Anyone interested in a new thread for those of us taking the plunge this month?

OP posts:

I also want to ask about the extra dose.
At the 4th week of 2.5mg, are you all taking the extra 1.25mg additional to the 2.5mg? As the 'bridge' to 5mg?

What sort of syringe would I need or ask for to buy from the chemist to get it out?

No, you take your fourth dose as usual.
On the fifth week, you can either 'break' your pen with a hard twist to force it to give you another full dose at 2.5, or you can use an insulin syringe to extract what's left (usually a bit over a full dose) and inject that.
There's plenty of videos on you tube for either method.
So you get 5 weeks worth of medication out of each pen, instead of four.

Thank you! Breaking the pen seems easy enough, so I will try that. I don't have any additional needles though, is it worth buying the syringes in that case from a chemist?

I received 6 pen needles with my pen, I assume in case of breakages.
But I didn't want to mess around trying to break it, and then break it too much and not be able to inject, so I did order insulin syringes from an online chemist. So will probably just do that method.
My 4th dose is tomorrow, so I'll be attempting the bonus dose next week!

Tubbytiger · 22/01/2025 14:47

Third jab yesterday. For the first time I am having headaches, dizziness, nausea. Hope it passes! Overall I have lost 10.2 lbs (start weight 14.0.8 current weight 13.4.6). I had a nasty vomiting bug last week so experienced some involuntary fasting which will have boosted the weight loss but I am taking it as a win.

IdentityCrisis101 · 22/01/2025 18:52

I have used the bonus dose today! I used a drawing up needle and extracted 0.6mls, felt the same as the other doses. I can't see that the side effects will be any different, but I will post if they are.

This is my 4th dose, but 5th one extracted from this pen.

MathsMagpie · 22/01/2025 19:15

I'm not sure about the extra dose, it would be really helpful to spread the cost ££ a bit more but don't want to rely on it and then not have the next lot ready.

Shmee1988 · 22/01/2025 19:55

How is everyone getting on? What has everyone eaten today?

Souredgrapes · 22/01/2025 20:53

And your calories. That's not much at all.

Souredgrapes · 22/01/2025 20:57

@IdentityCrisis101 . May I ask , does your post mean you took your 4th dose plus the extra 5th both at the same time ? I’m thinking of doing this tomorrow when 4th dose is due .

I've just posted this on another thread as I was asked a similar question. X

I only administered 2.5mg today.I have shared a pen with my partner, so we have been extracting the doses (he's now ordered his own so no sharing moving forward). I know people will jump on me for that, which is why I was a little cautious about explaining it.
Full disclosure though I am a nurse, and have followed all precautions I would at work when using a vial of medication that is used by multiple patients (I.e Insulin), so i am happy I am able to do it with minimal risks. I think withdrawing the MJ is simple enough, I think most people would be able to do it even without any experience of dealing with medications.
This isn't me advocating for other people doing this, or medical advice, it's just what I have chosen to do. Sorry, that sounds a bit blunt, but I don't want anyone to take this as medical advice. I personally have found it a simple process, and I am sure there are videos that would explain it to make the process simpler. A dose of 2.5mg is 30-50 pounds depending on where you buy from, so it makes sense to me to try use the left over dose.

Souredgrapes · 23/01/2025 08:00

@Midlifecrisisxamillion about 1000 cals when you include milk in endless cups of tea My job is sedentary so I’m t the low end of the cals to stay in a decent deficit.
Re the 5th dose . So I took my forth dose this morning then snapped the syringe mechanism to see if the remaining dose could be released but the plunger still won’t go far enough . I’ve ordered insulin syringes so thank you for that tip . I’ll use the 5th dose after the weekend .
Hope you all have a lovely day ! X

Jjff89 · 23/01/2025 08:18

@Gcsunnyside23 of course drop me a message with your number x

Upperroom · 23/01/2025 08:54

Good morning, although I panicked about the wine on day 2 I realise (day 4) that I’m not interested in chocolate, crisps or ‘snacking’ anymore. Long may this continue 🤞🏻😁
no nausea or anything either! I was so nervous before trying MJ and it’s been fine. I’m definitely an emotional binge eater. In the past I’ve managed to do maybe 2 weeks of strict dieting but then I relapse. I hope my calorie intake is still low enough though to make a difference…

Sorry I feel a bit thick with this 😅how are you using the insulin syringes to get the 5th dose out? Do you put the needle into the red bit at the end to draw it out to the correct level and then inject?

Gcsunnyside23 · 23/01/2025 11:41

Week 2 weigh in and I'm down 10lb, so happy with that. Thinking I might order the syringes too and see if I can get a 5th dose, it's so expensive but if you can get an extra one then it's not so bad. A friend has told me she's ordered the 5mg but only using half in order to make it go further. But think of be worried I wasn't getting the right dose each week

Yes you do. There's a few videos on YouTube that show you how.

Yes, exactly that. You withdraw 0.6mls of MJ, as PP says there's a few videos on how to do it. It's quite easy.

MananaMananaPenelope · 23/01/2025 13:30

First dose taken at 7 am 🤞. I feel slightly nauseous but nothing crippling. Have definitely upped my water intake today.

MathsMagpie · 24/01/2025 17:24

I had my 3rd dose on Wednesday and am starting to feel more pecking this week. I keep putting off ordering the 5ml pens, hoping to find a discount code or offer for existing customers Blush

DesperatleySeekingWeightLoss · 24/01/2025 18:14

Hi! I think you can shop around if you've kept your original prescription box to use as proof of being prescribed.
This website apparently gives comparative rates: monj.co.uk/

Mee too @MathsMagpie . Third dose on Tuesday and a hungrier week this week, but also strangely more side effects (headache, queasy). I got a 15% discount at Oushk and my 5ml is arriving next week. Not sure about squeezing out the fifth dose from current pen - using syringes is well out of my comfort zone.
