Hi all,

Thought I would start a thread for those that started quite early on and would like a space to chat with others that started around the same time. Like the threads that are dedicated to those starting in May, June, July etc thought it would be nice to have a space for people have have been on for similar amount of time.

Nice little chat with a newbie on reddit this morning. Three weeks in and she realised she hadn't been injecting anything as she'd been twisting to 1, then twisting back down to 0, rather than pushing the plunger down 😂. Bless her, she was very good humoured about it. Good to be reminded of those early days when all this injecting was so weird and complicated, and a bit scary.

Lol I saw that earlier! Ah newbies always giving me a few laughs 😂

Now that my weight is no longer on my mind 85% of the time, I have found a new distraction! Booking and planning holidays! I need to stop 😂 I think I have about the next 10 years holiday destinations planned out!

It's nice to not worry about my weight anymore! Also noticed on a recent flight that it's nice and roomy in the seat now.

My next obsession will probably be planning outfits for these holidays! Haven't got the shopping bug yet! Waiting until I get to like 11st before I start shopping for the new wardrobe!

At least she hadn't wasted any meds, just 3 weeks of her life! Don't know if she'd lost any weight 😂

Lol yeah I'd be disappointed if I had been on it for 3 weeks but hadn't actually been on it for 3 weeks 😂

I’ve just my mind is blown.

like, HOW did she not understand the mechanics of an injection pen?!

ObsidianTree · 11/09/2024 20:12

Guess they thought she was injecting by twisting the pen back down to 0!

But also how amazing if she had psychosomatic effects and lost weight by sticking to 1200 cals a day or whatever? She's saved herself 3 weeks worth of Mounjaro!

😂 I won’t tell you what I did to my ex’s kidney bean sized wart.

the newbie… can we find out whether she lost weight? My moneys on yes.

Exitstrategist · 11/09/2024 23:03

Not seen this mentioned before so I’m going to dive in. Eating disorder as a teenager and has now flared up again due to mountjaro. I realise I have not been using it as a tool to enable better habits but rather as a complete suppressant to more or less stop eating much and drop to ridiculously low calories. I have euphoria as a result with every kilo lost. I am now within 3kgs of target and seriously starting to worry I wont be able to stop

That's really tough, but good you've recognised it. Are you able to redirect the funds for Mounjaro towards a therapist? I do think these drugs are dangerous for people with a history of ED and it should really be a contraindication, or at least only used under close supervision.

RagzRebooted · 12/09/2024 07:39

Hi everyone, I've been AWOL due to moving (relocating our family 300 miles!) and I dropped my dose down over 3 weeks to avoid side effects (and allow myself to eat the many takeaways!) but I'm all settled in, back on track, back on 7.5mg and losing again.
I've lost 3 and half stone/22kg.

KrankyKumquat · 12/09/2024 09:13

@Exitstrategist
Thank you for this. I'm sure you're not the only person here who's struggling with similar feelings and I can certainly recognise aspects in my own journey.
I think most women who've ever dieted will have experienced periods when they severely limited calories, become obsessed about weighing and felt euphoria when they've lost some weight or crushing disappointment when they haven't. MJ unfortunately makes it very easy to stop eating altogether and inevitably, we can become a bit obsessive about all things weight. Social media, even MN, can amplify this - where else would we compare our weight loss with others like we do here?
I'm not an expert on eating disorders so the best I can advise is that you think about accessing some psychological help - this might be a good time before you spiral further, and while you have some spare cash from no longer needing to buy MJ. Hopefully you will be able to talk through strategies to help you healthily maintain your weight loss and build on your success to date. Good luck x

KeepingUndercover · 12/09/2024 09:26

@Exitstrategist sorry you're experiencing this. I'm going to echo the suggestions that you look into getting some help. It sounds like you need it.

Thanks I don't want to know (well, maybe a little bit) 😅

Wonkypictureframe · 12/09/2024 12:56

@Exitstrategist I think that would be extremely easy to tip into and there have been times when I have wondered whether I actually NEED to eat given the suppression. I echo the suggestion of looking at professional help though, before things escalate.

