Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

@susiedaisy1912 sorry to hear that, how horrible. Sounds like the hospital were really good about it though, which is reassuring. I think your plan of a break and then slowly starting again is sensible, but do talk to wherever you got it as they are supposed to give support.

GingerLemonTea · 15/06/2024 09:46

2 months in today and have lost 20 pounds.
Dropped into the 13 stone bracket today and dropped into an overweight BMI instead of obese.

Im also 2 stone down from my highest ever weight. Feeling good.
About to go up to 5mg for next pen.

Time4changeagain · 15/06/2024 09:48

@susiedaisy1912
Thank you for posting your experience as horrible as it was. I hope you are feeling better soon. I’ve been trying to decide if I need to move up to the 5mg pen as I have good appetite suppression on the 2.5. Reading your post has made me decide to stay on 2.5 for now and only titrate up if/when I need to. My losses have slowed down but I will be happy with a steady loss and no other symptoms

sweetpickle2 · 15/06/2024 10:15

Had a sneaky mid week weigh and I’ve lost another kg or so-

SW 107.8kg
CW 98kg
GW 90kg

Sorry to read your horrible experience @susiedaisy1912- wild how it affects people so differently. Glad there’s no lasting damage and hope you feel better soon

crochetmylifeaway · 15/06/2024 10:21

My order hasn't moved with Royal Mail since Thursday so it's delayed or lost. I'm on the phone with zava requesting a refund. If we estimate it ran out of cooling by Friday night by the time it could arrive on Monday that will take me below the 28 days needed to safely use the full pen.

They are contacting Royal Mail and opening an investigation to see if they know where it is. They hope to know by the end of today and will contact me in relation to a refund.

susiedaisy1912 · 15/06/2024 10:24

Thanks everyone. This thread is really helpful, it's all good keeping MJ a secret from all your friends and family until you're not well on it and then you have no one to talk to about it.

DreamingofGinoclock · 15/06/2024 10:30

I'm so confused day 6 of first dose and suppression only seems to be growing soon I know it's supposed to peak at day 3/4 and then slowly start to wear off but I feel like it's at its strongest today so far (struggling to finish my normal yog and fruit breakfast)

BlackFriYay · 15/06/2024 10:34

Checking in!

Well done for all the losses 👏

Stallers - hang in there.

SW on 19th March - 13 stone 8lbs
CW today - 10 stone 10 lbs
GW - 9 stone 3lbs

Starting BMI - 34.4 (I think?)
BMI now - 27.8

I'm just a few lbs away from a 3 stone loss 😊

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 15/06/2024 10:36

@susiedaisy1912 that sounds so scary, I'm glad you are feeling better. I'm a bit nervous about increasing my dose now. I have a 5mg in the fridge waiting.

I drank a few glasses of wine for the first time last night. I feel like total garbage this morning so won't be doing it again. I'm normally a heavy drinker but the urge has completely disappeared since starting MJ. Urgh.

BlackFriYay · 15/06/2024 10:46

One of the perscribers has made a massive fuck up, I've just seen this on one of the Facebook pages. They sent the poor bloke a 10mg pen instead of a 2.5mg one to start with.

Continuing Mounjaro...part 13
NCfor24 · 15/06/2024 10:47

@susiedaisy1912 sounds like you're making the right decision going forwards, just increment up a tiny bit at a time.

I've not had any side effects really, just fatigue and feeling cold day after jab on 2.5mg & 5mg, but I don't even really have that now on 7.5mg. My weight loss has been pretty slow and steady, I'm definitely no super responder but I'll keep chipping away at it. Ideally it would go quicker for my finances but I'm saving a small fortune on meals out, takeaways and alcohol so it might be cost neutral pretty much.

Anyway, finally hit 2st loss today after 3 months/14 injections. 7.5mg hasn't been super effective for me but I have a 2nd pen so I'm going to switch to 5 days between jabs before moving onto my 10mg pen.

Keep going everyone, can't believe how many are on these threads now! A small MJ army!

Oh that's shocking! Gosh that person could have ended up in hospital if they had taken a full dose!

NiceUnusualDifferent · 15/06/2024 11:14

Weigh day for me and 3.2lbs pounds lost in wk1. Still had really good suppression the whole week. Move my jab to last night as want jab day to be Fridays.

Hoped for more in my first week as I seem to have reacted well to it buy also was premenstrual and have come on 2 days early.

SW 14st 10.4lbs
CW 14st 7.2lbs
GW 10st 7lbs

camerontucker · 15/06/2024 11:29

Period question please. I'm normally very regular. Got my period as normal and then a fortnight later I started bleeding again and it's just not stopping. I know it can alter cycles etc but I'm not liking this. I do however like the 3lb a week I'm currently losing...

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/06/2024 11:53

@camerontucker losing weight rapidly can trigger the release of enough oestrogen from your fat cells to disrupt your usual menstrual cycle. Having said that, if it carries on too long I would see your GP to rule out anything else.

Kimwannabeme · 15/06/2024 11:54

Tried unsuccessfully to retrieve my extra dose on last dose. Does anyone have any idea on how I can get this out?

Plus, when I reach my target, how do I maintain it instead of continuing to lose?

Describe what you did. It’s very easy to get the dose out with a 1ml sterile syringe and then do a sub cut injection with a new needle. I suggest reading the early threads - we describe techniques in detail.

re: maintenance. There is no protocol. Yet!! Everyone will have to create what works for them.

I saw this too. I hope they give him that pen for free now after that! It's the least they can do.

ApplesonTuesdays · 15/06/2024 12:25

All going well for me. I've decided to stay on 5mg for the time being as I still have such a strong appetite suppression.

SW 13st 5lb (5th April)
Week 1 - 13st 0.6lbs (-4.4)
Week 2 - 12st 10.2lbs
Week 3 - 12st 8.4lbs
Week 4 - 12st 6lbs
Week 5 - 12st 4.8lbs
Week 6 - 12st 1.2lbs
Week 7 - 11st 10.6lbs
Week 8 - 11st 7.8lbs
Week 9 - 11st 7.2lbs
Week 10 - 11st 5.2lbs

Two stone loss in 10 weeks. My goal weight is 9st 6lbs and I'm feeling really positive that I'll get there. I have great appetite suppression, the only other symptom I'm having is fatigue. I'm really tired all the time!

WannabeHealthier · 15/06/2024 12:26

Well done to all the losers! I’m in quite a lengthy stall period, but that’s cool. I’m thinking it’s my body consolidating the losses. I’m also not doing much exercise due to this horrible wet weather! My house is too small and busy with little ones to exercise indoors.

Week 15 done. About to take my 16th dose

Total loss is 35lbs - now weigh 14 stone 2lbs

Tusktusk · 15/06/2024 12:35

ThirdStorm · 14/06/2024 16:12

@tusktusk I’ve got to decide quite soon if my next pen (3) will be 2.5 or 5. A week ago I was certain it needed to be 5 but this week, whilst on holiday I’ve felt 2.5 has been fine.

@ThirdStorm I’ll be interested to hear what you decide and how it goes whether you stay on 2.5 or change to 5.

Tusktusk · 15/06/2024 12:58

Side effects - does anyone else find they are producing a lot more saliva than usual?

aliciagardner · 15/06/2024 13:02

.

Upinthenightagain · 15/06/2024 13:06

What are people eating in a day? I haven’t eaten yet today. Just tried to eat a protein bar but only managed one bite. Suppression hasn’t been this strong since week one on 2.5mg. Currently on second week of 5mg

Tusktusk · 15/06/2024 12:58

Yes, me.
