Just trying to figure out whether to inject morning or evening. Ideally might sleep through the worst of the side effects 😂

Do most of you inject in the morning, or in the evening? Do you think it makes a difference to side effects?

(All assuming my pen arrives safely tomorrow, and cool given it seems to have been sitting in a mail centre since Saturday!)

I've always injected in the evening, around 7ish. I've never had any negative side effects but no idea if I'm sleeping through them or just not getting them at all. I just wake up the next morning and the appetite suppression and lack of food noise have kicked in.

I usually inject sometime on Saturday afternoon. I don't get any major side effects, but Monday tends to be the worst day of the week for the ones I do get. Today I can't face food, stomach a little upset, have a acidy feeling in back of mouth, slightly lacking in energy. By Tuesday it is usually gone for me.

Everyone seems to react differently to the meds, so it is probably going to be a bit of trial and error.

LastTimeLosingIt · 26/08/2024 13:44

Weigh in day for me, End of week 3 (3 x 2.5mg).

SW 26 June: 20st 12.5lbs BMI 41.9 (low carbing, no MJ)

SW on MJ: 19st 12.5lbs BMI 39.9
CW: 19st 2.5lbs BMI 38.5
Losses: 4, 4.5, 1.5
Total MJ loss: 10lbs, 3%

Plus an additional 14 lbs before MJ

Total loss of low carb + MJ: 1st 9.5lbs. One dress size dropped and feeling significantly less pain in my knees.

happygertie · 27/08/2024 13:38

Hi everyone.

I'm on day 5 of week one!

So far, very slight if any suppression, but I have had some bloating / feeling uncomfortable and my portions have been smaller. I have been concentrating on protein and hydration and felt positive that as I move up the doses I should start to feel some suppression. However, I have just seen a picture of myself on social media that has sent me spiralling. I have a huge amount to lose and it all of a sudden feels impossible.

I know I am massive but seeing it on someone else's photo has left me floored at how bad I look. I thought I looked big but put together, that's clearly not the case.

My stats are:
SW: 23st 3lbs
CW - weigh in day is Thursday
GW - first goal is 18st which feels impossible and even when I get to that I still have so much more to go!

Anyone else like this and turned it around?

gimmemounjaro · 27/08/2024 14:08

@happygertie

When that feeling comes to me (and it does) I try to think that I have two options - do nothing, carry on the way I am and definitely stay as big or get bigger, or do something. Time is going to pass whichever option you choose, and in a year's time do you want to be in the same position only kicking yourself because you didn't take this chance, or do you want things to be different?

Don't think about the end goal in terms of weight and how much you've got to lose, your goal is a daily one and it's to eat healthily and treat your body well, giving it all the things it needs - nutritionally rich food in sensible portions, plenty of water, good sleep and a bit of exercise.

You can definitely do it, one day at a time.

And don't worry if 2.5mg doesn't do much, it's not really supposed to - I lost 4lbs in the first four weeks and then 6lbs in my first week on 5mg. So don't give up too early, just play it cool, treat your body well and be curious about what happens to the numbers. They are not the be all and end all.

BingoWingsOverScotland · 27/08/2024 14:21

Hello @happygertie ! Congratulations on taking the first step.

I'm only about 10 days in, and I'm finding the appetite suppression is a wee bit variable - so yesterday I had breakfast around 10, then I was out and active all day and kind of forgot to have lunch (I can't believe I just typed that sentence...), so had tea at around 7.30. Today, breakfast around 9, but hungry around 1pm, so have just had something to eat. I'm sure it's partly because I'm at home, only about 5 steps from the kitchen.

SilenceInside · 27/08/2024 14:29

@happygertie Hi! Just wanted to give you my support as I know what you are feeling and really can empathise with you. I started off at 21st 12lbs, and I felt so awful when I had to do the photos for the Mounjaro prescription process. I knew I was big, various things had become physically very difficult, so I did know. But I avoided photos and mirrors and just tried not to ever see myself.

I am always daunted by how much I have to lose, so I set myself interim goals that are small and fairly quick to achieve. My first goal was to lose 10% of my body weight which I achieved last week after 6 weeks on Mounjaro. For you, 10% off your starting weight would be about 20st 13lbs - how about that as an interim goal? I also started to weight myself in kilograms rather than stones/pounds, as I don't have an emotional connection to those numbers and so don't really find it as triggering when I weigh myself.

I reckon I will be going through this process until at least next summer to get to a healthy weight, so 12 months plus depending on my rate of losses. It's a long haul thing, for sure.

FlopFlaps · 27/08/2024 16:34

If anyone uses Zavamed, how long does it take to be approved and get delivery? I ordered over the weekend, so assume it wouldn't be picked up until today. Just keen to start now as I've made the commitment to myself.

It's felt quite empowering this time because I really feel confident I will lose the weight this time.

Twinstudy · 27/08/2024 18:01

I'm feeling a bit down today to be honest. Just finished week 8 and I'm down 1.5 stone, from 18st 13lb to 17st 5. I know it's a lot but it just feels like it's really stalled over the past couple of weeks. Today's jab was 1mg wegovy so will see how this week goes I suppose.

I've been on my period for almost 2 weeks now which probably isn't helping either tbh (weight loss or mind set 😀). I have an implant so don't usually have periods but whenever I lose weight I seem to have issues, must be hormones I guess.

