It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)
Mumsnet does not allow promo codes. Please do not post any. If you want one, ask and someone will PM you a code or there are now threads on the promo page that have codes for Mounjaro link below:

Miss Mounjaro UK has the most up to date price comparison charts: https://www.missmounjarouk.com/

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cooling-resistant-starch#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

Very happy today.

Sw 5/8. 17st 5lb
Cw 12/8. 15st 5lb

Hoping to be 14st by Christmas and I'm very looking forward to buying new pyjamas as at the moment I'm too small for 20-22 but too big for 16-18

Cw is TODAYS DATE

Fuffedoff · 12/10/2024 11:00

Hey,

What peppermint oil capsules do people take for sulphur burps? And how much/how often and are they effective?

Thanks

:)

Pinkbendyman · 12/10/2024 11:18

I hate pyjama sizes like that! What’s wrong with providing an 18-20?!
I am now a 10-12 but all the pyjamas seem to come in 8-10 and 12-14 🙄

Need a bit of quick advice on takeaways… I haven’t had one since starting MJ in June, but I have friends coming tonight and I don’t know what to order that won’t give me the runs while they’re here 🫣😅.

katinthehattt · 12/10/2024 18:00

@Peggy148 nothing too fatty, I'd say. I survived a chicken shashlik from the Indian last night, basically just spiced grilled chicken. With cauliflower bhaji on the side 👍

I've not had any take aways yet, but I have friends round soon and they will want one..

I'm thinking the tikka starter from Indian, its dry, no sauce and maybe bombay potato..

Chinese would be stir fry veg and maybe plain rice..
My idea is nothing fried or greasy and should be fine..
Kebab shop would be chicken shish..

Just to say on the takeaway topic - my go to is sushi, endless options, fresh, light and satisfying.
Close second - ramen, or I really like to go for Greek as it’s delish and is usually some grilled meat, salad, pretty deficit-friendly.

I have a few places where the stir fries aren’t greasy and I do well on that without
rice, but s greasy one will be a disaster.

also mediterranean type places, salad, maybe something grilled or hummus

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 12/10/2024 20:03

I had a burrito yesterday and today I'm in trouble so stay away from Mexican food is my advice.

OP posts:
ItsAlrightDarling · 12/10/2024 20:07

I’m fine with Mexican! We eat it a lot (home made). I’m also fine with Indian. The only food I’ve had issue with is a slice of Dominos.

No advice but I come out in rashes\hives all the time. They move around my body too e.g may start on the left of my stomach but moves up towards my boobs or across to the right side etc. GP has only ever prescribed short term steroid cream which doesn't work & has no interest on investing the cause. I've literally torn my skin to shreds in my sleep.
So as I said, no advice but lots of sympathy.

SilenceInside · 12/10/2024 20:23

@Scarletstenfeettall does an oral antihistamine help at all with the rash and itching?

QueenOfHiraeth · 12/10/2024 20:55

Genuine question here. Do people all get diarrhoea or are most of you just worrying in case you might get it?

I have changed my diet but, although I no longer want snacks, sweets, etc on a regular basis, I still eat everything I fancy but in smaller portions. Tonight, for example, we have had a Chinese, I had deep fried chicken in batter with sweet and sour sauce and rice. If I have an Indian I have a korma with garlic naan.
I ate half of what I would have eaten previously (although I can't guarantee I won't eat the other half tomorrow!) and have never had diarrhoea since starting.

I'm just curious if I am a weirdo really... Grin

NippyCrab · 12/10/2024 20:57

@Fuffedoff I use Buscupan peppermint capsules and they were great, plus peppermint teas. I had more bloated gassy tummy than sulphur burbs though. Xx

ItsAlrightDarling · 12/10/2024 20:59

I am the same as you. I haven’t had any trouble eating any of my usual foods. I’ve generally made good choices and my portions are far smaller, but we had guests last night so had an Indian takeaway and I had my usual food, just less of it.

HippoPortlyMouse · 12/10/2024 21:03

@QueenOfHiraeth I've been wondering the same thing tbh, also with constipation. Admittedly I'm only 6 weeks in, but so far, bowel habits normal. So no, I don't think you're weird - but maybe we're both just fortunate!

NewLifter · 12/10/2024 21:04

SilkFloss · 11/10/2024 22:59

I appreciate that no one here made the rules but I was just wondering how come it's OK to take it at 30+ but not at 29. But after a few months, it is presumable still OK to take it, even if you're down into the 20s. 🤷‍♀️

This is asked a lot

At the end of the day, all medications have prescribing guidelines. I would imagine it's a case of risk V benefit. It's a treatment for obesity because being obese carries far more risks than being overweight. So the risk of taking the medicine seems to be better than the risk of remaining obese.

I hope that makes sense!

imnottoofussed · 12/10/2024 21:06

I've been on mj for 6 months and had no diarrhoea or constipation and can and do eat all sorts

KrankyKumquat · 12/10/2024 21:06

@Scarletstenfeettall
You've done well to get an appt with a dermatologist! I've been getting random patches since I started menopause (so probably about 10yrs). GP said it was contact dermatitis and wasn't particularly interested, but I've never been able to pinpoint the cause or trigger. V.strong steroid cream helps but only supposed to use for a few days and very tiny amount. It'll come up in the oddest places, like my right hip, left elbow etc and consistently back of my neck by my hairline. I've not noticed any change for the better or worse since being on MJ so I'm not thinking there's a link for me, at least. Interestingly I also developed a proper serious allegergic reaction to the flu jab at the same time so I'm thinking it may be something auto-immune.

NewLifter · 12/10/2024 21:09

I've had diarrhea on maybe four occasions in the 3 months I've been on MJ. I've been badly constipated a fair few times too.

I think it's pretty common!

Tireduk · 12/10/2024 21:10

@Slimstar13 Just catching up as I’ve been pretty busy but well done to your amazing 7 stone loss, really impressive. You should be very happy and proud with yourself!

Thanks for those people who replied to my question over heart related concerns, my cardiologist has given MJ the thumbs up so I can carry on. Yeh, onto the next stone now …

NewLifter · 12/10/2024 21:17

I posted the other day to say I had my first proper hungry day since starting MJ. Well it's swung the other way. All I've eaten yesterday and today is lentil soup. I'm absolutely floored today, completely exhausted. Feel flu like.

Seeing the last few posts there about burritos, Greggs, Chinese etc is an eye opener as there's no way I could eat food like that on MJ. I definitely think I need to move back to 2.5mg as soon as I've used the 5mg pen I'm about to start.

My suppression is high on 3.75-4mg that I've been taking for the last two pens.

Only about 5lbs to go to goal anyway though if this new pen takes me lower, that's ok. I'm aiming for a BMI of 27 so can go lower - just can't see me maintaining less. I've now reached what I believe to be my setpoint as I couldn't get below this weight no matter what I did before - so I maintained at this weight for several years. So I'm interested to see whether I lose much more.

I'm going to book a consultation with Oushk soon to talk about maintenance.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
