Just listened to the Louise Newson podcast with Dr Jack Mosley about his book food noise and weight loss injections. I think he’s fairly neutral on the jabs but sees them as a useful tool ( as most of us do) to support weight loss.

I agree with @DidILeaveTheGasOn , I really wouldn't worry about the amount of veg you eat. Hope you don't mind me suggesting that worrying that you're eating too much veg doesn't sound like a healthy attitude to food. Apologies, it's meant kindly @Gingercar .

No offence taken. I get what you’re saying. I think generally I’ve been eating spectacularly well since I started MJ, I’ve not gone off the rails once, not had any holidays to deal with etc. But lately the losses have been a bit slower or erratic and I’ve started questioning myself a bit (as have many of us, it seems). I think I know it’s just how it is, but we do look for reasons! Because I’m still eating enormous portions and snacking frequently- albeit mostly on fruit and veg, seeds and Greek yogurt! Because MJ is meant to make you feel full and have smaller portions, but I don’t get the full feeling. So Im asking can I be eating too much veg in a “surely not?” sense. In reality I think I’m eating a very healthy diet and would love to be able to continue it when at the end of the MJ and weight loss.
I love the “must get our money’s worth and knuckle down” mantra, but I think it’s impossible to not occasionally have plateaux’s or slow loss periods because that’s just how it goes sometimes.

HereIGoOnceMore · 10/09/2025 12:08

It might be types of food @GingercarI find I can eat plenty of salad, veg and fruit, but not much carbs and sugar. There is definitely a conscious element in that I am deliberately choosing lower and better carbs with more protein and focusing on veg, but even when I try a small piece of cake, for example, I can’t finish it and I can only attribute that to MJ.

Gingercar · 10/09/2025 12:27

I’m not eating many carbs - I usually have a small-med portion of brown rice or wholewheat pasta for my dinner, again with a large portion of veg (onions, toms, courgettes, peppers and mushrooms base turned into a pasta sauce or curry), other than that I don’t have much in the way of carbs, and it’s less than the NHS recommended amount per day. I don’t have any sugar apart from unprocessed sugars in fruit. I am eating high sugar fruits regularly, such as grapes and bananas, but I’m really not going to beat myself up for that. I’m really enjoying what I’m eating, just whole, clean foods. A kind of veg based Mediterranean diet.

I think I’m just being silly: I am still losing, it’s just gone down from a 2.5lb a week loss for the first two months to a 1-1.5lb average for this last month. And that’s not bad, I should be pleased, not thinking about it negatively.

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 10/09/2025 12:52

That's where I'm at @Gingercar . I'm trying to focus on how much happier I am already rather than thinking 'at this rate I won't be at goal til 2027'.

Gingercar · 10/09/2025 13:42

Yes you’re right, we really must focus on the good. I’m feeling, and looking, so much better in my lower sized clothes. Happily wearing things I’ve not been able to put on for years. I’m looking forward to winter because last year I only had two coats that would fasten up - and that’s a big deal when you are outside with dogs/horses all the time and your cafe is an outdoor converted horse trailer! This year I will be toasty with all the coats I couldn’t fasten up to choose from!

HereIGoOnceMore · 10/09/2025 14:34

Lovely thought. I too am looking forward to doing up my swishy wool coat this year.

HKG · 10/09/2025 15:12

May I share a NSV please? I haven’t been to the gym to lift heavy since I started MJ at the end of May for various reasons and was super nervous to go back and see how much strength I’ve lost - I was convinced it would be a lot. I finally went back on Friday and my deadlifts are only 2.5kg lighter than they were before. I’m so chuffed!

does that mean most of the 30lb lost was actually fat? Who knows?! I’m gonna say yes!

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 10/09/2025 15:17

I was able to stuff myself into my largest decent black winter coat until December 2023, and after that I had no chance, but I couldn't face buying a new one until the following December! My son played for the local football team so there were MANY matches and training session where I stood on the side of the pitch in a hoodie, drenched and freezing.
At last I caved and bought a size 20 <wince> teal blue coat that made me look like Paddington. When I zipped it up it made me look like a large blue sausage roll. I regretted the purchase immediately.