It's frustrating, I have around 1200 calories a day so I should be losing weight!

happygertie · 27/08/2024 18:25

@gimmemounjaro @BingoWingsOverScotland @SilenceInside

Thanks for the pep talk / advice, you all talk a lot of sense. I'm on my period so prob just feeling a bit meh which hasn't helped.

I also think I'm just desperate to find out if I have lost anything in my first week, I just need a sign this is working. I don't want to weigh myself until end of the 7 days so will just hold out a bit longer.

gimmemounjaro · 27/08/2024 20:00

Anyone taken antibiotics while on MJ?

FlappingMadly · 27/08/2024 21:15

All of you stalling or not losing what you expect to - are you remembering to measure yourself? You might be pleasantly surprised.

dontstopmenow · 27/08/2024 21:33

I wonder if anyone has experience of this : I have always been a huge emotional eater. A lot of my emotions are tied up in family dynamics (aren’t they always)?! I have a family get together coming up at the end of September and I am just cringing at family making comment on my weight loss. I would just much rather go unnoticed! For context, most of the family are the sort of people who won’t say anything about my weight to me in person but will send round memes/jokes about people who are overweight. I therefore know how disdainful they are of others, so by extension of me.
I know that when I have dieted previously, it has only taken a comment from my dad about how much weight I have lost to send me straight to McDonald’s!
I am trying to rationalise with myself that their opinion doesn’t matter and that I am doing this for my health and to enjoy life with my little family but I am finding it hard!
i am very proud of myself as to how well I am doing, as of today I have lost 10kg since the start of July which is unprecedented!

FlappingMadly · 27/08/2024 21:59

@dontstopmenow be proud. 10kg is incredible! Family presses all our buttons. Between now and end September exercise hard - you’ll feel good. Walk in strong and have a healthy meal waiting for you when you return, Most will not mention and if your dad does say it took hard work to lose what you did and you would appreciate support.

Good point, and I’d also add measuring your body fat percentage if your scales have this function. I’ve found it heartening in stall weeks to see that my body fat percentage is nevertheless reduced.

I inject morning then side effects kick in by pm. My ongoing side effects are feeling cold and tired so it works for me. When I started I injected Fridays so side effects were over weekend but I now do Thursday am when wfh and means weekends I have a bit more energy. I am not experiencing any gastric issues now so feel less tied to home. On 10mg now.

SilverSprings510 · 28/08/2024 06:17

First official weigh in done -7lbs. Delighted with that! Second week, here we go :)

PonyPatter44 · 28/08/2024 07:23

Well done all the losers!! 😁😁😁 Measuring as well as weighing is a really good idea, especially if you're doing lots of walking or other exercise. Your muscles will be getting bigger and heavier, so you might not lose as much weight as you hope for, but you'll be toning up.

I was 91.1kg this morning... just 0.2kg short of the "big number" being 90, which is my first goal. Hoping for a mini-success by tomorrow morning.

On the subject of families, my mum never misses an opportunity to get in a dig about being fat. If I eat anything in front of her, she starts making comments about how I'll get so fat, I'll never be thin, ooh you don't want a malteser think how fat it'll make you, etc etc etc. The stupid thing is, she isn't exactly slim herself, and I've been fat since I was 10. She made me fat! These days I write it off to her dementia talking, but I know it isn't, because she's been like it all my life. She over-fed me while making jibes about being fat. Unpick that!

Wowsers! I’m sad for little PonyPatter.

We are a big family and always had feasts. Every drama played out round the table. I’m one of 4 girls and my mum would point out her slim legs and how all sisters apart from me took after her.

Great loss!

BingoWingsOverScotland · 28/08/2024 11:02

@dontstopmenow can you think of the MJ as your magical shield against your family's digs and jibes? After all, you are doing the best thing you could possibly do for your health, your future and yourself, and MJ is helping you to do that.

I have zero patience for people, and especially medical people, who say oh it's all very simple, eat less and move more. Yes, on one level that's true, but it treats us all like sets of Meccano with no history, emotions or responses.

I did once really lose patience with my GP and say "well if it's that easy how come I look around me and there are so many people struggling, or simply being overcome? Why is there such a poor long-term success rate? What is the medical profession doing to e.g. stand up to the incredibly influential and rich UPF industry? Do you think that, as an educated, middle aged woman, I haven't tried? Do you think I don't understand what I need to do? Do you think I'm doing this on purpose?" She didn't really have an answer.

omega4ever · 28/08/2024 11:06

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping ... interested about body fat analysis on scales...as the scales I use have this but it doesnt seem to change much week on week.

What scales do you use please and do you think they are accurate and how often do you check on body fat? Do yours measure muscle as well etc?

Sorry for so many questions..😉

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 28/08/2024 12:21

@omega4ever I have Withings scales. They automatically measure my body fat and water percentage every time I step on them - it might be possible to turn it off but I have never tried. They don't measure muscle mass or visceral fat but I believe you can get ones which do. I am not sure how accurate the actual figure is but as I only ever use these scales if they are inaccurate then at least they are consistently inaccurate!

OP posts:
FlappingMadly · 28/08/2024 12:27

I have Terraillon scales. They measure it all and link to your phone.
