It's in the fridge and I'm going to take the plunge on Monday!
Feeling really nervous about it all. Anyone due to start next week too?

I've just used my fitness pal and guessestimated quantities etc. 880 cals today

TheSproutOfWrath · 17/07/2024 19:11

Day 4.
Omg, the heartburn just now. Luckily I have Polo's and Rennies. Either brocoli or a cheese and leek fish cake was the culprit.
I'll eat when it's in front of me but I'm not craving food which is the weirdest thing.

I've not had heartburn yet! Scared to drink fizzy incase it causes it!

Aitchtee · 17/07/2024 20:21

When do the side effects generally start I wonder?

SJLO · 17/07/2024 20:23

I feel quite tired this evening I could sleep now. Have felt like snacking but haven't gave in. Trying to keep busy and keep the fluids up.

Wishthiswasntmypost · 17/07/2024 20:35

I wish I hadn't counted calories because I started thinking it wasn't enough and had a protein bar which I wouldnt have without. Evening snacking hit again...

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 17/07/2024 20:35

Years of yo-yo diets in my 29s. I know calories counts pretty well now. Probably not a good thing !

SJLO · 17/07/2024 21:23

I feel bored and want to eat for the sake of it but resisting temptation! Feel like it's very long days on this MJ hoping it's not always like this...

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 17/07/2024 21:30

I know what you mean. I feel I could still eat a fat burger if it was in front of me tbh but I am pretty full now on small meals and not getting those sugar crashes that meant I was starving shaky and going for the quick fixes if I tried to cut back.

Normally on 1200 calories I'd be starving and thinking about food all day.

ToriMJ · 17/07/2024 22:03

I've felt ok today, just a very mild indigestion feeling agsin. Have eaten dinner earlier today as eating later yesterday had me sat up til midnight belching Envy
'Dinner' was four pieces of sushi and a snack pack of carrot sticks and hummous from tesco. Feel full. Just been to sainsburys and bought a big bottle of gaviscon!

Does anyone know the ins and outs of how MJ works? I know it contains hormones that make you feel fuller for longer, so that helps if hunger is the problem. But I am just thinking about all the other stuff around overeating and wondering if it helps with that.

Like:

  • eating because bored
  • eating out of habit eg always have tea and biscuits at 11am / crisps watching telly in the evening
  • eating for comfort when stressed / angry / anxious / upset etc
  • eating as a reward or treat or to break up the day
  • eating the wrong stuff
  • eating the wrong amount
  • continuing to eat even though you're very full, for whatever reason

Has anyone experienced improvement in their approach to eating that's not just about hunger?

Also - is there anything going on biochemically or metabolically to do with food being broken down / processed / used differently? So if I ate the same food on and off MJ, would I lose more weight with the drug? Or is its mechanism just about helping to reduce your intake by controlling hunger?

(Sorry for all the questions but would be interested in people's experiences. I am on day 3 and have definitely had a reduction in hunger but I don't think the psychological aspects have changed - yet, anyway. I have always struggled with stopping when full and with eating for reasons other than hunger and wondering whether MJ will help.)

Following as this is me

ToriMJ · 17/07/2024 22:38

I've done 3 full days now and I just don't think food is as interesting as it was. I've had about 800cals a day and feel like I've eaten enough. I've done the fast 800 before and felt like torture so it's def something Mj.

When do the side effects generally start I wonder?

Mine started yesterday at Day 4 with heartburn and hipups. Oh, have had slight constipation but nothing major.

Wishthiswasntmypost · 18/07/2024 07:57

My side effects are minimal so far. Late evening I'm aware my stomach isn't emptying but by morning it's resolved. Again ...drinking lots. Early days. I'm day 4 today and have lost 1.9kg (must stop weighing)

Yesterday I recognised a pattern I've had with diet/healthy choices before: initial enthusiasm...followed by life getting in the way, scuppering planned meals and short of time to make good choices.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesn · 18/07/2024 08:55

I'm landing on around 1000 calories a day, but today I've gone for high protein, low fat snacks and lunch.

My scales tell me I've lost 2lbs so far..

SJLO · 18/07/2024 09:16

Day 4 really struggled to wake up feel sluggish could be lack of carbs. Going to have porridge and coffee this morning see how that goes down! Off this week so it's made things easier in terms of not having to be at work and out the door at a certain time. I've learned over the past few days how focussed I am on food I already new I was an emotional eater but I also use it to put off other tasks total procrastination and feel I have more time on my hands now my days aren't filled with thinking about food! Anyway hope everyone gets on well today I'm going to weigh tomorrow to try and motivate myself...

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 18/07/2024 09:54

First night of side effect last night day 3

Heartburn and insomnia

Took a gaviscon and it's gone but was unable to get to sleep till 2 and then woke a few times.

I gave in and weighed and I've lost 1.9 kilos!!!!

Prob a lot of water weight but I'm happy.

Going for a swim in a bit to try wake myself up.

woulducouldushouldu · 18/07/2024 10:11

First injection last night. Slept ok and went to gym this am. V dry mouth though.

I feel bloated and like I've gorged myself with food. Know I will need to eat something today but hopefully will last until later.

Does this full feeling disappear during the day or will it stay with me?

ToriMJ · 18/07/2024 10:22

I'd recommend a little flask of peppermint tea which seems to be helping me

So onto day 4 - I am definitely hungry at meal times and happy to eat but also feel…satisfied - it’s a really new sensation, I am super greedy and could (did) eat for Britain. And the urge to snack and keep eating is definitely dampened.

I am eating between 1000- 1500 calories a day (am very tall) and usually my stomach would be rumbling and I’d feel quite tired and shaky but I feel fine. I am very very thirsty- I drink lots of water anyway but this is another level. I have also broken out the herbal teas which I’m really enjoying. In fact I am really enjoying all my food, everything tastes great and I am sleeping so deeply, after months of really awful sleep I have done 3 solid 8 hours. Apart from feeling tired I’ve had no side effects whatsoever (yet…)

I’ve decided to only weight myself on Mondays but my bra strap feels less tight today (random but good!)
