From Mounjaro to Wegovy and back to Mounjaro

Hi all, I don’t know if anyone else has done the same but I thought I’d post my experience. I switched to wegovy almost 2 months ago because of the mounjaro price hike. I wish I hadn’t. I’ve had almost 2 months of food noise, insatiable hunger and chronic fatigue. I’ve struggled so bad. Yes I’ve still managed to lose weight. 2lbs in 2 months lol but at least it’s something.
i’m back on the mounjaro and already starting to feel less tired, much less hungry and not constantly thinking about food and it’s a much lower dose than I took before.
One positive I did get out of this experience is that I realised that, even with the price hike mounjaro still works out cheaper (for me) than wegovy because of the ‘5th’ dose and the fact that I spend less on food with mounjaro. I’m also finding that whereas previously on mounjaro I was in a hurry to move up a dose pretty much almost every month until I reached the 15mg, I’m only on 5mg atm and having a good response so maybe I won’t need to go as high as before.
i’m interested to know if anyone else has had the same experience.

Oh jeez this is really not what I wanted to hear... My wegovy is en route, after a year of mj. I hope being back on mounjaro works out for you. It's just not financially viable for me

CallMeStella · 04/11/2025 00:28

Same as me, I’ve had two months of wegovy and it’s like I’ve been injecting water. About to go back to MJ once I decide which dose to go for

Pugdays5 · 04/11/2025 00:37

I went from monjroro to wegovy as well..
Except the wegovy is still untouched in the fridge
I read so many negative stories,I decided I didn't have two months to piss about waiting to see if it works, when I had already found something that did .
Luckily it has a long shelf life and I will use in maintenance at some point .
My provider was very understanding and allowed me to switch back to monjroro

Do you think it will work for maintenance? I'm at target, I just don't want to pile it all back on

Pugdays5 · 04/11/2025 00:45

No idea ..I've only bought one pen of wavogy thankfully.
You could definitely give it try and swap back 😉 f it doesn't work

My experience is the same, I started Wegovy on 15th September and weigh the same now as I did then. I have felt ill, constipation, loose stools, heartburn and fatigue. I had no side effects with MJ. The hunger was off the scale, not normal at all, it woke me from sleep. I was having the same calories as before 1600 to 1700 daily but my weight just went up and down the same 2 pounds.

Have ordered MJ 2.5 and hope I can get back on track to lose...my BMI is still at 33

Are you saying that wegovy actually made you more hungry??

Pugdays5 · 04/11/2025 01:01

I think ..if we start of on wegovy,we think it works, because it's slightly better than going it alone ,and we feel we are getting some help from it ...
But if we start of on monjroro then switch to wegovy,we feel it doesn't work, because monjroro works so well and wegovy is not as strong as monjroro ..

I think that is why there are people on social media who lost all their weight on wegovy, ( ozempic in America ) because they never tried monjroro, and why people who went on monjroro first ,are struggling having switched down to wegovy

RelishingGrpSupport · 04/11/2025 01:12

I moved from MJ to Wegovy 1.7 mg. I was at suitable weight. I thought the price hike plus only needing to maintain weight meant I'm doing the best thing. MJ does a much better job. In my view. I'm going back middle of this week as I've used last W. shot.

Glad to see I'm not alone

To add MJ was launched a bit later and if people say it's better that fits with it being a slightly more next generation WLI. I'll be interest to see if I feel better regarding it's effects than with W.

don’t be disheartened by my post please. I know there has been some very positive posts about the switch on other forums. It’s just I wasn’t one of them unfortunately. Good luck with your switchover and I hope it all works out.

Same as me, I’ve had two months of wegovy and it’s like I’ve been injecting water. About to go back to MJ once I decide which dose to go for

I was on the 15mg dose previously and they started me back at 5mg. But I’m all good with them starting me lower as if my body can cope with a lower dose then it saves money. Don’t get me wrong if I need to go up then I will. I’ve come too far to give up, I’m over 7 stones down in just over 18 months and still need to lose about another 6 stones.
The other thing I had with wegovy which I forgot to mention was terrible anxiety and palpitations. I was not expecting that at all. It knocked me for six.
But yes, it was as if I was injecting water too in the way of appetite suppression and food noise. I’m already back to waking up in the morning forcing myself to eat breakfast. It’s a nice feeling lol

It's interesting to see how it works. I lost over a stone on ozempic back in the day which is a really low dose, but firstly I was at my heaviest and secondly I was definitely employing the power of placebo alongside the actual effects. Tried wegovy when it came out and lost half a stone in 6 months. It was barely perceptible even at the top dose. Mounjaro is just too good. I'm just hoping with all my being that retratrutide comes out next year and that Mounjaro pricing will go down when that happens. It's so expensive, but for my quality of life and mental health I can't face going off it. Wegovy is just so inferior. I'm not a super responder though - some people found 2.5 and 5mg Mounjaro enough to lose lots of weight so they may find wegovy better.

To be fair I don’t blame you leaving it untouched. I feel like I wasted 2 months and £400. I’m not a fast loser anyway. The menopause has wreaked havoc on my body. 10 years ago I’d have been at target by now but it’s been little over one lb a week and I’m all good with that. But 2 lbs in 2 months and feeling like I was is not good. I’m with Asda pharmacy and they’ve been fine with me changing back. I never thought I’d be so glad to have my one day a week of eggy burps back 😂 As they say ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there. I also feel that if we started on wegovy we’d have been fine on it.

I got to my goal weight using MJ and switched when the price hike happened. I’ve just finished my second pen and have increased the dose for my third to see if it makes a difference. I feel that WG is nowhere near as effective and wish I could switch back!

Yep, pretty much the same side effects as you with anxiety thrown in. The fatigue was really shocking. I could have slept all day given the chance.

I’ve stuck with mounjaro but I just wanted to say that I never went above 5mg. I had been reading these boards for a while before starting and I guess I was quite nervous about the whole thing. The provider I’m with sent emails to move up but never really pushed aside from that. I moved up to 5 and realised I had still been feeling the 2.5mg and maybe I should have stayed on that longer than 1 month.

I get a definite increase in food noise by Friday (I take mine Sunday night) but I still lost steadily and I couldn’t see the point of moving up if I was. I lost all my weight and am maintaining now. I know that doesn’t work for everyone but I don’t think you necessarily have to move up just because you’ve adjusted to a dose, if you can see you still have some control of the food noise, anyway.

I had high hopes for W and really went into it with a positive attitude. I felt gutted that it didn’t work and that it had such horrible side effects for me. It’s a shame it hasn’t worked for your maintenance as that would’ve been ideal for you cost wise. Maybe the lowest dose of MJ would be fine for maintenance?
well done on being at maintenance btw. I’m looking forward to being at target some day.

It sounds as if we are very similar there. I still have a way to go and 2lbs in 2 months with insatiable hunger was not good. MJ is the best as far as I’m concerned and like you I’m hoping that as soon at the new drug hits the shelves people will flock to it and MJ will become cheaper. Thats the hope anyway. I won’t be trying the new drug though as MJ works so well for me.
like you say it’s quality of life and mental health.

I wish they wouldn’t do the automatic promoting a higher dose bit. It’s a bit like dangling a carrot. I went up to 15mg thinking it’s what I needed to do. Looking back I actually don’t recall feeling any increased effects after 10mg. Atm I’m on 5mg. If I can stay on 5mg it’ll be awesome cost wise. Time will tell
