Continuing Mounjaro...part 13

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

Thanks @ObsidianTree, you're right, I was doing too well, had a funny feeling it was coming!

Vamozz · 19/06/2024 14:29

imnottoofussed · 19/06/2024 12:31

I get 45 clicks as being 3.75 from a 5mg pen

Just saw someone say it's 40 clicks which is wrong

Oops! You're right sorry!

Nicmox · 19/06/2024 14:32

Thanks I forgot about 5he expiry. I already have 4 weeks of 2.5mg. Just planning ahead. Hope you fell better.

GrimDamnFanjo · 19/06/2024 14:35

Nicmox · 19/06/2024 14:04

Okay I don’t want to sound dumb here. I just started and am in my first week. All good so far apart from bloating and constipation. Am I right in thinking if I want to stay on 2.5mg doses each week, I can order 5mg dose pen count clicks and gets 8 weeks of 2.5mg from it.

Not recommended due to the 30 day expiry date.
Why would you want to stay on the starter dose? It's low to get your body used to the drug?

ThirdStorm · 19/06/2024 14:44

Ghilliedu · 19/06/2024 13:45

Ordered my next pen from medex yesterday and stuck with 5 because I’m still struggling to titrate up. So 3rd 5mg pen (but have one unopened in the fridge already) and today they have emailed me a list of questions around side effects and how much protein I’m eating before they will prescribe. Has anyone else had this from them?

No but I plan to order later today so I'll let you know.

guestusername · 19/06/2024 14:45

I stayed on 2.5 for 10 doses as it was working for me

ThirdStorm · 19/06/2024 14:47

I'm on my second pen, stayed on 2.5 and I plan to stay on 2.5 for my next pen. Its been working for me so see no reason to change.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 19/06/2024 14:47

@Ghilliedu let me know how you get on as, whilst I have a 7.5 pen in the fridge, I was planning on ordering another 5 from MedEx to use as I am not going to be ready for 7.5 for a while if ever.

DreamingofGinoclock · 19/06/2024 15:32

Ordered from med express second pen at about this time yesterday...and status is still awaiting prescription, we aren't in on Saturday for delivery so I'm hoping it will be approved! Didn't think it would take this long second time around ahhhh

That's unusual from them, check your email just in case they had a question for you.

I have also been checking email as well but nothing there either 😭

Perhaps try sending them an urgent email on [email protected] with your order number explaining the issue.

Ghilliedu · 19/06/2024 16:13

@thehousewiththesagegreensofa @ThirdStorm

so I replied to all their questions and had to tell a couple of white lies as I’m counting clicks and not taking the full 5mg just yet
I’m doing 3 every 5 days and one of the questions was about how regularly im administering a dose. I wonder if they’re onto me!

they have now replied and approved my order but sent me this -
Vomiting more than three times a day or violent vomiting accompanied by additional symptoms like abdominal pain may indicate that Mounjaro or Wegovy aren't suitable for you, so please monitor your symptoms.

Im now slightly panicking as my vomiting was violent and definitely more than 3 times a day. I really don’t want to give up on MJ and I’m hopeful I can titrate up slowly but maybe they are right and it’s just not for me

Nicmox · 19/06/2024 16:59

Just thinking if 2.5mg works for me I would stay on it.

Priority1234 · 19/06/2024 17:04

I was a loyal medexpress user for months and just switched to e surgery for a repeat 10mg - one follow up about my GP practice and no requests for pictures etc.

Was marked as processed within 2 hours of ordering. Hopefully will ship tomorrow? £145 for 10mg with code RETURN15.

MeAndMounjaro · 19/06/2024 17:18

A moan...

I am nearly two stone down. I have gotten rid of my old size 18 tops and am now buying 14/16s from vinted as the 18s were swamping me. I can feel and see the difference in me.

I've had ONE compliment and that was from someone who knows I am doing injections so may have been taking a guess that I'd lost weight.

Another friend said "you must be able to feel the benefit now" but never said she could see a difference.

And today when talking to another friend I haven't seen for a whilr about a side effect she said "oh did you start the injections?" WTAF

I know deep down we see people as either over weight or slim and only notice the extreme changes but jeez you'd think someone would have been wowed by now 😂

I'm really open about what I'm doing so very few people would be worried to say something.

I'm telling myself this is not about the compliments but I'd expected 2 stone would be the start of people noticing as it's going from 15st something to 13st something so should be noticeable.

Still. On we go!!

LoveSandbanks · 19/06/2024 17:20

I took my first dose of 5mg on Monday night, yesterday was fine but today I’ve hardly been able to manage anything!

half my breakfast and then I forced down a bounce bar.

MeAndMounjaro · 19/06/2024 17:21

Also, what fresh hell is this that I noticed today taking a photograph. 😱

To be clear - this is a neck and not a male appendage!!!

I've ordered Prai throat cream IMMEDIATELY.

But I still did get ID'd at the weekend buying alcohol in the supermarket so that's something. I'm almost 39!

Soukmyfalafel · 19/06/2024 17:29

@MeAndMounjaro I have lost two stone. My clothes don't feel a great deal different and I've just had to buy new underwear, but can still wear everything else, although jeans are looser. No compliments apart from my OH really. I feel better for it though and running yesterday felt a lot easier than when I was heavier. I'm in my early 40s so I don't think there is going to be an amazing transformation. That bikini body ship has truly sailed now. I wish I took more pictures of myself in the beginning, but I was quite disgusted with myself. It would have been good to compare.

ThirdStorm · 19/06/2024 17:34

@MeAndMounjaro A colleague started to awkwardly complement me today, so I helped him by telling him I’d lost nearly 2 stone,

that I am very happy as it was very necessary. These days people feel they must be so pc so I think he was worried about either offending me or sexually harassing me!

I also have some neck scrunch/crease going on, I use sanctuary hyaluronic face and neck creme. I’ve just put loads on!!!!

ThirdStorm · 19/06/2024 17:38

@Ghilliedu I’ve just ordered. I may well get an email as I’ve ordered my 4th 2.5mg. I keep checking for emails now!

ObsidianTree · 19/06/2024 17:39

I have the neck creases also!

If anyone knows of any cream that helps, let me know!

@MeAndMounjaro I've had one person comment on my weight loss. Nobody else has said a word. I've lost about 2.5 stone and I've gone from dress size 22/24 to 18/20. Nobody has even done one of those "noticing but not noticing" polite things like telling me I look well.

Ah yes the neck creases, I have got those now I've lost two stones, I'm also mid fifties so it's the beginning of the ole turkey neck for me I fear. 😩

There was a thread elsewhere on mn recently, and a lot of people were under the impression that being told 'you look well' is actually an insult and means you are fat or have put on weight 😂

I found it baffling, but it was a long thread with lots of agreement!
