Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

I don’t know. I just went into my account to reorder a new pen

You are the chosen one 😂

How did you manage 30% off? Med Express seem to have forgotten about me, I’ve had no reminder to buy my new pen from them even though I’ve just done my 4th dose of 5mg. I’ve switched to ZAVA for the discount code anyway so don’t really care, but I was surprised not to get a “time to reorder” email like I did last month.

I’ve never had a reminder email from MedExpress. Think I’ll stick with them as I only have a small amount left to lose.

Chucklesisters · 17/06/2024 08:25

The anti-flab jab “my diabetes is the only disease the pharma industry should cater to and obese folks should just change their lifestyle” posters are back at it again :/

To be fair, the OP of that post is showing her absolute ignorance for free (“I can’t remember which injection it was”/ “my mate is on something that I don’t know what it is and my mum is about to die because of that greedy cow”)

Summerslimm · 17/06/2024 08:33

Anyone found a protein shake that’s gluten free and not full of artificial sweeteners? I was looking at a pea protein but I can’t stomach the artificial sweeteners.

Yes. Started a debate with no clue what they are on about!

Someone on there was horrible. They have been deleted now. Shows the level of thick simple minded people there are!

All Purition shakes are gluten free and made from real food. No nasties at all (I can't tolerate them either). They're a very fine chop as opposed to a powder, some people don't like this, but if you blend with ice makes it just like a smoothie.

They also have a plain, unflavoured protein powder you can add to yoghurts etc to boost the protein content.

You can also paté yourself £5 by using this link when you place an order over £24. Please note this also gives me £5 off my next order as well. This is the only discount Purition provide.

Guide to gluten-free protein powder

A small meal when you don't have time to cook. Healthy protein shakes and meal replacements using only the very best clean and natural ingredients.

Obviously I meant save, not paté! 😏

Anyone who has been on holiday recently did you notify your insurance or the medication? Just wondering if it affects the price of the insurance.

Also my gp just text me to say they had a letter from MedExpress and I should inform them about a medical condition I have. So doesn't look like my gp is going to inform medexpress thankfully as I had deliberately not told medexpress

Bodgerandblagger · 17/06/2024 09:06

Morning everyone. I had my first injection on Saturday, but haven't really had any effects. I'm feeling a bit disappointed, despite knowing this can be normal and 2.5 isn't a therapeutic dose. It's just reading about other people's amazing responses in week one! I haven't had any side effects either - if I didn't have a bruise on my thigh, I'd wonder if I'd actually taken it at all!

Fromthesidelines · 17/06/2024 09:14

@Bodgerandblagger
I'm the same. Just taken my fourth 2.5 and effects - good and bad - have been minimal. Just wanted to confirm that it is quite normal.
I've overhauled my diet and exercise since starting but ATM using will power alone. Weight loss this week a grand total of 1.2 lbs.
Hoping to get more than 2.5 out of the bonus dose and move to 5. Keep reminding ourselves that we will get there!

BlackFriYay · 17/06/2024 09:31

Shit. I've got a problem.

I have two 7.5mg brand new pens in my fridge, the one that has been there the longest (4 weeks or so) was sitting at the very back of the fridge.

I've just taken it out to have a look and the box has got a big slab of ice on it and the box is soaked through.

I'm worried that the medicine may have frozen but I can't tell by looking at the pen?!

That's almost £200 of medicine. I'm absolutely gutted. How on earth will I know if its OK to use? ☹️

What if it has frozen?!

InspectorGidget · 17/06/2024 09:37

I didn't have much progress on 2.5 either.
BMI was 41 so I've a decent amount to lose too.
I lost 8lb altogether on 2.5 which I was disappointed with as I've lost that in a week before on SW and I've been getting back to intermittent fasting which I've done really well with before.

I've just done my 2nd 5mg and have lost 5lbs in the past 2 weeks so I'm at 13lbs now and feeling that something has changed behind the scenes.

I'm seeing this very much as a marathon and not a sprint as I'll be on this now for as long as it takes but it is disheartening when you see some of the losses.

Good luck to everyone!

Sabblue · 17/06/2024 09:39

SylviaStrong · 14/06/2024 19:05

I just don’t want letters from multiple suppliers as I plan to stockpile a bit when I can get offers. I am not sure if GPs even read the letters though !

I ordered from 3 different suppliers so far (boots, medexpress, zava) and all send letters to my GP - I can see it in my NHS app so I think they defo send the letters to everyone

MelissaLouRocks · 17/06/2024 09:46

@BlackFriYay I think you may just have got away with that. I believe the only issue freezing has is it can have an effect on efficacy, but safe to use. Unsafe if solution is cloudy or has bits floating in it.

Does it look frozen now? If it's not, it may just have frozen the box. I had this happen plenty of times with things in my old fridge, but products inside were actually OK.

Phew. Thank you!

I 'checked' the liquid is fluid by withdrawing some into a syringe and putting it back in, and it's definitely liquid (complete with bubbles).

I also compared it to the other pen and it looked exactly the same, no cloudiness or bits in as far as I could see l.

In my panic I did a Google search and came across a reddit thread from an OP who accidentally froze their pen, they said Eli Lilly replaced it for them! Apparently you have to let your perscriber know, then contact Eli Lily who give you a code so it's technically free. Sounds very helpful if true, but I'm relieved I probably don't have the faff to deal with 😐

I don't know if the code thing actually just works in the US.

How long was it between you taking out of the fridge and withdrawing into the syringe?

Apologies for being dense. The info regarding mounjaro and other injections is that you can lose up to 10 or 15% of your bodyweight. I've got lots to lose. I need ideally to lose closer to 40% of my bodyweight to be in the top of the ideal range for my height. Will I be able to do it all on Mounjaro?

I have lost 22% since march and still losing.

montysma1 · 17/06/2024 10:17

ObsidianTree · 17/06/2024 06:46

@TheOverweightFortySomething MedExpress have stopped giving codes.

A lot of us have moved to Zava as they offer 15% off referral codes. See a code above. Although, if you don't have loads to lose, they might reject you.

I think Curate might be cheap and willing to take people with BMI under 30, but I don't have any codes for them. @montysma1 is there any curate codes?

My 20% code was CURATE20. When I came to use it it had expired and they had a 15% code CURATE15.

I emailed them and after a bit of going and froing they reinstated the 20% code for me.
Don't know if they reinstated it across the board but it's worth trying both of them .