My smaller coats are in the spider-infested pit under my house. I think I'm going to go in there today. Yes I am. I'm going to do it.

DBatteryBand · 10/09/2025 15:36

DO IT, @DidILeaveTheGasOn ! We are all behind you! (About five miles behind you, holding frying pans and Hoovers, just in case.)

I need everyone to shout, 'Just bloody stop it!' at me. I've just eaten four biscuits, a chocolate chip cookie and a chocolate coin. The wheels have come off. I think I need to tinker with my next dose, 5mg isn't cutting it this week.

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 10/09/2025 15:43

I DID IT!!! Woo!!! @DBatteryBand I knew you guys had my back, from a very great distance 😂

When's your next dose due? How are you in yourself, you said work is high pressured? 5 biscuits doesn't sound like the end of the world, I had Maccies last week.

DBatteryBand · 10/09/2025 16:02

Whoooo-hoooo! Well done!!!!

Next dose due Saturday. I have an ear infection and work is really tricky. Feeling a bit sad about life, which doesn't help. I have made a cup of tea and removed myself from the kitchen, so hopefully that will stop any further nonsense.

Edited to ask what you had at McDonald's and was it delicious?

SutekhsEars · 10/09/2025 16:08

@Gingercar I thought your diet was pretty clean - glad it's just a wobble! If you're not feeling full, can you add a small amount of fat? Perhaps some salad dressing or cheese? I really need protein & fat to feel full - it used to be carbs and I still occasionally need toast.

Apprenante · 10/09/2025 17:04

Well done @DidILeaveTheGasOn ! You weren't attacked by the 🕷🕷at all. 🏅for bravery.

HereIGoOnceMore · 10/09/2025 17:46

OMG - I love orange curd (and it makes the best - but very calorific - mince pies).

Gingercar · 10/09/2025 18:24

I love curd too, but the sugar and fat in that are really, really high! And I’d eat the whole pot!

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 10/09/2025 19:41

There's protein in it you know. Protein.

dc82 · 10/09/2025 21:34

Heya everyone. I’m still about and reading when I can but with kids back to school, work I’m very much reading and catching up at odd times.

just wanted to send a large hug to our prawn @bookedanappointment 🩷

And now thanks to this thread I’m salivating at the thought of lemon or orange curd. I’ve not had that in such a long time……….. 🤤

Ooh? How so...do you add it to the mincemeat? I need info! 😃

Seahorsesplendour · 11/09/2025 09:12

Breaking news on this sunny Thursday!!!

jab day yesterday and after a very very wobbly week I have woken up this morning and the MJ Portcullis is back!!!! 🥳 suppression and control resumes!!!!

thank goodness!!!!!!

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 11/09/2025 09:22

Wooo @Seahorsesplendour ! Great news. I think I need to increase my dose but I also need to learn how to handle stress. I feel like I woke up stressed today after work yesterday, and this morning was horrendous. It's only 20 past 9, how?!

I've just had the wonderful curd on toast and it was spiffing. Compared to the 7,000 calories of alcohol I used to consume on a weekly basis, I am almost belligerently upbeat about having curd on toast in this, my new not-living-on-beer lifestyle.

So stressed though. Gah.

GherkinsOnToast · 11/09/2025 11:11

HI All,

I've been MIA - 3 weeks holiday in America, including Disney - so much food, so little urge to eat it! I finished one pen and took a new one dose out, moved hotels for the next week and the medication fridge provided by the hotel froze it! so it was unusable, I went without and took 7.5mg when I got home 12 days later - horrible side effects for 2 days but settled down quickly and side effect free this week. I was stuck at 94-95 for ages and suddenly my body has decided to give in and the weight has started dropping again!

SW105.7
CW 90
2 x 2.5
2 x 5
on 2nd 7.5mg.

Gingercar · 11/09/2025 18:09

Welcome back @GherkinsOnToast. Glad to hear you managed to enjoy your holiday and cope with pens. And even better to hear that someone has overcome a plateau, there seem to be a few of them around at the moment!

SutekhsEars · 11/09/2025 19:41

I really need to tone up. I feel so saggy. Still don't have the energy for weights though.
