I'm absolutely petrified and excited and worried and I just want it to arrive.

If anyone wants to hold my hand please do it's nerve-wracking isn't it!

I haven't told anyone apart from my husband so don't have friends to support me but I have a LOT of weight to loose my BMI is 49.7! It feels absolutely impossible to loose weight anynother way and since being on HRT for an early menopause at 37.

SilenceInside · 13/11/2024 11:43

@JaroSally I started at a very very similar BMI back at the start of July. My BMI is now 38, and continuing downwards! I also haven't told anyone other than my partner.

I was excited to start but nervous about doing the actual injection, and it took me an age to go through the instruction leaflet and actually get on and do it. Then it was a bit of an anticlimax afterwards as I didn't feel a thing.

If you haven't seen them, there's a long-running thread for those of us with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5183561-mounjaro-wegovy-with-5st-30kg-to-lose-thread-3?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

And also one for those of us who started with a BMI of around 50:

You'll also find a November Starters thread too, it's useful sometimes to chat with people at the same stage as you are at:

Wow@SilenceInside that's amazing loss I hope i have that kind of success 🙌 .

Thank you for your advice I'll hop onto some of those treads and hopefully pick you some good tips from others who know the tricks.

Thank you again

It is really nerve wracking at the start but it soon just becomes a way of life. I was terrified of needles but now it doesn't bother me at all. I haven't told anyone apart from my husband either so these forums are a good source of support. I started off with a BMI of 44.6 and am now down to 35.8 (since April.) My losses have been fairly slow, but consistent. Best of luck to you.

AlwaysTimeForWine · 14/11/2024 14:18

My first delivery has arrived today. My husband won't even know what it is so need to tell him this evening.

I feel the same as you. Petrified and excited. I've been wanting to try it for a while but haven't had the courage as I'm worried I'll be one of those people with horrendous side effects.

Good luck!

@AlwaysTimeForWine if you woukd like to message me we can go on this journey together ❤️

On a side note I watched quite a few people on tiktok prep and do their 1st injection to prepare myself and I think it really helped me prepare. The injection was with such a teeny needle I honestly couldn't feel a thing and I'm sure you will be the same.

Thanks @JaroSally

Told my DH tonight. He was utterly lovely (as I should have known he would be!!) and so supportive. He said he knows I would have done my research and just wants me to be happy.

I'm going to start on Saturday evening. I play a team sport on Saturdays so don't want to run the risk of any side affects getting in the way of that!

AlwaysTimeForWine · 14/11/2024 21:05

@JaroSally Well done for doing your first jab! Glad it went okay. Let me know how you're feeling in the next few days!

That's good it's important to have support. How much are you hoping to loose or what's your BMI?

OP posts:
AlwaysTimeForWine · 15/11/2024 00:16

@JaroSally

I weigh 100kg / 15st 11lb
I'm 5ft 9"
BMI 33.4 (a few weeks ago at the drs)
I'm 47 and peri menopausal (on HRT)

To get to a BMI of 25 I need to lose approx 4 stone, which would take me to 12 stone. I haven't been that weight for 29 years so I'm not convinced I will get there

It seems completely unachievable for my frame. I'm tall, broad, strong, play a team sport so have some muscle mass, and have size 8 feet! So I'm taking the BMI with a pinch of salt.

I also have a big wobbly belly though that appeared in the last few years and am way too heavy - my knees hurt every time I run. I won't be able to continue playing my sport for another 10 years if I don't lose weight now.

I have already lost approx. 6lbs myself in the last few months but it has stalled and I'm fed up. I've had enough of watching everything I eat and still not losing weight. I don't want to be at a higher risk of diabetes and heart disease. And I don't want to wait another few years for it to get worse.

I hear you. I'm tall and broad and even at Uni, when I was a size 10/12 was 13 ish stone which puts me at overweight! I'm hoping to get to about 15 stone that will still leave me overweight but not obese and I haven't been 15 for about 15 years! Its my aim to be able to shop in any clothes shop! I'm sick of hoping they have a 22 / 24

I think my biggest worry is coping with side-effects (if I get them) at work etc. But also, that it just won't work for me, or I'll be too ill to stick to it. Would be such a disappointment after building up all this courage.

We can do this!! It's nice to have someone starting at the same time! The main November starters thread is so busy.

How are you feeling today? Did you do your injection on Wednesday or Thursday?

zaffa · 15/11/2024 08:35

Just a wave of support - i started in March with a BMI of 47 and it's now down to 34. I truthfully thought I would eat myself to death and I look back and can't believe I've come so far. I'm a completely different person now. Side effects were minimal and actually when I started I felt fantastic!
I told a lot of people - all of who were supportive - because it gave me a support network around me if I had negative effects or was nervous or scared (which I totally was, I was one of the first set of users for this).
My husband has been amazing and actually does the injections for me.

Good luck ladies - I hope it works for you, and you get what you need out of it.

This may well be the first step to the most amazing journey.

Fedupcreative86 · 15/11/2024 12:51

I'm debating to wether to order when I get paid soon. BMI 33 5ft 4in and sick of looking like a bloody potato in everything! ADHD so traditional diets are hard to stick to. However, im a little nervous so I'm thinking of getting my bloods done at the GP first. Good luck x

Hello

I feel just like you, I received my first pen yesterday and am starting Friday due to work etc…..I am nervous to inject, excited to start, scared to start, encouraged by everyone’s stories and just can’t wait.

