@butterfly0404 so sorry to hear you have both been so ill! Glad to hear that you are on the mend now.

Ah ok does seem likely to be the MJ then. Thanks! Hoping it doesn't last longer than usual as I'm currently on holiday and had been hoping it would be early so as to not be a pain. Sods law eh!

I think it's different for everyone. When I got down near goal on vlcd before I suddenly became regular and shorter.

Lastchancefatty · 16/09/2024 06:15

Need to catch up on the thread but can I ask something first? Has anyone not had any side effects? No matter how high dose they go? I had some low level nausea in first week or so on 5mg. I've had a very occasional urgent poo. Took bonus dose at approx 6.66mg - nothing. Not even higher suppression. I don't really have much suppression to he honest.

I got thinking. Over the years I've had medicine that came with warnings of nasty side effects. I didn't really get them. When I went on metformin, so many people have gastric effects, me = none. I'm losing weight every week but slowly. No horrible effects. Could it be I'm just one of those people who will not really get any? I'm hoping so as work are strict but each time I order a higher dose I worry this will be the one that floors me 😂

Morning all

am I doing something really wrong?!

just had my second 5mg injection on Saturday,

started 3 Aug
5 x 2.5
2 x 5mg and I’ve only lost 5lbs in 7 weeks!

I look a bit thinner - not massively.
eating less and better food but still some junk occassionally eg one slice of pizza yesterday instead of 4/5 pre mj

lots of chicken, eggs but not drinking protein shakes or adding protein powder to anything

still not drinking lots of water

Do you think that’s what causing such slow loss?
I’m a type 2 diabetic, no meds so was hoping MJ would be kicking in significantly 6/7 weeks in

thankd for any feedback x

Have you calculated your TDEE and are you eating less than your maintenance calories?

Some people are just slow lovers, me included. It's a marathon not a race, and there is also a slow losers thread you could join for more peer advice too.

Definitely drink more water, but stop drinking it 20 mins before, during and for 20 mins after a meal.

Also some people really hold onto that carb weight. You'll see through the pages some of us eat rice or pasta once and then spend the rest of the week stuck at the same weight. It could all be slow digestion and just needing a big poo, so make sure you're supplementing with a fibre supplement like psyllium husk, or a latex dense fruit like apricots or prunes. Chewing gum with sorbitol also helps.

Don't feel disappointed. A loss is a loss and that's what we celebrate. You're 5lbs better off than you were 7 weeks ago. That's great stuff!

I'm now on 7.5 and had no bad side effects so far.
I get suppression, food noise is gone, I get full on a smaller amount of food and I stay full for longer. So just good effects here.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 16/09/2024 07:31

Also you're only 2 weeks into a therapeutic dose. 2.5mg helps some people but it's not the therapeutic amount. You've got to build up your blood serum levels over time for it to become more effective.

@30not13 @ObsidianTree yes, very poor service from Zava.

I’m definitely moving to Oushk now for maintenance - just need to decide which plan to opt for but I think you can change plans after/every 3 months which gives you even more flexibility.

Snozzlemaid · 16/09/2024 07:50

I've messaged ZAVA about this as well.
Maybe if they have lots of enquiries they'll rethink their plans for the future?
I'm sticking with them for a bit, as I have a couple of vouchers to use still on my account, but will change to another provider who supports maintenance before I get to a BMI of 30.

What's the highest dose you've got up to? 10mg was the dose that floored me. A lot of people are fine until 10mg then they get the bad effects.

There are some that have gone from starting dose to the top and have coped fine with all doses.

I think diabetes do tend to lose slower than non diabetes. Not sure of the reason. Eventually the weight will go down, but might take a bit longer.

I'm not at a healthy BMI yet so could probably order with Zava for a few more months, but am seriously considering moving earlier now. Don't want to give them more of my money!

I also have vouchers so didn't really want to move yet.

Was thinking about this but I think Zava prescribe for boots, superdrug, Asda... Maybe some other places too. As well as their own direct customers. So they are probably drowning in orders / customers! So maybe they do want to get rid of them when they get to BMI 25 as they can't cope!

MathildaMattie · 16/09/2024 08:58

Like others I'm about to move from Zava to Oushk. I'm now only a few pounds from target, but having taken 6 months to lose the weight really don't want to gain it back and hope to use gradual reduction of my dose to help me learn how to maintain my weight.

MooFroo · 16/09/2024 08:58

Thanks so much @Jimmyneutronsforehead

if I’m honest I think I’ve been waiting for the injection to do the work for me and not made enough changes and effort consistently over the last 7 weeks. Started off well but have definitely not had the food suppression that others have had, so may well still be eating too much or the wrong food.

I am terrible with tracking and although i am definitely eating a lot less than before I’m not consistently tracking so need to take it more seriously

Definitely not bunged up - If anything I’ve had spates of diorrhea so always regular! Have chia seeds and flaxseeds too but will
also up my fibre

so this week I need to take it more seriously and focus on on

  • drinking more water
  • tracking food and nutrients MFP properly and consistently
  • More protein and fibre

@ObsidianTree thank you! Blood sugars are stable so that’s a good enough benefit and as long as the weight loss continues, that has to be good 😊

Thank you both!

Pinkyp22 · 16/09/2024 09:19

@Lastchancefatty
I had almost no side effects, a little bit of constipation, untill I got to 7.5 then I felt extremely odd
Gone to 6.25 this week back to no side effects even the constipation has gone.
I am also losing very slow - 19lbs in 10 weeks

That’s not slow! It’s nearly 2lbs a week. I’ve been actively aiming to lose between 1-2lbs a week.

FarriersGirl · 16/09/2024 09:22

I have recentl.y moved from Zava to Oushk at a BMI of 26 so I can use their maintenance plan. Very smooth process for approval and delivery.

You're very welcome.

Also I just realised I have outed myself as a slow lover and not a slow loser 🤐

That'll show me up for not proof reading before I submit my post.

@Jimmyneutronsforehead Your typo made me chuckle! Which is much needed on a grumpy Monday morning.

I too am a slow loser (typically). I've had 9 injections and have lost 22lbs. I'm very happy with that number and hope to see an 18 on the scales next week, but I fully expect that rate to slow down over the coming months. I am guilty of a little comparison envy when I see some people have losses equating to a stone a month but I have to remember that I'm racing against myself and not others.

SecondFavouriteDinosaur · 16/09/2024 09:54

I’ve lost 32lbs in 16 weeks, so an average of 2lbs a week. I’m more than happy with that and don’t consider myself a slow loser! To be honest I’m just happy to see the scales consistently going down. That certainly wouldn’t be happening without MJ.

EricCatman · 16/09/2024 09:55

I keep thinking I’ve had no side effects whatsoever but yesterday it dawned on me that I’m suddenly always freezing. I had a hot bath then joined the family on patio for lunch. It was hot and sunny but I was under 2 blankets and wearing a jumper. I wonder if this coldness is a side effect?

It’s a well documented side effect. I get it for the first 24 hours after injecting.

Pinkbendyman · 16/09/2024 10:38

@FarriersGirl have you chosen one of their maintenance plans yet or did you ‘just’ buy a pen from Oushk?

Well done on your progress!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 16/09/2024 10:48

For all of those thinking of switching to Oushk for maintenance, have a look at the Family Chemist too. They are cheaper and have released a blog outlining their approach to maintenance which is pretty similar.

Not trying to do Oushk out of any business as I do think they are a standout pharmacy but merely offering options 😁
