From Mounjaro to Wegovy and back to Mounjaro

Hi all, I don’t know if anyone else has done the same but I thought I’d post my experience. I switched to wegovy almost 2 months ago because of the mounjaro price hike. I wish I hadn’t. I’ve had almost 2 months of food noise, insatiable hunger and chronic fatigue. I’ve struggled so bad. Yes I’ve still managed to lose weight. 2lbs in 2 months lol but at least it’s something.
i’m back on the mounjaro and already starting to feel less tired, much less hungry and not constantly thinking about food and it’s a much lower dose than I took before.
One positive I did get out of this experience is that I realised that, even with the price hike mounjaro still works out cheaper (for me) than wegovy because of the ‘5th’ dose and the fact that I spend less on food with mounjaro. I’m also finding that whereas previously on mounjaro I was in a hurry to move up a dose pretty much almost every month until I reached the 15mg, I’m only on 5mg atm and having a good response so maybe I won’t need to go as high as before.
i’m interested to know if anyone else has had the same experience.

@BigTightropeWalker It’s gutting isn’t it. I felt exactly the same way. What a waste of time and money. I did manage to lose 2lbs but in 2 months! I was absolutely starving. Most days I was eating basically maintenance calories. I think it was the few times I did manage to stick to a deficit that helped me lose the 2lbs. Like you it cost me way more in food anyway so I worked it out and I’ll probably even save money with that ‘5th dose’ included. I really regret switching to wegovy as it was going so well for me too. Never mind. We can only go forward now. We’ll get there!

Another switcher here !

I lost 3st with MJ but started Wegovy beginning of September when the prices increased. It’s been absolutely useless for me, I’ve lost about 2lbs in 2 months and at the moment I just seem to gain and lost the same 1lb. I do have some suppression but I’m also snacking way more and the food noise is back! I’m on the highest dose (2.4mg).

I’m a very slow loser anyway due to my underactive thyroid but I’m not prepared to waste any more money so I’m trying to switch back to MJ. I was due to start my next Wegovy pen on Friday and it’s just been sat in the fridge. Don’t know what to do with it!

Can you switch back like i did ,my wegovy is waiting in the fridge untill I am at maintenance,I didn't risk trying it ,after reading such negative reviews in various places

Yes that’s what I’m thinking- going to save it for when the time eventually comes to maintain although I’ve got at least 3st to go until then!!

i’ve ordered MJ again from MedExpress, awaiting clinical review atm so I’m guessing I’ll have to provide evidence of my Wegovy dose.

How have you got on after switching back?

@millenialmolly it really sucks doesn’t it that the switch hasn’t worked for many of us. I’m a slow loser too normally around a pound a week. But same as you 2lb in 2 months on wegovy. Plus of course the food noise was back and I was constantly hungry. Going back to MJ has been wonderful. I was on 15mg MJ prior to the wegovy but they started me back at 5mg which surprisingly has been pretty effective this time around. So I may stick at the 5mg for a while and see how I do. I’ve still got another 6 (ish) stones to lose.
Hopefully you’ll get to switch back without difficulty. I can’t see why it would be a problem. Good luck with your weight loss going forward x

That’s brilliant that you’re feeling the effects on 5mg- have you found you’re losing again? The other benefits of MJ are amazing, I definitely think it helped with my inflammation!

I had an email from MedExpress before to say they’ll likely start me back at 5mg, so fingers crossed. I did get up to 12.5mg with MJ previously and now 2.4mg Wegovy but seen as that’s doing naff all it’s worth a shot! Literally 😂 xx

I’m so glad they’ve approved your MJ. That’s brilliant! Am I losing again? That’s the weird part. I’m normally a slow loser at around 1lb a week. But since the wegovy debacle now being back on MJ it’s like my body has kind of reset itself. I lost 2lbs last week and 4lbs this week!!!! I’m over the moon. I stood on my scales 4 times this morning to keep checking lol.
Re the inflammation. Yes, absolutely noticed that too. I’ve had relief this week from my symptoms again. It was hell on Wegovy. My knees and shoulders were hurting so much. But that seems to have reduced again.
let me know how it goes x

My Mounjaro has arrived so I can restart that asap. Do any of you who have switched back know how long after my last Wegovy dose I can start Mounjaro again? Do I have to leave it a week?

