Continuing Mounjaro...part 13

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

So today marks the day that I'm officially 21lb down since starting MJ a little under 7 weeks ago and I thought I would celebrate that by digging out my old jeans that I bought whilst a little bigger than I am now for a mini NSV dopamine boost.
Well I have indeed been humbled as I squeezed myself into said jeans that feel as if I've lost no weight at all - the muffin top is real ladies! Id go as far to say that I look like sausage links 😂😂
I'm blaming the fact they've quite clearly shrunk in the wardrobe due to not being worn 😉
Happy Monday everyone!

KeepingUndercover · 17/06/2024 15:13

@FastGoose if it's any consolation, it took ages until my weight loss resulted in smaller clothing. I've lost 18kg now and I'm finally out of my old clothes. Massive slog.

sweetpickle2 · 17/06/2024 15:24

I have been absolutely ravenous today- and it occurred to me that I literally haven't been ravenous for three months!

I am at the end of my 5mg pen (going to take my bonus dose tomorrow) and I did debate weaning off and going it alone, but honestly I am not sure if I'm ready- I still have 9kg to go and I am worried I will just put everything back on if I come off too soon.

The money and nausea is killing me though!!

coffeandteav · 17/06/2024 15:44

That thread just shows why we shouldn't judge anyone. We just don't know people's story and the path they have been on.

crochetmylifeaway · 17/06/2024 15:44

I managed to get my 5th dose from my 5mg pen yesterday. Luckily.

My order from zava decided to move up to Scotland overnight and was out for delivery today. I rang them to ask what I should do and was told as it was sent on Wednesday and the ice packs are only suitable for up to 48 hours I should refuse delivery and then call to get a new one sent out.

I'm now on my 3rd attempt to get through to someone to arrange a new pen.

First call went to a call centre not based in the uk team and he said he would get someone to call me back. 2nd call rang and rang then I was hung up on and now I've been on hold 8 minutes and still waiting.

Never using them again.

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 17/06/2024 15:48

@crochetmylifeaway how utterly frustrating! I hope you can get something soon.

FarriersGirl · 17/06/2024 15:48

Hi All I have been following this incredibly useful thread for a few weeks and have been on the MJ journey since early May. I have become very interested in the issue of food noise and its impact on obesity more generally, as I come from a family with a lot weight related issues that go back several generations. Even the recent research on MJ and other new drugs is fairly vague on the topic. I have come across a scientific paper on the topic that I will post a link for if you are interested. It certainly helps to explain why some of us have greater food noise or "food related intrusive thoughts", as the scientists put it. There is some scientific jargon but worth a read if you are interested. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10674813/

What Is Food Noise? A Conceptual Model of Food Cue Reactivity

As GLP-1 receptor agonists, like semaglutide, emerge as effective treatments for weight management, anecdotal reports from patients and clinicians alike point to a reduction in what has been colloquially termed “food noise”, as patients ...

I'm 2 stone down and still in the same jeans. I tried a tighter pair recently with the same result as you! But at least I can sit down comfortably in my current jeans now.
I think I'd actually stretched my big ones so they weren't really an 18 at all, more like a 20 and I was kidding myself.

CiderJabs · 17/06/2024 15:58

@BellaCriesAndThatsAlright any cancer comment makes my blood boil as I've had cancer myself. But I don't go round telling people and asking for sympathy. And nor do I think that my cancer was more important than anyone else's health.

Ghilliedu · 17/06/2024 15:58

I’m still in the same jeans too after losing 21lbs. They do fit better and the waist is much more loose. However, I just feel better in myself. I can feel the weight loss.

that said, I was at an event yesterday and someone put a picture on social media and I saw myself in the background and that was humbling. I still have a long way to go!

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 17/06/2024 15:59

Sorry to hear that @CiderJabs. I hope you are ok now.

guestusername · 17/06/2024 16:01

I took another two bags of size 18 stuff to the charity shop earlier. I thought I’d got rid of it all but when I opened my suitcase to start packing for my holiday there was a load of stuff in there 😳 the only thing I have now of that size is a smart coat that I refuse to get rid if so I’m just gonna cut the label out 😂

LoveSandbanks · 17/06/2024 16:01

I’m due to take my first dose at 5mg today but scared the side effects are going to be terrible. Anyone got any words of comfort?

MJqueen · 17/06/2024 16:02

@FastGoose @RagzRebooted

I'm 20kg down and can just about squeeze into 18s from a starting point of a large 22, almost 24 if I'm being honest. I find that 10kg, which is 22lb is about one dress size for me.

I've also gone through old clothes and started to see what fits now, and put a whole bunch aside to throw away - wondering why I kept them in the first place! My body shape has changed, too. I feel like I've lost a lot more in my top half compared to belly/bum/thighs.

We should set up a swap shop as a group, maybe some Vinted listings where everything is £1 and then share our profiles on here.

ObsidianTree · 17/06/2024 16:05

Hope you're recovered @CiderJabs

I’m due to order a new pen and I messaged MedEx this morning about the price, laying it on thick about being a loyal customer. I just got the same standard reply about looking out for discounts in my inbox and how they are not price matching.

She said they have added a £5 credit to my account which is better than nothing I guess. I’ll stick with them for now and then look at switching next time. I still haven’t managed to get above 3mg without being violently ill so I’ll stick with a 5mg pen I think

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 17/06/2024 16:09

Grief. Just hopped on the scales to take a picture for ZAVA and I’m about 4lb heavier than I was first thing! I knew weight fluctuates throughout the day but blimey that’s a lot.

BlackFriYay · 17/06/2024 16:13

What's this nasty thread some of you ladies are talking about? I'd like to take a look!

ObsidianTree · 17/06/2024 16:13

My cupboard is brimming with clothes. I haven't gone through anything yet. I had a wardrobe of clothes after doing keto a few years ago and got down to about 1/2 stone lower than I am now. So have clothes to wear for my current weight. I think I'm about a size 18 now. Just about. From size 20/22. When size 20 got tight I started living in leggings.

I want to lose a few more stone before I start getting rid of clothes. I feel like things still fit me. Done feel my lose had been enough for clothes to stary falling off me yet. Hope so soon!

It's on AIBU. Shouldn't be hard to find. Title is something like "annoyed at diabetic drugs being taken by weight loss people" or something like that.

I can't wait to shrink out of my clothes. I've been sausaging myself into the same worn out crap for years, I must look awful. I'm going on holiday in 6 weeks and would absolutely love to buy something smaller to take. I'm 12lbs down and it isn't showing yet.

CiderJabs · 17/06/2024 16:16

I've just read all the comments and had to sit on my hands not to snap at that skinny bitch.

Thanks @ObsidianTree and @BellaCriesAndThatsAlright I don't talk about it much but yes I'm currently in remission. The fear of the beast returning never leaves you though and that's the hardest part 😢

Yep I know. Sometimes it's best to ignore. But that's not always doable. Cancer is a very sensitive subject and when other people throw it in conversation without having a fucking clue what it really is, then they will get a reaction. I reckon that's why they do it.
Sorry about your mum 💔

Yes that thread is awful. But we've been here before!

I think the BMI 21 bitch is scared there will be nothing special about her when more and more fat people get down to her BMI too!
