Continuing Mounjaro...part 13

ObsidianTree · 14/06/2024 11:31

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

I’ve seen suggestions on Reddit that people are loosing weight on the same number of calories that they’ve previously not lost weight on. Is this possible? It was my understanding that Mounjaro works by decreasing what you want to eat and therefore your calorie intake.

It does happen. Before Mounjaro I could eat 1200 -1500 kcals a day and not lose a lb.

Now I can stick to 1200kcals- 1500kcals a day and lose each week.

MJ helps with insulin resistance and makes you burn fat/sugar instead of store it.

MJ also works by making your less hungry and full quicker.

I have just been approved with Zava. Sent photo of my ID, and two photos: one of the scales and the other a full body shot.

The pens arrive tomorrow and I am very anxious about the injecting. I will watch and re-watch the videos before doing it. The reassurance on here is helping.

SW: 13st 4 Wish me luck!!

Hey everyone, just thought I'd touch base… due to start 7.5mg tomorrow, feeling a bit nervous as I’ve read on here about the side effects being much worse 😬 have lost 20lbs to date to I’m happy with that. Slow but steady.

I have a diabetic review tomorrow so I’m going to ask if it’s possible to get Mounjaro on prescription. I’m type 2, based in Northern Ireland so I hope so. Anybody any tips on that? Bit nervous, I’m in a very small town and sometimes I think we are a bit more backwards / judgy

Lastchancefatty · 18/06/2024 19:24

So it's week 1 day 5
I've really pushed the last few days to hit my protein goals and I've not thought about shit food at all. I'm full but not so full I can't eat my dinner. I've never had an off switch. But tonight I did think to myself "half of this would have been OK" so that's a first! Honestly if it only takes the noise away that will be great but I hope to have other positive side effects as I progress. I already feel happier so that's also great. Just wanted to share that 😊

FastGoose · 18/06/2024 19:34

Hi
Does anyone here know how frequently you can order from zava? I know that med express allowed you to reorder 2 weeks after the issue of the last prescription and was hoping zava would be the same as Im coming up for 2 weeks since last prescription and I have the money now - something I absolutely cannot guarantee having in a week's time cos I'm terrible for shopping 😂

I feel like they don't stop you from ordering. I ordered a week after my first order as I wanted to see if the 15% coupon worked! It went through no problem.

@ObsidianTree brilliant thank you I'll get that done tonight/tomorrow then. I think I get more of a buzz from ordering and receiving MJ than anything else these days! 😂

Lol it's an addiction!

I have another 15% off to use and itching to use it but do not need anymore pens! Lol

I could leave it 4 months and I'd have enough to last!

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 18/06/2024 19:56

I'm itching to order another one too. I've only done three doses and already have my next pen in the fridge 😂

Has anyone had any issues with their injection sites?

I got the 5th dose out of my 5mg on Sunday and today where I injected is raised and itchy. It's quite red but that's because I have scratched it before realising.

I'm hoping it's not due to it being the so called extra dose.

Yes I have it's quite a common side effect.

easterbuns1 · 18/06/2024 20:10

I'm another one whose DP doesn't know I'm using the pens so I can't have extra in the fridge 😬

LittleTed54 · 18/06/2024 20:22

Hi. I just used a Zava code someone kindly posted on here and wanted to return the favour (and hopefully save more 😁). REF8Z39P. Thankyou

Mycuprunnethempty · 18/06/2024 20:55

Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Started at 2.5mg, no side effects at all good or bad, lost 3lbs, probably from watching what I was eating moreso than the drug. Moved to 5mg, vomitiming diarahea for at least one day every week and nausea the rest of the time until week 4, when I delayed injection for 3 days as was on holidays, finally no massive side effects, just a small bit of nausea, lost about 8lbs that month. Stayed on 5mg for the next week out of a 7.5mg pen, but no effect on food noise and no great appetite suppression so moved up to 7.5mg last week. Again no massive appetite suppression just a small amount and craving junk food, the only thing stopping me eating all round me is hoping it eventually kicks in and so far I've put on a lb. I'm calorie counting to between 1200 and 1400 a day and have upped my protein and water intake and it;s just not shifting. Do I go up to 10mg for the next one. Worried that moving up so quickly I'll have nowhere to go. It's not like I'm only trying to lose a few lb's, I've got 8 stone to lose. Feeling really demoralised and wondering if I'm missing something or am I just one of those people it doesn't work for? Anyone else experienced the same and got some positive story to tell?

How much do you have to loose op?

8 stone so lots to lose but would be happy with 6 or 7 stone, BMI currently just under 40

What is your diet like? What do you eat? How is your fluid intake? What is your protein intake like?

ObsidianTree · 18/06/2024 21:12

@Mycuprunnethempty some people feel they need to get up to 10mg + to feel more effects.

You've still only taken 1 dose of 7.5mg, the next dose of 7.5mg will increase the amount built up in your system, so hopefully next dose will do the trick. If not, go up to 10mg if 7.5mg is not working for you.

I've had my first pen from Voy. Does anyone who's used them know if the pens just auto order rather than me manually ordering?

In my account it says I'm on a 4 weekly subscription but doesn't say what strength the next pen will be. I'm not ready to move up to 5mg due to holidays and a wedding - I want to stay on 2.5mg for the next pen.