I have a lot of weight to loose, my BMI is 59.

JaroSally · 20/11/2024 22:59

My first week has been really good. I have lost 6lbs and really haven't been feeling bad.

I have been very unsure about my food signals though. I have realised that I was confusing my tummy digesting food as hunger I suppose that's how I end up eating so much because I still think I'm hungry aftrt eating and it never stops! I'm not actually sure I know what the hunger signal is!

I had my 2nd injection and it was as painless as the 1st the needle is just so teeny.

I'm feeling so motivated for this next week I'm amazed at how I have been able to avoid snacks and even avoided sweets and crisps in the petrol station when I was filling the car up! It's like going on a diet but the willpower is just there already.

Hi

Congratulations you had a good week, I only did my first jab today….was so scared of the jab incase I did it wrong!!!

I too am feeling so motivated, I have an awful lot to lose, but feel it’s the first day of my new life.

I am watching videos of people on this journey and reading here etc……it is amazing to learn how well people are doing, though I know it’s not an easy ride.

Good luck x

PresidentBarklett · 22/11/2024 23:04

Oh my god, can I join you guys? I injected my first dose this evening, although it arrived on Tuesday. Like a PP, I wanted to give myself the weekend in case I have horrific side effects.

Injection was a piece of piss, but I was still terrified. I have over 6 stone to lose and I'm 42, the age where your body stops being forgiving about such things.

Got a delivery arriving tomorrow full of healthy food and grabbed myself a Nutri Bullet I'm the Black Friday sales. Let's go!

Yay! Sounds like a brilliant first week!

Mine has also been great. I weigh in tomorrow and I think I've probably lost a few lbs. I've had a bigger dinner tonight as have a sports match tomorrow so need the energy for running around!

I also found the injection painless. Has a headache the first evening, thirsty most days and a little bit of nausea and dodgy bum on Wednesday. But it's all been very mild and easy to deal with.

Have found it easy to restrict my calories - not using willpower, but because I genuinely didn't want to eat anything else.

Definitely feeling more peckish today so glad I have my second jab tomorrow. I feel the same as you - really positive and looking forward to it!

Well done for taking your first step.

I have taken all the advice on board but the advice for prioritising protein and fiber i have gone with in a bjg way and so far haven't had any bad side effects.

Having a protein yogurt with fruit for breakfast has been my go to but yesterday and today I haven't felt like breakfast and have been having lunch as my first food. It's very much a casenif take each day as it comes so far!

Yes! So easy! Once I got over the weirdness of actually sticking a needle in myself, it was fine. Like you, I didn't feel it at all and had to double check!

Tbh it's the idea of side effects that worries me. But I guess it's just a case of pushing through.

I'll definitely update regularly. So nice to have companions on what Voy keep annoyingly calling my 'weight loss journey'.

twinkydink · 23/11/2024 08:07

Can I join please? My first delivery should be coming today and I will be injecting today. I’m at 200lbs and haven’t been in a healthy BMI since before having kids (oldest almost 8!)

Snacking is a huge issue for me so I am really hoping Mounjaro helps with this. My meals tend to be pretty good it’s just all the extra crap I eat!

My husband is aware and supportive but no one else is real life knows but I think I will be open if I feel it is working for me.

good luck to everyone!

AlwaysTimeForWine · 23/11/2024 08:56

@JaroSally

I weighed in and I've lost 5.2lbs!! I'm thrilled!

Food intake has been good. I work in a school and get fed at lunchtimes - there's a massive salad bar so that makes my life easier!! Especially as I work full days and don't get home until 6.30om most nights, and play hockey, so am busy.

I tend to stick to a protein shake/yogurt in the morning - I can't stomach more than that - I've never been good at breakfast.

Salad for lunch with mixed beans, and a protein like boiled egg/tuna/ham with some homemade soup, followed by melon. I'll start to get bored with that soon though so need to shake it up.

If I need a snack I have some nuts.

And then a normal evening meal with the family, just slightly less. This week I've had spag bol, roast chicken thighs and veg with sweet potato, shepherds pie, chicken casserole etc. I cook most evenings and they are made healthily.

The biggest thing for me is no wine!! At all since Sunday. And no mindless snacking.

My Nutracheck is set at 1500 calories. Before MJ I would have been ravenous on that. I've done it easily this week. I've still felt hungry when it's time to eat, but nothing major and have eaten less and been fuller more quickly. So I'm in a calorie deficit for my food, and then when you take into account any exercise calories as well, I am well under.

Todays food hasn't gone on yet but I'm
playing hockey so likely to be porridge for breakfast, whatever the other team feed us for match teas, I'll take a protein shake with me, and we're going to have a Chinese and some wine tonight. But I'll choose something simple from the Chinese I think, like duck, or noodles.

Second jab tonight!!

Waiting for my 1st monjaro delivery
PresidentBarklett · 23/11/2024 10:11

Well done @AlwaysTimeForWine.

Well, it's the morning after the first injection for me and no side effects - perhaps a slight headache but I often feel a bit like that when I wake up.

I am a bit hungry so I suspect I won't be one of those 'I just couldn't eat' folks. I'm making myself banana and date porridge which I'm looking forward to.

So far so good.
