Welcome to thread 7 to MN weight loss friends old and new!

I’m on W14 D4 and on my third 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 9.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 29.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

How do people manage constipation on MJ? For me it's a welcome change in a way as I was very prone to IBS type symptoms, but it sometimes interferes a bit with my weigh-ins!

I eat dried apricots and prunes and dates daily (I definitely notice if I don’t).

I also make sure I have a lot of fibre in my diet. When I was away and didn’t have control of my diet things were a lot worse so I think it helps!

I do miss those workout endorphins. I used to do Crossfit and lots of high intensity workouts and was completely addicted to the feeling! Maybe a new sports bra and some new gym kit will inspire me! Any excuse for some retail therapy

And if you go to the actual shops, that is a walking workout in itself, so totally a win-win 😁

I’ve made an arse of my calculations so can someone confirm what I am doing is right…

theory is
dose divided by strength x 60

so…

1.75 divided by 2.5 x 60 = 42. 42 clicks from 2.5mg pen = 1.75mg dose
then
1.25 divided by 5 x 60 = 15. 15 clicks from 5mg pen = 1.25 dose

1.75 + 1.25 dose = 3mg dose in total

Can I ask a question to those of you who have moved up to 7.5 or 10 how you made the decision to move up. I've done 6 weeks on 5mg. I can feel myself getting hungrier but I'm keeping my calories to around 1000-1200 (I'm very short) and losing an average of 1lb a week. It's definitely requiring more will power and effort. But there is some suppression and satiety.

I'm due to jab today and have a 7.5mg pen that I've been taking 5mg doses from. And wondering whether I should make the jump up.

I'm also wary of side effects. I've been lucky and not had any other than constipation so far. I'd be very grateful to hear of other's experience and how you made the decision to go up.

For context I probably have a stone to a stone and a half left to lose.

I’ve got a stone and a half left to lose too (maybe a little more). I’ve had the starter 2.5mg pen and then two 5mg pens. I’ll take dose 9 of 5mg tomorrow, as I also do the bonus dose so each pen lasts 5 weeks. My losses have slowed, though, so I’ve ordered 7.5mg for my next one. I still have quite a bit of suppression but I’m hoping for a 7.5 induced whoosh. I might regret this if I get side effects, but I thought I might as well give it a go.

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar I've done 5 weeks of 5mg and lost just under 6lbs. I've definitely being feeling hungrier this week so I've moved to 6.25mg today (50 clicks of a 7.5mg pen) and will see what that brings. Good luck on 7.5mg.

@Cantbesure 😮 don't throw wine away. Keep it in the fridge in between the last glass Sunday and the following Saturday. You should treat it like you would an opened carton of juice. Obviously you want to drink it room temperature, but if you keep it in the fridge in between it definitely keeps it nice 👌🏽

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar I have had a little whoosh since moving up to 6.25mg for the last two weeks. Had planned to move up to 7.5mg this week but the appetite suppression has been a bit much so not sure if I will. Thankfully no real side effects though.

I stayed on 2.5 then I moved to 3.75 ( having to adjust clicks to get dose, so expensive way of doing it, should have realised they would just send higher dose pens - anyway I digress) get horrible sulphur burbs day 2 and some constipation. This is exactly what I am doing. 10 weeks on 2.5mg and I am on third week of 3mg. My focus is as much to retrain the brain as it is to lose weight. I don’t see the point in eating the same as before but less.
I am trying to make healthier choices, eating more protein, much less carbs and crap.
I am very focused, in the right frame of mind and I am owning the loss of weight as I am responsible for what goes in my mouth and the pen is a tool to make the process easy. But if there comes a day when I stop using the pen, then I’m hoping that my brain has at least been a little bit re wired.

Welcome! Congratulations on the losses so far - how long has it taken you to lose your 17lbs? If you joined us in November, that would still represent a healthy 1.5ish lb pw including Xmas.

I think you’re on the right track, you need to retrain your brain to eat food which moving forward will be less likely to increase your weight, and keep you satisfied. For me that means low carb, higher healthy protein content. I had huge suppression on 2.5mg but tbh, I went up to 5 because I didn’t really understand that i could’ve stayed on 2.5. However, did 5mg increase my weight loss? I don’t think so, my average is 2.1lb pw including Xmas which I’m happy with and represents what I’d have been happy with without MJ. I think it’s a personal choice to move up, but I don’t think there is evidence to demonstrate that a higher dose equals a greater weight loss? You also need to consider your side effects increasing.

Obviously, the overhaul of a lifestyle includes exercise - how are your activity levels? Are you able to exercise?

this weeks loss 1.7kg (definitely had a hormone assisted whoosh -am not complaining 😂)

Really pleased with my progress, I was aiming for 70kg but might try to go lower if I can!

still on 5mg and not planning to go up for the next pen.

Quick update from me: 11 st 7.6lb this morning 🥳 so just over 1.5st to go until my first GW. Feeling hopeful I’ll get there for May when I have a holiday booked.

Saw the new Bridget Jones movie last night. It was fantastic. Highly recommend. Take tissues with you though 😭

Off for my fancy 15 (yep, you read that correctly) course lunch in London today. Wish me luck 😂

I did two pens at 2.5mg and I am now on my 2nd at 5mg. My suppression on 2.5mg was really strong to begin with, but I only lost 5lbs on the second pen, so I moved to 5mg. On 5 my suppression has been huge for first 4 days, and then it wears off. But I don’t eat enough on those first few days so I’ll probably stay where I am. I am mainly eating so much less, and I am trying to train myself out of all of the sugar. I need to get into cooking more because that will help me avoid the crap meals.

i would say don’t worry about side effects - if that is your concern. If you are getting nothing serious then you should be fine to move up. If you do have a reaction that you can’t manage, then move down again. But if you are happy with slow and steady then stick with that. I am not sure I could do faster because my blood sugar goes through the floor on the strong suppression days. But moving to 5mg was no issue for me. And it did give me the woosh I was hoping for. If my loss slows down too much, I’ll try going up 7.5. Good luck and whatever you decide, you are losing which is great 😊