Ahh that’s amazing well done! Fills me with hope as I'm a slow loser too! Hopefully I get my MJ asap and can get back on track 🙌

I was also wondering this. Didn’t take my Wegovy dose due last Friday. Hoping the washout period isn’t too long!

It was just the usual one week. Took my Wegovy for the last time on a Monday as usual and the following Monday started the MJ. Some providers say different things but mine (Asda) said just take it as you would normally. No need to have a break of any longer.

So many comments here reflect my experience.

I was on MJ for 9 months, lost the best part of 3 stone very easily, amazing food noise reduction AND the fantastic effect on my ADHD symptoms, then switched to Weg 6 weeks ago as I move into maintenance. As a pp said, I might as well have been injecting water.

No suppression. Just none. I've had to battle not to GAIN weight. Complete waste of money.

I've switched back to MJ - my next pen arrives this week. I'd rather use it less frequently due to the costs, than risk another penny on Weg.

Mhar · 11/11/2025 00:10

MummytoE · 04/11/2025 00:41

Do you think it will work for maintenance? I'm at target, I just don't want to pile it all back on

I'm more or less at maintenance after 9 months on MJ - I honestly thought Wegovy would be fine for that, but no chance.

If I stayed on it, I know I'd end up gaining weight. It's not in the same ballpark as MJ, nowhere near.

I absolutely don’t blame you. You’ve come too far. MJ is absolutely a game changer. I have to wonder how many more of us there are out there that have had the same experience.

Still been waiting for my prescriber to approve my order. I’ve been taking 2.4mg Wegovy and they’ve jusr agreed to prescribe 10mg Mounjaro.

I’m really surprised as I thought it’d just be the 5mg dose. They’ve said it’s ‘off label prescribing’ but deemed clinically appropriate due to the dosage of Wegovy I’ve been taking.

Has anyone else experienced this? I’m going to go for it regardless, even if I don’t take the full dose again to start.

Wow! Thats impressive. You could always take a bit less and get an extra few weeks out of it. If you start at 5mg you could see how you go. If it’s not quite enough then you can always step up the dose the following week x

I lost 8 stone on Mounjaro, switched to Wegovy. It does work for some people, so please don't let that affect your decision to save money and try it, but I am not one of them.

I am really active, go to the gym three times a week, do a long hike most weekends and do kettle bells before bed every day, but since switching back I have gained 2lbs, and am starving all the time, zero food suppression, and I feel miserable.

My provider wouldn't even let me start back at 5mg MJ after 2 months of being on Wegovy and showed no empathy for the depression I feel since being on this stuff. They insist it's unsafe for me to start back on anything other than 2.5 after 18 months of being on MJ (over a year on 15mg).

They also really annoyed me by telling me I just need to 'exercise more and eat better', after losing 8 stone gently and steadily on MJ (and still being clinically overweight although I dont look it now) I think that was pretty rude, they did not ask, just assumed I am fat and lazy, and showed zero empathy when I tried to raise how ineffective I thought Wegovy was, I 've therefore cancelled my order with them, changed providers and gone elsewhere, as if I am starting again I can start elsewhere, not staying with a firm that clearly showed no empathy or understanding. Did my first 2.5mg MJ dose today.

I just hope I start to lose weight again soon.

Oh wow! That’s absolutely shocking treatment you’ve had. Exercise more and eat better? Really? This really gets to me. It’s like they think those of us that are/have been overweight are clueless. The person that sent you that advice has clearly never been overweight. Wegovy has not been great for many of us MJ users. It made me feel incredibly anxious, constantly hungry, the food noise was horrendous.…….the list goes on.
i’m back at 5mg. I may or may not need to increase. So far so good. I was on 15mg originally.
Anyway, welcome back to MJ and good luck with continuing your weight loss.
I’m roughly at the same loss as you but unfortunately still have a way to go.
From Wales also lol
