will be experimenting further!

I lost just under 1lb on Fridays WI BUT I have not sabotaged my effort this weekend by stuffing my face!

Well done on the loss dinky and jam heres hoping it was a blip and it will have fallen off again by next week!

dinkystinky · 13/11/2011 18:19

Welcome Paxton. Knotty - your jillian addiction makes me laugh! Hope your mum has a nice birthday.

ThePaxton · 13/11/2011 19:30

knotty I should wean off the sugar, I've gone down from 2 to 1 in the last year, I've also switched to unrefined to make myself feel better about having it!!!!! I might try going to half. Did NMTZ today which was hard and I'm feeling it now. Hope your mum had a nice birthday.

Thanks thedogwalker, LadyBuzz and dinkystinky you're all making me feel very welcome. I've added you all on MFP (I think) although I've done nothing on there for two weeks. Will start back tomorrow. Hope you all had a nice weekend.

ThePaxton · 13/11/2011 19:41

Should have said, I'm dobbyssock on MFP.

justaminute · 13/11/2011 20:37

Welcome Paxton, as you've probably realised, Knotty is a Jillian stalker and walking advert for BBC Good Food but she has achieved amazing results - follow her advice and you'll lose weight. Dinky is another great straight talking exercise guru. As for me I have good intentions but just keep losing and gaining the same few pounds.

I used to drink coffee white and with sugar but went to Uni and dropped both as noone ever had any sugar in and the milk was often cheesy [yuk]. Met my dh at Uni and he did the same too.

Amazingly I have stayed within calorie allowance today. Double amazing as I made some apple and walnut muffins with cream cheese frosting - delish! Tonight, under the cover of darkness I braved a 30 minute run slow jog. The ankle held up but it was tough. Fingers crossed I can walk in the morning.

dinkystinky · 14/11/2011 08:55

Well done on getting out there and doing a run - AND staying within your calorie allowance despite those muffins (which sound amazing) JAM. Exercising outside in the dark and cold takes some stamina so you've done really well. Hope your ankle is ok today.

Paxton - totally agree with Knotty about weaning off the sugar. It will make a huge difference. Could you have a tea/coffee and some fruit alongside it (maybe half a date or something) which would provide the sweetness instead?

knottyhair · 14/11/2011 13:26

LadyBuzz, well done on losing and it sounds like you're doing really well Smile. Paxton, I am indeed both of those things JAM said Grin. I've lost 2.5 stone gradually since the end of January and am now trying to maintain at this weight. JAM, going out on a cold evening and running is indeed commitment, as is staying within your allowance whilst eating those muffins! Brilliant. Hope your ankle gets better soon.
I was all geared up to do NMTZ today but woke up with a really sore throat and have felt gradually worse as the day has gone on. Very frustrating as I really wanted to give it my all in the run up to Christmas. Hopefully I'll be able to start again in a few days. Had tomato & lentil soup with a few prawns for lunch and I'm making mango chicken with spiced veg pilaff for tea. Trying to include as much vitamin C and zinc in my diet as I can! Have a great afternoon everyone xx

Thanks JAM. I need all the advice I can get. I'm the same, in the last year of 'dieting' I've gone from 11st to 10st8lb and anything inbetween. I can't wait for the day the scales say 10st, sometimes I just can't see me getting there.

knotty thats fantastic weight loss. I think my problem is wanting to see results fast and when I don't I get disheartened and give up. Am down to half a sugar today and it's not too bad.

Quick question, when putting exercise in MFP, what do you put for the other Jillian DVDs? I've put the shred at 20mins circuit training.

knottyhair · 15/11/2011 08:18

Paxton, you will get there, try to do it gradually and you're more likely to keep it off once you reach your target. What weekly goal have you set yourself on MFP? I just did 1 pound per week so I didn't feel too deprived calorie wise. Also then I found it did feel more like a permanent lifestyle change as opposed to a "diet" IYSWIM. And well done for getting down to half a sugar; you'll get rid of that in no time! I put all the Jillian stuff down as circuit training on MFP - seems to be fairly accurate.

Still feeling rather minky, so having an easy day making an apple strudel and some tuna burgers for dinner later. Vegetable soup for lunch, and the burgers with a wholemeal bun & salad later. Oh and my uncle had positive results from his scan yesterday, it hasn't spread to his lymph nodes thank goodness. Starts his drug regime next week followed by radiotherapy. Hope everyone has a good day x

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 15/11/2011 10:07

Glad they've caught your uncle's cancer early Knotty -they can do amazing things nowadays with treatment so am keeping my fingers crossed. Sorry you're feeling rough still - take it easy, lots of fluid vit c and zinc and go for a walk or something to get some fresh air.

Paxton - as knotty says, slow and steady will win the race. Keep the faith and keep up with eating healthy foods, drinking lots of water and the exercise and you will get there.

ThePaxton · 15/11/2011 19:19

knotty Glad to hear about your uncle and hope you're feeling better today.

I'm aiming for about 2lbs a week, but MPF puts me on 1lb a week loss. dinky It just seems so slow. Good day today apart from the homemade hobnobs that the boys are addicted to! Only had three one.

knottyhair · 16/11/2011 10:18

Thanks for the kind words you lovely ladies xx

Paxton, 1-2lbs a week is fine, honestly you're far more likely to stick to it and maintain your weight afterwards as well. You'll probably find you get the odd week when it's a bit more anyway and don't forget how AF can affect things - I had the odd week where inexplicably I had lost next to nothing but I think it was PMT related. And I remember someone on here (can't remember who exactly Blush) told me early on to try to look back on your progress over a month, even if you're weighing in weekly, and that really helped when I had the odd blip. And really try to stay away from the scales inbetween weigh-ins, or they'll drive you insane!
Still rough as a badger's nether regions here. Have given in and taken Day Nurse this morning (helps with the symptoms but I really don't like the way they make me feel) to get me through the busiest bit of the day. Walked to Waitrose to buy ingredients for sausage, jacket spuds & beans for tea - can't be arsed to cook (must be bad Grin). Soup & crumpet for lunch. Have a good day everyone! xx