@RagzRebooted a history of eating disorders definitely is contraindicated. It’s one of the prescribing assessment questions, or at least it should be. I guess the issue could be that someone could feel it was long enough ago in the past not to be relevant, without understanding in advance just how easy MJ makes it to limit food.

NCfor24 · 12/09/2024 13:10

I'm sure it asks about eating disorders when I order my pen.

@Exitstrategist I will admit to forgetting to eat very occasionally, or just not eating because there is nothing I fancy.
However I think recognising a perceived benefit of this being the ability to easily restrict calories and possibly attain further weight loss is where it becomes an issue.

The good thing is you're conscious of the risk of disordered eating. As you are at a healthy weight, I agree with others that switching to using MJ funds for therapy could be a way to address it. Another thought might be to become focused on healthy eating in a far more beneficial way - learn about macros. Devise meal plans that hit protein and fibre goals and kind of get obsessed with the health and nutrition benefits of being able to choose what you eat.
If you don't get exercise-obsessed maybe eat to support goals of building lean muscle mass and changing composition. I think it's recognising what food can do for you as opposed to what not eating can do for you if that makes any sense at all.

Exitstrategist · 12/09/2024 16:34

Thanks everyone. I didn’t feel I had a “history” of ED as it was 30 years ago so I felt I had left all that behind me. I haven’t felt the urge to do that since (clearly as I put on so much weight). But I admit the buzz I am getting is similar to then and this is what is worrying. Looks like I will have to go off MJ

Well done for recognising this.

I have been toying for weeks with the fact that some days, in fact for several days in a row, my eating is disordered. Then I check myself and eat properly. Then I slide back. Disordered eating is very, very easy on MJ.

Scalessayeek · 13/09/2024 07:50

@Exitstrategist It's definitely a slippery slope. Making sure we are aware of our eating habits and talking about it will help, I'm sorry if it means your journey is ending but it sounds like it may be for the best :(

Scalessayeek · 13/09/2024 07:53

Has anyone used a warm pen yet? I've had to use my new 12.5mg pen rather than my 10mg pen due to expiry dates and it arrived a little warm. It feels like it's nowhere near doing what it should and is taking a tonne of willpower to not eat all the snacks 🤦🏻‍♀️ (should say I'm taking 43 clicks which is around 8mg as I was on 7.5 with the previous pen). I'm finding I'm having to dose every 5 days instead of the usual 7 too

ObsidianTree · 13/09/2024 08:12

@Scalessayeek I never quite felt like 12.5mg worked well. I am up to 15mg now.

The 12.5mg I got was during a warm period and the ice was nearly melted when I got it. I feel like the 15mg I got was also during a warm period.

My latest pen I got recently when it's been a bit colder and the ice was still icy, so will see if the next 15mg pen is better.

Good thing we are heading into winter! For our pens sake at least!

Maybe you need a bit more than 8mg? Try for 10mg clicks worth?

ObsidianTree · 13/09/2024 08:22

I have also felt my eating can be a bit disordered. When my dose is strongest I don't feel hungry and it makes me lazy. Some days I won't feel like cooking for myself and just graze rather than cook myself a healthy meal.

I have said before I need to get better organised, meal plan etc but don't do it!

I have even got laxed with drinking protein shakes and collagen drinks. I bought some clear whey protein and hate it! It's too sweet. I will go make myself a shake in a bit as I needs to get better at this! My hair has started to get thinner too so need to sort myself out.

OP posts:
Choux · 13/09/2024 08:24

@Scalessayeek is it not that the dose is too small rather than the drug losing potency?

I have messed around with doses a fair bit - going on holiday so taking a smaller dose, seeing friends on day 2 so split the weekly dose into two injections etc - but every new pen (so 5 weeks with the bonus dose) I always went up the full 2.5mg to the next dose. I needed it as my body seems to get used to it quickly. Do you have a particular reason for going 7,5mg to 8mg instead of 10?
